1200+ Hours. And 6.6 hours in the last week. Between that week and the last two years. What changed you ask. My PC, from windows 10 laptop to Windows 11 Desktop. And with a colossal upgrade. But lets begin: So first off when it was playable it was one of the greatest games to indulge every creative itch you can imagine, Sure there was expense, but I always got every expansion on the sale, and the game too. Thank you Steam. Now the game is lot a less playable than it was then. What changed? My CPU changed. Sims 3 runs on 2 to 3 cores my CPU is over 24 cores. So how you may ask to i play it? I go to task manager, and selected the launcher in the details panel and set the affinity to load using only one core. Then I find the game file in the details panel and reenable all the cores. Does this get me into the game? Yes. Does it guarantee long hours of play? No. Remember 6.6 hours this week since i reinstalled it. When I used to play Sims 3, You cannot play Sims 3, and not spend 10+ hours a day enjoying every little bit of it. Which gets to the means to correct this feature. I recommend Nraas mods. They are useful for trying to fix what EA has not. Is it perfect. No. But is it better? A little, and in regards to keeping one of my favorite games of all time alive... every little bit helps. But I think EA has made a modification to the game, as I do not recall in the ingame options for animations and shaders to get support. I have resolved to uncheck them because I think thats where the game is getting hung up on. Now thats only a theory right now. Maybe somone else will be able to experiment. Now. It would be thrilling if Steam picked up Sims 3 and purchased all the rights to the game, and its content, maybe with a little help from the Valve team, the game could go through a massive revamp. But in of itself the game is good on its own. To relive even if in short brief amounts a bit of my first seeds of creativity. Still, if your not willing to deal with the hassle I can recommend Big Ambitions for that itch to want simulate business, and Paralives for trying its hardest to make a spiritual successor. (These two game developers would make a killer game together if they could find a way to merge their ideas into gameplay) But for my final Verdict. Is Sims 3 a great game. Absolutely So it will get a thumbs up. Is it playable at the level of enjoyment. Sadly no. But it still gets to keep its thumbs up. Because who knows maybe in some strange way this review will be the start of a future valve project. Or it will fade into obscurity. But I stand by it. Thanks to you all. Happy Gaming Steamers.
still better then Sims 4 Also Island Paradise is so epic, get that expension!!
Even though I have left a negative review for The Sims 4, TS3 is where it's at. Pros: - Fully fleshed out game - No more constant updates so your game isn't breaking - Building is so much better compared to TS4 - Open world - Family tree - Memories! Cons: - Open world (If your PC isn't the best and you get several generations deep, some performance issues arise) - No more updates (This can be viewed as a negative for some) - Learning curve if used to only TS4 (Live mode is not as forgiving, Building is different, camera is different just to name a few points) - DLC is still full price (ONLY BUY ON SALE) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All in all, TS3 is by far the better version of the sims games that you can be playing. I found there to be plenty of videos and guides out there for if you need any tips and tricks on what to do or how to do things in the game. I find the family game play seems more important. There feels like more connection in the world in general. More than likely due to the Open world. No loading screens to go lot to lot, no disjointed feeling to your relationships outside of your household. Sims actually live their lives and you can see it happen all before you. The autonomy is also OUTSTANDING compared to TS4. Skills take some time to build up, no just reading one book and you jump up 2-3 skill levels. Gaining wealth feels like you are actually working towards your goals. TLDR; TS3>TS4
All the player fixes from EA's abandoned mess don't fix this buggy heap. I would still recommend it over the massive disappointment of Sims 4. DLC being sold for full price that breaks the game for an almost 20 year old game is diabolical but that's EA for you.
READ THIS BEFORE PURCHASING! Steam Launcher is BROKEN! The Workaround only works LESS THEN HALF THE TIME. It involves you Opening task manager, clicking through 4 steps and attempting to launch the game from the Game Launch menu. Then going back into the Task Manager to Undo the fix required to launch the game, while preying that the game wouldn't glitch out or freeze. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE this game. I'd recommend this game to anyone. But do yourself a favor and just go to your Local Walley World and buy the Disc's. It will cost you about $20 per expansion. But, worth the extra money considering that it will be playable.
Sims 1, 2 and 3 are all fantastic and in the case of 3, the open world is literally a game changer. To this day it's the only one to have such too.
I can tell that this game was made with love. All the interactions was actually entertain and the world is lively even without you to control it. It is the only life simulator to ever done this so far.
