I was a big fan of the Super Off Road arcade game as a kid and I was hoping to relive that experience with ThunderWheels. I've been following the game for a few years while waiting for the game to come out of Early Access, but finally just decided to buy it on sale. Unfortunately, my friends and I played it four-player local for about 20 minutes and the first impressions weren't positive. The truck controls are just too finicky and we would easily get messed up beyond recovery. It was hard to tell who was winning or how far we progressed in the race. It wasn't competitive or fun. In addition, the interface is clunky to navigate for multiplayer. I wish each player could just join the game and make their own car choices at the same time. It isn't clear if there is any difference between vehicles. The music doesn't seem to fit the game and is too loud. You also can't seem to easily quit part way through a race. Perhaps we gave up too soon, but I decided to get a refund. I might consider purchasing ThunderWheels again with a better sale and/or with improvements. I'd like to see some vehicle upgrades like Super Off Road. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the game has been updated much in the last couple of years besides some minor bugs.
An all-around top notch 4-8 player couch multiplayer game.
It has other online and offline modes, but 4-8 player couch multiplayer is the only way I've played it, so this review won't cover or even consider elements like 1-8 player online tournament play or single player offline. Here's my take so far, starting from the best going to the worst. 😂 Physics are great and gameplay seems very fair. If your friend screws you by bumping you, you'll be cursing them and not the physics engine. Yelling, profanity, and laughter shall ensue. 😁 Supports 8 Xbox One controllers (Tested, confirmed through an official Xbox PC wireless USB adapter on Windows 10--just have them all on before game launch and restart the game if a controller powers off) 😀 Clearly inspired by and quite similar basic gameplay to the NES game Super Off Road. (Don't expect a clone, though) 😀 Normal price is a good deal, and sales are an even better deal. 😀 Many tracks available, and you can make your own with the track editor. 😀 There's no annoying "auto-reset" if you travel off the track. You always have to manually chose to reset your location if you get too far off course. 😀 The developers are very receptive to community suggestions, and have taken action on multiple requests/bugs that I've submitted. 🙂 Joystick button bindings aren't hard-coded. Steering is hard coded to the left analog stick and accelerate and brake are hard-coded to the right trigger and left trigger respectively. Accelerate and brake can be redundantly bound to buttons. 🙂 Several vehicles available. They do have their own characteristics but... 🤔 Vehicle driving characteristics, while unique, seem too similar to one another in my opinion. I'd prefer a little more variance. 😐 There's a way to disable music, which is nice if you're playing your own music in the background. However, this setting doesn't stop the post-tournament music from playing which is annoying. 😕 Would like to see more options added. Max nitro count; nitro count replenish condition options; alternative party modes, especially "reverse tag" aka "fox and the hounds" aka "Transporter". 😕 Initially setting up the bindings for all 8 controllers is slower than it should be. But they seem to have made it so that stores the settings and won't wipe them upon updates (as they they used to do) 😕 The default buttons for toggling camera and bringing up the pause menu for the primary controller must be changed via a cfg file edit. In the /config/soundconfig.cfg change it to: ig_toggle_camera_button = 7 ig_pause_menu_button = 6 ...if you'd like those buttons to be the two tiny center buttons (on an Xbox One controller) Highly recommended for couch multiplayer gaming with friends. Especially if you have more than 4 controllers and friends to join you.
I like it, challenging and fun little game.
Basically a modernized Super Offroad. If you liked that, you'll love this.

Such a fantastic little game! Pros: For the current stage it feels exceptionally polished and smooth, with a large variety of vehicles and tracks. Party mode works super well for couch play with friends, and the current online gives a challenge that reminds me of TrackMania (beat the other players ghost, get the best time!) I haven't tried the editor by myself but by the looks of it there is plenty of freedom to create anything passing through your mind; I can't wait to see the workshop to allow downloading community maps. Cons: It might be just me but playing on a keyboard feels quite hard (could hjust beat Bronze in the campaign). Some tracks also are somewhat confusing, the bright colors and lack of certain objects shadows really make it hard to realize where is the track (please make the checkpoints more noticeable!) Songs are super loud! Not really a con, I love the retro 8-bit style in the soundtracks and menus, but it could use some extra variety or better ingame sounds (I would prefer to hear the cars engines and bumps for example!)
Great Skidmarks-like game, plays just like I remember it on the Amiga.
I love the sliding, the bouncing, the soundtrack, and the retro look. Thunderwheels is obviously inspired by Ironman Ivan Stewart's Super Off Road game and while Super Off Road is one of my all time favorite games, it seems like Thunderwheels is a better version of the classic. The physics and the racing are fun and there's a good variety of vehicles and tracks. This game just makes me feel good when I'm playing it and I'm thankful it exists. One day I will complete 100% achievements.
El concepto mola, que tenga editor y Workshop le viene genial, pero cuando juega en isométrica y se sale el coche empieza a no gustar. En un solo jugador tiene opción de 3 y 1 persona le da un toque diferente y lo hace más facil.
