Absent of any exaggeration, The Pandora Directive (the sequel to Under A Killing Moon) is possibly the greatest adventure game of all time. No, it is not an Interactive Movie (albeit Access Software themselves describing the game as such). The Pandora Directive, instead, is a point and click adventure game with various narrative branches leading to their own unique ending options. It just so happens that this game features FMV. So, rather than being a game where the entire basis of the gameplay is responding to FMV choices, The Pandora Directive is a far more engrossing experience as 1990s point and click. Sadly, given the craze for the Interactive Movie genre during the mid 1990s, it is understandable why the Tex Murphy series was described as an Interactive Movie, albeit with great ignorance on both the part of the press AND developer. The story takes influence from Indiana Jones, The X-Files, and various detective noir pulps. In contrast to its predecessor, Under A Killing Moon, The Pandora Directive takes a more serious tone. Where Under A Killing Moon played out as a mystery-comedy, The Pandora Directive is not only written to be taken seriously, but the player also needs to play accordingly as their decisions throughout the game will have a direct impact upon Tex's character development, and the overall result. Each narrative path leads to unique FMV sequences, and events. Thus, The Pandora Directive offers the most replayability in the entire series. Although this mechanic had been seen prior in other adventure games, such as Indiana Jones & The Fate Of Atlantis, it wasn't common for a game to offer a multi-path narrative with the same level of emotion, dramatic tension, and consequences for the story as seen in The Pandora Directive. The actual gameplay itself, meanwhile, is identical to Under A KIlling Moon. That is, the entire game is experienced from a first person perspective, there are a host of gameplay experiences, such as puzzles, character interrogation, real time action sequences where the player needs to evade a hazard or threat, and deduction. The Pandora Directive uses the same engine as Under A Killing Moon and, overall, adopts the same visual style. Although, the production of the FMV is an upgrade. Performances, meanwhile, are mostly solid. There are some awkward acting moments with minor characters, but all of the principal cast deliver ensemble performances - most notably Kevin McCarthy and Tanya Roberts. Surprisingly, the game is perfectly compatible with Windows 10, although one sequence is prone to crashing, but this is only one small section of the game. The sound and visuals, while showing their age, are free of glitches. A classic title. 5 out of 5
Tex Murphy《
Great story, great game, very well put together. i like the talk about aliens and roswell crash i found this walk thru most helpful~thx adventure gamers https://adventuregamers.com/walkthrough/full/tex-murphy-the-pandora-directive-mission-street-the-good-path
Stupendo!
The game starts much in the same was as Under a Killing Moon, slowly investigating your case. But very soon, your inventory is filled to the brim with items, you have a dictionary worth of conversation topics and a lot of places to visit without knowing if you are done with whatever you're suppose to do. Then during day 7 (out of 10), the game decides to just ♥♥♥♥ the player over. There's a very strict time limit to explore a pretty huge place and do quite a few things in order to survive. It takes all the wind out of the sails and it's just not fun. The game never really recovers from this. And this is all on the “entertainment mode”. The true gamer mode has harder puzzles and more timed puzzles. There are 7 endings, which all depends on choices you start making early in the adventure. It's not a case of just replaying the last part of the game, you have to replay the entire game to see a different ending. But it's not like the rest of the game plays out much different. It's the same game you played through the other time(s). It's all too much, too ambitious and it cripples the game.
O jogo fez bastante sucesso nos anos 90 e para quem gosta de histórias de detetives, recomendo.
Great game, though the controls are absolutely terrible... unless you use the mouselook mod that enables modern WASD/mouselook controls. It makes the game immediately 1,000% more enjoyable and you'll spend less time getting the camera in place just to click on an object https://github.com/moralrecordings/tex3-mouselook
"No CD-ROM drive available, aborting the game. Hit any key to continue. _"
This game has terrible graphics so you can't find objects and is full of frustrating sections impossible to solve without the hints
Fun and nostolgic game. I originally got it back when first published long long ago.
