Do not buy this. EA has ceased support for the game, and it simply no longer functions most of the time. I spent hours trying workarounds, nothing works. The game simply won't load worlds anymore, for no discernible reason. It is unplayable.
As of now, not compatible with Windows 11 anymore. It's shameful, that they wouldn't keep their former flagship compatible, but then it was to be expected as they dragged along plenty of bugs since release. I's a shame, because Sims 3 likely is the largest and most complete Sims, but then EA is not a good company - and never been - and likely never will be.
The Sims 3 is one of my favorite and most played games of all time. With that being said, I cannot recommend purchasing it in its current state. The game is incompatible with current hardware due to multiple issues. There is a detailed guide that you can easily find via Google, Reddit, or the community page on Steam, however, the guide is quite lengthy because this is a broken game. It's unacceptable that this game is being sold in its current state. It needs a comprehensive patch. That probably will never happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if EA re-released it, similarly to what they've done with the first two games in the series. If you are very patient and determined to play the Sims 3, I would recommend waiting for a sale. Be prepared to set aside at least an hour to get this game running on modern hardware. The guide you want to follow is "The Sims 3 Performance & Bug Fix Guide 2026." If you're thinking about buying this game in its current state, I would look that guide up and ask yourself if you're willing to do all that to play it. All of my criticism aside, I think it is worth the time and effort because this game is a sandbox that provides virtually infinite playtime. Granted, I know next to nothing about programming or game development, but I just don't understand how some older games work fine on modern hardware, yet many other games require lengthy workarounds and community guides to play. Games are not cheap, and I think most of us can agree that they are a form of art. It's easy to watch old films or read old books, but it can be a serious pain to play older games. They should be easily playable for people who pay for them. It's just a shame to me. If developers and publishers are not willing to continually optimize games or develop them with longevity in mind, they should at least release them for free when they get to this state.
My absolute favorite Sims game (on PC) despite the lag and the guides you have to follow just to get it to run well. Unfortunately I had to refund it because of launcher issues I was having. Still a 10/10
So, like me, you got fed up with Sims 4's bs and decided to move somewhere else. Lemme tell you, it is worth it. It took me a while to get used to it again, but when I did, I remembered why I played this game so much in the first place. It's so much fun. Lots of things to do, to explore, and everything feels DIFFERENT, in opposition to Sims 4, where your sim is always happy because there is a pretty painting on the wall that makes them SUPER CHIPPER even after a miserable divorce. If you don't have it already I highly suggest waiting for a nice promo though. Don't give them too much money. If you already paid for it, GO AHEAD. Enjoy it. Have fun. The sims are a little bit weird compared to those beautiful cartoon-like sims from Sims 4, but this game is not about CAS and BB like sims 4 is, it's about GAMEPLAY. And that's what makes it SO GOOD. I must say, however, it does require a few tweaks to run smoothly, specially with modern graphics cards. Look up how to make it recognise your graphics card and you'll be thoroughly happy. Enjoy.
I have almost 1k hours on the EA app but I recently made the switch to Steam. With the right fixes, I can play this game for hours even with only 3 expansion packs. I would say EA needs to remaster this but they'd just mess it up. It's not perfect but it's a damn good time!
I love the sims 3 so much and im devastated. Ive tried...and tried...and tried to get the game to work on my new laptop but it wont. Ive bought it on the EA app and steam and neither work. If i try to launch the launcher it will work but once in the launcher and i hit play...it wont open. It crashes. But if i launch it through the files it will open up the game but when i go to create a world it says "A serious error has occurred while loading 'Moonlight Falls.world'. It is strongly reccomended that you restart the application." And ive tried...everything i can think of and its just not happening. T^T
An absolute technical trainwreck that EA still has the audacity to charge hundreds of dollars for.
Don't get me wrong — this game is a masterpiece and (maybe) even the peak of the entire franchise. Its open-world mechanic is legendary, the customization is unmatched, and it rightfully earned its iconic, cult-classic status. But today, making it work requires jumping through an endless series of technical hoops. So, why skip buying this anywhere:

Lag festival: Runs like garbage even without any DLCs. With them? Enjoy your $400 slideshow.
Constant frame drops: Even on a high-end PC, the game stutters and drops FPS like crazy.
Modern CPU? Forget it: It straight up crashes on launch unless you manually mod the game's .exe file.
Task Manager gymnastics: If you don't patch it, your only other option is to speedrun Task Manager to change CPU affinity before the executable kills itself.
Config file nightmare: Get ready to dig into old .ini files and manually edit values just to make the game recognize a modern GPU.
Community-made life support: You are forced to download, install, and troubleshoot a dozen community mods just to fix core game bugs and memory leaks.
Insane pricing: $20 for a broken 2009 base game, plus another $380 for 19 overpriced DLCs.
It’s literal abandonware. EA completely ghosted this game but still keeps their hands in your pockets. Do not buy. Save your money and acquire this classic through other, more reasonable means online.
