Review: The Strange City - A Mysterious Adventure Worth Your Time The Strange City brings a lot of mystery and tension to the table, and while there are some things that could be improved, it’s still a solid experience for horror fans. You play as Agent G, a lone survivor in a strange world filled with monsters and eerie environments. The atmosphere is definitely unsettling, and there are moments that remind me of games like Little Nightmares—but it’s definitely its own thing, which is what makes it interesting. The game does a great job when it comes to action. Once you get past some of the slower travel segments and explore the eerie world, you’re in for some exciting moments. However, there’s a lot of empty space between key areas, which can make the journey feel a little dragged out. A few more jump scares could’ve kept the tension up, but when the action kicks in, it’s engaging. One thing I do wish could be better is the cutscene system. If you die, you’re forced to watch the same cutscenes over again, which can be a bit repetitive. It would be great if there was an option to skip them after dying, just to make the experience smoother. That said, The Strange City really shines with its unique world and creepy vibe. If you’re into atmospheric horror with a twist, it’s definitely worth checking out. It's got its flaws, but for what it offers, it's a fun ride! Not to mention it's an indie project!
I think this game can be improved: 1. Instead of just running and jumping, you could add more actions like climbing up ledges or hanging by holding the grab button. 2. Changing the BGM when the enemy is chasing to make the game feel more intense. 3. Adding a function for the right analog stick to look around. Overall, it's still a great game!
like the graphics but the the game just too difficult that i cant even finish . it ruin the whole experience !
There is a lot to say about this game. But is it good? I've spent time trying to find the answer. The overall idea of a certain animal town game aesthetic mixed in a horror setting isn't new, yet still hold untapped potential. Yet I wouldn't quote TSC as one exemple of it. The styles are so different between chapters, it feels as if the devs had a few assets fitting the idea, but filled the gaps with dumps found on the market. the problem is that said gap is as wide as four chapters out of the five of the game. The first chapter was good, too short saddly. the nurses ennemies felt as part of this world with our protagonist, the hospital even had anatomic posters or other adds with character fitting the style of animal crossing. but then what I assume to be the leader or director appears, and it only goes downhill from there. His aesthetic feels out of the "average person" of this world. Some would argue that it gives a Little Nightmare feeling, but even the ennemies followed a sort of grim idea, they shared a sort of filth that just make you want to avoid them. TSC? it doesn't. Each ennemies feel disconnected, too foreign from the protagonist or each others. For crying out loud there's a part where you can find skeletons of normal size humans and anmial crossing people size ones. Are we supposed to believe it's normal? even for some abnormal or paranormal, that doesn't land in my opinion. The orphanage level or whatever? Assets and clown felt more like Ai generated than anything. at least the plushies monsters were cool, yet only the crying angel one were doing something. Sewer level? the baby was creepier to me than the big thing. it felt like a giant version of the protagonist, plus the way you encounter it just lands right. But then we get a big guy out of another game. The meat factory part is forgetable, made me ask questions more than anything, like why is there a goat head among the pig corpses. The pursue by the butcher was also disapointingly scripted. The underground temple or whatever? couldn't tell much about the ennemy beside it crawl like a baby and it's face is missing, flat, absent. nothing to note there, beside wondering why a giant baby wears a cultist robe or why the place has animal crossing skeleton only now. Then the final boss. out of place. yet it wasn't my mean issue with it... The game plays like a side-scroller: you go right. sometime it change but you go right. The boss fight? it's a circular platform. "Oh it's common thing no?" yeh, but the controls don't follow your camera. it is stuck on a grid while the floorplan is a circle. Once you've walked half the distance, the controls are as if your controler was slowly turning itself arround. How do I know that? That's how i managed to beat the boss; by turning my controler arround while progressing. Left became up, down was left, etc... And don't get me started on the world flow. Little Nightmare; Limbo; Inside, these games world were connected or at least communicated distance visualy like getting in a car and getting dropped off. Inside traveling was smooth and evolved with the difficulty. Those games have a coherant visual progression and connected world. The Strange City is just disconnected, our character wokes up or get up at different places. You could argue that the meat factory then sewer could be logic...but then why would they throw, in a hole broken in the wall, whole pigs? it doesn't make any sense. I won't even get into the story, there's none.In fact your character gets out of her car after a crash, so I'm assuming she's getting nightmares while bleeding out or something. Is the strange city good? No. at least it is not worth paying at full price. wait for it to be at least a single digit or something. that is you want to waste some cash for a quick dump of horror tropes.
Schon sehr von Little Nightmares kopiert, aber trotzdem gut!
