Information / Review English
The Vagabond Emperor is an indie strategy game developed by WigglingEyeBrows. The game is still in the early access phase. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3W7yAo_g3o0
Gameplay / Story
You start the game as a simple vagabond who is still so unknown in the world and has not yet made its way into the history books. The story takes place in a fictional medieval world, which is haunted by a spreading curse and has already cost many their lives. At some point you can build your own cities and buildings in them, which produce raw materials for you that you can trade with other cities and their rulers. they try to conquer your city and need your warfare to defend them. Of course, you can also use your diplomatic skills and negotiate with them. Opponents will try to sneak into your community and cause you problems. The more relationships you have with other characters, the more opportunities you have to put things right again. There is also equipment for you to make yourself stronger, such as special upgrades for your armor or clothing itself. Many different types of weapons have made it into the game, which fit into the era. After every battle won should not be unrewarded, of course, and unique spoils of war await you. A highlight is that you can also start a family and what is special about it is that when your main trafficker dies, the parents' abilities are passed on to your children. You are free to decide what your next step is and where you will go to achieve your goals.
Pro
+ dark story in the Middle Ages + Long-term motivation + good game mechanics + matching graphic style and background music + helpful developer + many setting options + Price / performance ratio is right
Contra
- so far little scope
Conclusion
The Vagabond Emperor offers you a tactical strategy game where every action can decide whether to win or lose and which requires logical thinking in order to emerge victorious. It's already playing pretty well and I'm excited to see what will come next. PS: First of all, many thanks to the developer who made this key available to us for the group. Here you can find more good reviews from others and me at https://store.steampowered.com/curator/26335619-Adult-World-Gamers/ and if you liked the review, then we would be happy to give you a thumbs up.
Information / Review Deutsch
Fate forced me to play this game. The thing is, I don’t find Strategy & RTS games fun. It’s probably because I am stupid. Anyways, I was surprised when I played this game as it gave me an experience that was far from what I expected. I actually had a bit of fun while playing it. By the way, the game is still in Early Access which means that it will still get a lot of updates & changes as time passes by.
About This Game

Storyline
The game actually has a well-laid-out plotline. But the progression is completely in your hands.
As the name suggests, this game is about a vagabond. A reject of society who tries to make ends meet by either begging or through other questionable means. Although the vagabond’s wallet might be small, their ambition is big. Follow the journey of this vagabond as they fight their way up social ranks & finally become an Emperor!
Well, that’s the base story of the game. But it’s not entirely necessary to start the game as a vagabond. You have 5 more options to choose from. You can start the game as one of the following: [olist]
The Vagabond
The Rich Citizen
The Poor Chevalier
The Respected Baron
The King’s Forth Son (I think they meant Fourth son, this might’ve been a typo on their end)
The Enemy Of Kings [/olist] Depending on what you choose, your starting stats might vary. I recommend playing as The Vagabond for the original experience.
Gameplay Mechanics
As I’ve mentioned before, this is the first RPG Strategy game I played. I entered this game with zero knowledge of what to expect. Before I knew it, a ♥♥♥♥ tonne of content was thrown at me. It was so hard to comprehend at first. But then, the tutorial really helped me grasp the abundant information. As I said before, the game has a ♥♥♥♥ load of content. I will not cover everything that it offers since this is a review, not a wiki. So, let’s start with the creation of a new game. World creation has a lot of options that you can choose from. It reminded me of Minecraft. Here are the options you can choose:

You can first choose whether to skip the tutorial or not.
A scenario from the ones I listed in the storyline segment.
World Seed
World Height
Scale of Regions
Land Level
Map Width
Map Height
Kingdoms
Domains
Lords at Start
Lords Appear
Option to enable or disable “unlimited rank increase per character’s life”
Yes, that’s a lot of settings to choose from. I recommend not touching the ones you don’t know. I used the default settings during my playthrough. Apart from those settings, the game has another difficulty mode called “Iron Will” which will make it so that you can’t save the game while playing. If you want to save your progress, it’s only possible when you exit the game. This is an interesting addition since it adds a challenging factor to the game! The main gameplay is focused on you trying to rise up in social ranks to become an emperor. You can also start your own family by having intercourse with random women you find. This was quite odd due to the fact that there isn’t any really actual relationship-building involved. Well, I can’t expect that here since this isn’t a dating simulator. The result of the sex gifts you with children. For some reason, your children don’t last long. They die or something quick. I hope they improve the survival chances of your offspring. The funniest thing in this is that the game actually has STDs. Apart from family building & building relations with other leaders, you have to also indulge in combat. There are two ways to combat. One of them is manual combat where you have complete control over your character & you have to go & fight enemies with your “army”. The other mode is Turn-Based combat. I am sure you know what it is. I don’t like this mode since it feels slow-paced. The latter is more up my alley! Upgrading your social ranks gives you access to more items & perks like access to buy buildings, increasing inventory size, increasing equipment slots, increasing your max luck, etc. Here are the ranks in decreasing order of importance (which means I will be starting with the highest rank you can unlock): [olist]
King
Duke
Earl
Baron
Chevalier
Citizen
Farmer
Vagabond [/olist] Resource management & strategizing are two of the most important characteristics you, as a player, must possess. Resources are of the utmost importance as they help in progression. So, use them wisely.
Visuals & Audio
The game is purely 2d. The art style is simple. Since the game was developed & published by Wiggling Eyebrows, they used a lot of wiggling eyebrows for some reason. It was funny. During combat, they used circular icons for the characters & players. I feel it is a bit too unattractive. I hope they replace it with something that’s more visually pleasing. The soundtracks are okay. I have nothing to point out in specific. They do their job is all I can say.
Pros

A lot of content. More than you expect!
2 different ways to approach combat; manual or turn-based.
There is a high sense of progression due to the presence of the social ranks.
A lot of customization when you start a new game.
There is an “Iron Will” mode which adds a bit more challenge to the overall game.
It’s not necessary for you to start as a nobody/vagabond. There are a lot of scenarios that you can choose from. This adds a lot of variety to the playstyle.

Cons

Turn based combat feels slow.
People will pass away randomly. For some reason, your children don’t have a long life.
Vendors/Merchants sell trash products forcing you to secure the stuff you want in other ways.

Conclusion
This wasn’t too bad for my first time experience in a Strategy game. It was quite intriguing although I didn’t get the thrills that the FPS or Racer games give. Will I play it again? Maybe..maybe not, who knows? But yeah, I do recommend giving this game as it seems promising due to the presence of a lot of content. Is the price good? It is worth the price! Rating: 7/10

Developer passed away so the game probably wont get finished.
For other game reviews, please follow us at What The Game?
Do you know what it feels like to be beaten, broken and struggle just to later look back at the hard road that lead you to glory? Well that is the name of the game in The Vagabond Emperor. You begin as a lowly nobody and have to really use your wits to scrap for gold and experience. As time goes on you can build yourself up to afford armor, weapons and even companions to help as you make your way out into the world. Once you feel like maybe you're good because of your defenses and band of companions, you get to venture out and see how cruel the world can be as you dive into ruins and camps where you'll encounter all sorts of foes waiting to pummel and blast you and your team into bloody pulp. Although, at the this time The Vagabond Emperor is still in early access, which only means improvements will be made, this game already has a pretty bright future ahead of it. There is some real promise with this title if the developer, WigglingEyebrows, continues on the track they are on. I will most certainly be keeping my eyes on this game to see how it progresses through Early Access into a full release. Go out adventurers! Build your kingdoms, make your families, and construct your worlds. Rise to fame and be the king or queen you've always wanted to be.
EA Strategy/sim/RPG + customization + interesting mechanics = Start off as a vagabond in hopes to become an emperor. Explore areas, recruit mercenaries, do quests, build, fight, loot and more. i do like this game however there are a few issues over all the graphics are meh the english is horrible and there are some bugs that get fairly annoying and yet i still recommend the game. keeping in mind i have yet to start playing as any of my children. Pros: -start from nothing and build -family tree where they are leaders moving around the map -combat easy to learn -Random sex with strangers to provide children to your family... -i like that they added STDs to the game that made me laugh. -Can pay for sex. -the stats and boosts you can get are actually kinda neat hope they add more. -if your player is downed in combat its not game over but you do take limb damage which can get costly to repair or eventually you can lose limbs. Cons: -in random event fights the leader of the group is in the first row of tiles and not an actual unit, if a unit from the tile behind him advances onto his tile they are now unkillable and you have lost the fight. -people will die randomly often. dont expect your kids to live long. have lots as to prevent your line from dying off. -the map is small so sadly it will lose its draw quickly -the merchants in town dont often sell good gear or even common gear so you have to dugneon dive to get stuff to boost bless or build a building to produce it. -the AI in arcade mode is fairly simplistic and easy to fight with long range weapons. personally i like turn based fights myself as i can wipe the enemy army before they even get to go. - you can only upgrade your rank once per life time. i upgraded to farmer my first life im guessing you could go farther than one stage as some people in my game are already at kings so im thinking of restarting. -some of the leaders simply do not like you. they will still hate f**k you but they do not like you... strange...

Steam Curator ==> ExoFury Gaming <== Follow

Think of it like this.. You combine Mount & Blade with Crusader Kings, with a bit of Heroes of Might and Magic and a bit of The Guild and you get this great game. The Vagabond Emperor tells the story of one rising through the social ranks to become, well.. an emperor. And yes, you do that from way below starting as a vagabond sleeping in the streets and begging for a living or… doing other.. debatable activities… The game comes with a tutorial which you can skip if you like and has several scenarios available where you don’t have to necessarily start as a vagabond. Also, as any other sandbox game you have a lot of customization options for your game start. One notable feature is the Iron Will mode which lets you save the game only on exit. I used that for my first play, which you can watch here, and have to admit I found it a bit frustrating as I did not fully understand the game very well yet. But now I would totally be ok with using that mode. It’s mostly the fact that you start with nothing, any wrong move you do at the start of the game can have huge consequences and hold you back. As you advance and get some money flowing along with a decent number of mercenaries to protect your ass then things get easier and you will discover wrong moves are just a way to learn and no major damage has been done. So first I upgraded my rank from a filthy vagabond to a respected working class farmer. Funny thing is… you never do any farming as a farmer. But you get to buy your first building, or conquer it, and so you own your first profitable business. Next, since you are not a nobody anymore, time to get married. Which is pretty easy in this game and at the time I wrote this review, it's even easier for your new wife to divorce you. I played as a male but I do presume playing with a female will bring almost the same experience. So, I got my first wife, lost my virginity.. YEY! And not long after, I had my wife come to my doorstep with my first child… and my second.. and my third. Yep! All three at the same time; she had triplets and… then she dumped me. You can see this whole experience in this video I have over here: https://youtu.be/Kvtt9aJcedE Game started to feel quite real to me when my second and third wife dumped me not long after I married them but unlike my real life, I managed to increase my wealth, my power, my inventory, my troops and I decided it's time to move on. When I played the game, you could only rank up once per lifetime so you needed one of your children to take over in order to get rank. But now you have the option to enable ranking up several times during your lifetime. As I said, since I did not have this option during my last gameplay.. I decided its time to kill myself so I can grow in rank with my successor. Funny thing… The game made it almost impossible for me to do that. Got myself so damn old, still alive and kicking. Got myself quite a bunch of deadly diseases, still alive and kicking. Got my health bar empty.. Someone decided to save me from death. Got half my wealth while at it but it kept me alive. You can see my whole experience with this in a video I have over here: https://youtu.be/s2RKGgF8doE So what I’m trying to say is that this game comes with many and various experiences. It has many stories to tell and no playthrough should be the same. So.. kudos for the high replayability here. The Vagabond Emperor has a lot of funny references, has an absolutely great soundtrack featuring some nice medieval and tavern music, for which I also have a video right here by the way, and can offer you hours of entertaining gameplay. The developer is constantly improving the game and you can clearly see that it puts much work into it so, despite the fact that the game is in Early Access and might feel that it lacks features or has a few bugs here and there, I think it has great potential and by the time developer is done with it, it will be a great game. And.. to wrap things up.. I will say that The Vagabond Emperor gets a 7/10 from me and I really recommend you try this game. My rating would have been higher and I might return and reconsider it but keep in mind that this is an Early Access review and we might soon see those features that would make for a rating of 8, maybe even 9, because.. Yes! It does have that potential. Hope you enjoyed my review and found it helpful!

The video version of this review: https://youtu.be/2M25TdaQvoc
