It's a very unqie game being weird and esotric with a rythem based combat that i havent really seen before. It's pretty good but it does have a few outstanding issues the combat inst very tough im not particually amazing at rythem but as long as I was half pay attention enemies litertally could not hit me unless there was a type of attack i exclipitly could not deal with because i didnt have the skill, the navigation is pretty poor. its very unclear where to go but you often run into paths you cant take and have to loop back around but tehre was a few times after the eye of the storm boss i think (which i did hitless) and i looked uo a guide only to find taht even in an edited down guide video there was hlaf an hour of walking around trying to figure out where to go, perhpas its an issue with the video but past that boss is another area where you run into enemies with attacks you cant deal with and it becomes very confusing having to look around through every past area. I didnt end up finding where to go but i do think if you know ahead of time its a bit of a where do you go kinda game it probably isnt so bad. It's still a very very fun game and I would recommened it to pretty much anyone whos either really into indies or a casual gamer.
Enjoyable.
I want to send a big hello to the DEVELOPERS AND TESTERS for such a wonderful game. Which down ♥♥♥♥♥ thought of not pausing the game when the world map is open? I open the card and hear myself being ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up, I close the card and I'm instantly shot, are you guys completely ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up? Fortunately, at least when the card is open, they give invulnerability and thanks for that.... Although no, ♥♥♥♥ you, I take my thanks back, and I'll send the ♥♥♥♥ again, I'm not sorry. If you jump into the abyss before opening the world map or fighting with a mob, then invulnerability disappears somewhere and you can take damage. Also, if you fall into a chasm, you have a chance to spawn in the same chasm after rebirth and TAKE DAMAGE TWICE. Also, thank you for putting one ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ right next to the cat, and the moment you knock on the drum to fight the enemy, a dialogue with the cat opens ON FULL ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and while you skip this evil dialogue, you will already be killed. Also, before the battle with the seventh, you need to jump on platforms and if you fall into the abyss, you will fall asleep BEHIND the MAP and you will have to die or re-enter. So the game is good, the MEGA cool design of the characters and some objects in 2D style, and the world itself in 3D, at first seemed like ♥♥♥♥, but then I got used to it and started getting high. The idea with the action game is unusual, at first I didn't really buy the meaning, but as soon as the complex monsters started, which attack the CD with attacks and I have to quickly press different keys, that's when I got really high + rap. Some bosses can be taken down in just 1-4 attempts, and it's sad, you wait a long time for a boss fight, hoping for a decent battle, and there's some kind of sucker who's breathing and about to die himself.
This game is a love letter to the metroidvania genre, and gaming as a whole. It's very well designed, and worth your time. Unique combat mechanics, with some customization options allow for some player agency to make combat even more enjoyable. Speaking of which, each enemy is unique in it's combat design as well as appearance. The different enemy types with unique attack patters and vulnerabilities keeps combat fresh and keeps the player on their toes, with a variety of attack patterns from every enemy. Boss encounters and major milestones are memorable and well executed. All the NPCs you encounter are pleasant and add to the experience, with optional content or just conversation. I'm just scratching the surface of the metroidvania aspect now that I've spent enough time, and it's done really well. This hidden gem is worth the money. I hope this gets the attention it deserves.
You know that game that takes you by surprise? Shaman's Ark did that for me in spades. Before I knew it I was immersed amd didn't want to put it down. The story telling is great, the gameplay addictive, and the exploration made me want to search every nook and cranny. I had way more fun playing this than I expected, and probably more than most other indie games I played this year. *side note, the devs were generously communicative and made patches immediately after I asked about something - never before has that happened to me. Amazing.
I'm having a great time with the game so far! I love how it's like Paper Mario, Hollow Knight, and a Hatsune Miku rhythm game all got thrown into a blender and this game was the result. The world is interesting and the unique combat is really fun and engaging. I'll definitely keep playing!
The Shaman’s Ark is a dark fantasy metroidvania developed and published by Amortiz Games, combining exploration, action role-playing mechanics, and rhythm-focused combat into an adventure built around mystery and ancient mythology. While the genre has no shortage of titles centered on interconnected worlds and ability-driven progression, this game attempts to stand apart by introducing a combat system tied directly to music and ritual. Rather than relying entirely on conventional weapons or traditional fantasy combat design, it creates an experience where rhythm and timing become essential parts of survival. The story unfolds within a world shaped by catastrophe and fragile hope. Long ago, civilization stood on the edge of destruction as a force known as the Abyss threatened to consume everything in existence. Humanity survived only because of the actions of a legendary Great Shaman who created a sanctuary known as the Ark, protecting civilization from extinction. Over time, history faded into legend and peace replaced fear. That peace begins to collapse as corruption slowly spreads once again, bringing signs that the ancient danger has returned. A mysterious Shaman emerges from darkness, and players step into a journey tied to forgotten truths, survival, and a battle against forces capable of destroying everything humanity fought to preserve. Exploration forms the backbone of the experience. The Ark itself is presented as a large interconnected environment designed around classic metroidvania principles. Progress depends not only on defeating enemies but on discovering hidden paths, returning to earlier locations with newly acquired abilities, and uncovering secrets scattered throughout the world. The design rewards curiosity and careful observation. Areas that initially appear inaccessible eventually reveal new opportunities later in progression, creating a satisfying sense of growth and discovery. Environmental storytelling contributes heavily to immersion. The world feels shaped by history and loss, with locations carrying traces of older civilizations and forgotten struggles. Rather than relying entirely on direct exposition, much of the atmosphere comes from observing surroundings and piecing together fragments of the larger world. This approach strengthens the mystery while encouraging players to engage more deeply with exploration. Combat becomes the game’s defining feature. Instead of using traditional fantasy weapon systems, players rely on a shamanic drum that channels ancient power through rhythm. Battles revolve around timing attacks correctly and maintaining musical flow during encounters. The mechanic transforms combat into something that feels more ceremonial and deliberate rather than purely reaction-driven. Rhythm influences offense and creates an identity that separates The Shaman’s Ark from many other games within the genre. The rhythm-based design introduces both originality and challenge. Players accustomed to standard action combat may require time to adapt to the timing-focused structure. Success often depends on understanding rhythm patterns alongside movement and enemy behavior. For players willing to embrace experimentation, however, the system offers a refreshing alternative to more familiar combat formulas. Boss encounters help reinforce progression and atmosphere. Larger enemies serve as meaningful milestones that test mastery of mechanics while emphasizing the scale and danger present throughout the world. Victories feel earned because progress relies on improving skill rather than simply accumulating stronger equipment. Combat evolution remains closely tied to player understanding and execution. Role-playing progression systems add additional depth. Exploration rewards players with upgrades, hidden enhancements, and items that strengthen abilities over time. Character growth creates a satisfying progression loop that encourages returning to earlier areas and experimenting with newly acquired powers. A system involving collectible bones and mystical upgrades further supports customization while strengthening long-term engagement. Visually, The Shaman’s Ark embraces a darker hand-crafted style that complements its atmosphere effectively. The environments carry a sense of age and melancholy that reinforces the larger themes surrounding survival and forgotten history. The world feels dangerous and mysterious without becoming visually repetitive. Artistic direction works especially well alongside the musical identity driving combat and worldbuilding. The game also introduces multiple characters encountered throughout progression, each helping expand understanding of the Ark and the forces threatening it. Conversations and side content provide context that strengthens immersion while giving the world greater depth beyond the primary objective. There are moments where the game’s ambition reveals occasional limitations associated with independent development. Players expecting highly polished blockbuster presentation may notice rougher edges in certain areas. The rhythm-focused combat system may also prove divisive for players who strongly prefer traditional action design. However, many of those unconventional decisions ultimately contribute to the game’s personality. What makes The Shaman’s Ark memorable is its willingness to experiment without abandoning the foundations that make exploration-driven action games satisfying. Amortiz Games creates an experience built around atmosphere, discovery, and unusual mechanics that feel intentionally different rather than derivative. For players who enjoy darker fantasy settings, exploration-heavy progression, and games willing to take creative risks with established formulas, The Shaman’s Ark delivers a distinctive adventure filled with mystery, experimentation, and memorable atmosphere. Rating: 8/10
This game is pretty fire. The rhythm based combat is incredible. The art is gorgeous. The biomes are unique. The story is solid. There are 3 different endings to unlock. I was really impressed by this game. My only complaint is that there is a missable boss and missable collectibles which shouldnt be a thing in a metroidvania. Besides that this is a must play.
