Thunder Striker unleashes a frenetic storm of dogfighting, laser blasts, and turbo-charged action all packed in a game boy body. Little cliché but great game to visit the past! Can you rule the skies? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NS-Rh_0iqo
Great game. Inspired by Solar Striker. I can see that it´s also inspired in GouBakuRan: Rumble Storm. Recommended.
Thunder Striker is a vertical scrolling shoot 'em up in the style of a Game Boy game. It's a simple, classic shmup that despite a few gripes and glitches is fun. The player's ship is equipped with a basic main forward attack. There are two weapon upgrade that can be applied to the ship at the same time via pick ups. The first adds a secondary attack of additional forward shot, homing missiles and spread shot. Each with their pros and cons depending on the enemy types the player encounters. The second modifies the primary shot or adds more bombs. Both weapon systems can be powered up with additional pick ups. The player also has limited use bombs at their disposal. These work like most shooters, fire the bomb and gain invincibility for a few seconds. I haven't played enough, but it also seems the bomb's effect is not the entire screen. They also seem to be meant for use as defensive weapons. I tried to spam bombs on the enemy, and it would allow it until the invincibility wore off or something. The game play is inspired by shooters of the late 80s/early 90s, but there are far more sprites without slow down or flickering than I believe an actual Game Boy could handle. But only just barely. Enemy patterns are simple, but still makes the game fun to play. The only enemies I'm not a fan of are the ones that come from behind. There's no shot capping, so even if your ship is flying over these enemies to hit them, that are still vulnerable. More than a few times I've tired dashing over these enemies to destroy them before they can fire. Only to be hit with projectiles as the enemy barely makes it on screen. I'm not sure if it is a bug or a feature, but the player does not lose any bombs they had in their inventory upon losing a ship. Speaking of glitches the game still seems to have a few. Mostly just with sound, but the game currently feels a little buggy. However, the bugginess doesn't really affect game play from what I have seen. Just lessens the experience. Thunder Striker is a good attempt at creating a modern black & white (well, green) handheld STG. I'd like to see the program cleaned up a little more or the price a little lower. However, it's a decent little game all the same.

Fantastic. Please make more! And thank you.
Thunder Striker is a fun pick up & play vertical shmup that does an excellent job capturing the simple charm of GameBoy gaming. The presentation is great, with the monochrome graphics used to great effect to create mechanical vehicles and structures typical of the genre. The tunes are also evocative of similar games, although I could not pin down whether they were inspired by a particular game. If you have a soft spot for GameBoy gaming, this will scratch that itch. The mechanics are very simple: No grazing or charge shots or polarities or proximity bonuses or anything like that. You can shoot (the default auto-fire is nice) and use bombs, and that's it. There are two primary weapons to choose from (occasionally dropped by enemies), and each can be powered up by repeatedly picking up the same weapon type (up to level 5). There are also three secondary weapon types, combining with your primary weapon to give you a decent amount of offensive firepower. The manual suggests you mix and match to find the best combinations for each stage and boss, but I generally stuck to the lazer for its damage output and the homing missiles for being the only way to attack enemies approaching from behind. As a nice touch, once your primary weapon is fully powered up you can wait for power-ups to turn into bomb pickups, allowing you to build up a generous stock of bombs which comes in very handy. I played through the game on Easy and Normal difficulties and it was not particularly challenging, but it did require me to keep on my toes and was still satisfying to play. In Hard mode, enemies fire a bullet at you upon their defeat, adding extra challenge. The game is not overly long, a trait I appreciate. Unfortunately, there are no achievements, which is a shame. You also can't rebind your buttons. Also, oddly, the credits refer to this game as Oumuamua (another game from this developer). Still, I heartily recommend this for retro gamers and fans of the GameBoy in particular.
Sometimes you really wish you could give a sideways thumb. The game isn't really bad, though not extremely interesting, and I really like the music. But what really kills it for me is sometimes the bomb flat out doesn't work, leading to deaths that i know shouldn't have happened and wouldn't have happened in any other shmup I play, and for this reason I can't really recommend it. I don't know if it's a me issue or what, but if it's not then that's just kind of a bummer.
I like the feel and soundtrack a bunch.
