About
You’re a moth on a brutal pilgrimage to meet god. Jump carefully: every chasm is a chance to fall right back to the beginning. When you see the spider, hide. It can hear your little footsteps.

The game is one big vertical level, which means you can fall right back to the beginning. We didn't make it to be cruel. We like that sweaty-palms feeling you get when you know the stakes are high. It’s a spicy feeling. We think you’ll like it too.

The spider roams the whole map. If it sees or hears you, it will chase you. If it catches you, you die. You cannot fight it, your only hope is to hide where it can’t get you.

Controls are simple to learn but deep and expressive once you get to know them. And especially once you get the double jump :)
One giant vertical level.
Every inch of "progress" is saved, forward and backward.
Condescending commentary from God.
2-7 hours of pain and suffering playtime. Only one person has beaten this game in under 1.5 hours. Most people take around 5.
Full control remapping.
Almost full controller support. The only reason it's not listed that way is the graphics menu doesn't work with a controller - everything else does!
Slo-Mo mode, useful for new players to the genre, or for experts to practice tricks.
Optional challenge modes:
"No jump preview" mode which basically turns the game into Double Jump King. "Darkness" mode, where you'll need to memorize the map to succeed. Built-in speedrun timer, if you're into that kind of thing.

This game is wonderful! The art is beautiful, the movement is delightful, and the atmosphere created by the music, sound, and narration is haunting. 11/10 would recommend <3
To The Flame is a wonderful Rage Platformer that had me on the edge of my seat. The longer I played & the higher I got, the more desperate it got me to want to reach the top. The presentation is awesome and the vibe is perfect for what it's going for. It's worth giving a shot for yourself and making the ascent to the top.
This game is great and well worth the price. I think it's an excellent intro game to Foddian-style/masocore games and has replay value via speedrunning. If you've played Jump King, your skills will carry over to this. It's not as punishing or difficult as JK, but still offers plenty of challenge the first playthrough. If you haven't finished JK, I'd guess an initial playthrough would take about 5-8 hours. If you have finished JK, you can probably beat this one in roughly 2 hours. The movement in this game is like a mix of JK's deep snow/Giant Boots + ice/Snake Ring, i.e. you can only jump and can't walk, and your character has a bit of slide on landing. The double-jump opens up a lot of movement potential, and it’s genuinely a blast using it in different ways. There's seemingly no delay between landing and you're jump count resetting, which lets you schmoove all over. Mixing double jump, slides, and short hops makes for overall movement that is very satisfying and snappy. The collision detection - in particular when you're just clearing a platform's corner into a slide - feels extremely fair and perfectly matches what my eyes are able to process in the moment. The developer added a speedrunner quick restart just prior to the Steam release, which is an excellent thing to have built-in rather than having to mod it in. I love the music in The Tower, and the visuals/atmosphere throughout are very well done. The leaves on the trees and shrubs have this beautiful effect where they look painted, and in my first playthrough I really enjoyed spending time soaking in the artwork. The spider's animations look great, and the heartbeat sound + zoom-in on the camera when the spider's near you are very nice touches. The spider is an interesting mechanic, and I imagine it'll be fun watching streamers interact with it. As a heads up if you have grinded JK: you may not find the spider super threatening after the first couple encounters with it. I don't see this as a negative, as I feel like the spider's inclusion is intended for a different audience than speedrunners. The developer mentioned they may be able to make the spider more aggressive for speedrunners if the game has a committed group of runners that would benefit from this type of update. I played this game on itch.io before getting it on Steam, so my playtime at the time of this Steam review doesn't reflect total playtime. My best run at the time of this writing is 3:05.44, but a 2:30/2:40ish time is well within reach!
A well-polished rage platformer that demands precision vaulting in tense circumstances. Loved the little mushroom puff effects in the low levels. Got to see them a lot as I fell down over and over. Good sound design and a great score round out a tight little experience. Thumbs up.
миленькая маленькая игра с интересным геймплеем, немножко баганая и сырая но тем не менее вполне окей nice little game with interesting gameplay, a little buggy and crude but nevertheless quite ok
ssssppppppppppppiiiiiidddeeerrrrrrr 🕷️
Short but sweet kaizo platformer with cool moth lore. ...I think this one is actually worth playing for the writing, as well as some fun platforming and excellent aesthetics. It is mercifully short, though, so short that the trailer shows most of the areas in the game. The double jump mechanic has good depth to it which makes me wish the game was longer. I still recommend it though, it's a refreshing twist on Jump King's rhythm-based platforming. You will struggle, you will fall, you will get screwed over by the placement of the spider... But as much as I hated him I think the spider is a really cool addition to a genre that is normally devoid of any monsters.
A great game! Immersive art and music come together to support some really rewarding mechanics in To The Flame. If you enjoy games with satisfying and consistent movement, definitely pick this one up as it is easily worth the $5 (don't let my Steam hours fool you, I've probably played nearly ten hours of this game on itch.io). The map design is challenging enough to be rewarding to conquer, but not so sadistic to make you question its existence. I'm happy to finally see this game get released!
Nice fun little game. If you like platforming with some sort of mastery in movement or just a challenge (or pain and suffering), i do recommend.
Difficult, rewarding, and spooky as hell. I love this game. Every platform has been precision-engineered to make you sweat. You will fall, and fall again, and fall for a third and fourth and fifth time ad infinitum trying to get to each new area. The double-hopping movement mechanics are unusual and hard to master, but over time, they become really fluid and satisfying. Once you get the hang of it, you can fly through parts of the map that you struggled with at first, and that feels good. But the challenge never goes away, and in fact really just increases into some insane leaps of faith farther up the map. The spider has made me literally throw myself off a cliff trying to get away from it so many times I can't count. The way it moves and lunges at you is unreal. Absolutely hate that thing. It's fantastic. For people who will never make it to the top (read: me), there are a ton of details and bits of lore scattered around like bread tabs that still absolutely make it worth playing and exploring. The atmosphere is beautifully crafted, from the chilling music to the weirdly menacing little moth-centric fables you find throughout the map. It's ominous, but it also has a sense of humor, and I enjoy that immensely. Thank you to the devs and their twisted minds. You've put evil into the world, and I hope you're enjoying watching us suffer :D (Note: I played this on itch first, probably 3-4 hours more)
