[b]Pros[/b] + Decent introduction to HOG + Quickfire gameplay [b]Cons[/b] - Barebones [h1]Overview[/h1] The Secret Of Hildegards is a very short hidden object puzzle game that's very barebones simple and to the point, it caught me off guard as someone who has played quite a number of hidden objects but in a bad way. For a hidden object it is far below the usual standard even compared to other older titles of the genre, I would say it may be a good and easy introduction to hidden object gameplay with its quickfire scene to scene puzzles. Although it is showing its age at this point, if you're new to hidden objects or would simply prefer to focus on finding things and solving puzzles it isn't that bad of a game to go with. Highly recommend waiting for a very high sale though or just go with almost any other hidden object titles that's available. [b]Story[/b] There is a story provided but its barely there and really just short expositions just to kind of move things a long. If they took out the story and simply explained what they wanted you to do next to progress it wouldn't change a single thing. [b]Gameplay[/b] Gameplay is a very condensed hidden object which takes only the core aspects of the genre. You go from 1 area to the next only to find multiple hidden object areas with puzzles, outside of the nonexistent exploration of the map there isn't much puzzles other than opening the next area with more hidden object areas. Rinse and repeat. The puzzles themselves are not that difficult so if you play the genre often the puzzles will be a breeze. 2.5/5 stars tl;dr: If it's more than a dollar, give it a pass. Pros: - If you only wanted to do the HOG parts, you can skip the puzzles after a 45 second delay. - Unlimited "Find" button with a 45 second cooldown if you get stuck. - You get 5 clicks before the standard "oops" screen pops up, and there is no penalty for the 5 erroneous clicks. - Room graphics are not repeated. Cons: - Objects aren't truly "hidden" by being embedded into the scene. Rather, the object search relies almost exclusively on visual clutter. The simplicity of this searchstyle is reinforced by the use of perspective: if the shoes you must find are on a shelf in the rear of the room, then the graphic of the shoes will be relative to the visual distance of the shelf. - The background objects (non-clickable items) in several rooms are softened while the clickable objects have a sharp edge, making some of the searches far too easy. - The story is uninspiring and almost non-existent. - Some nouns are not Canadian/N. American or are spelt incorrectly. For example, a "case" would be better described as a box, a "mallet" as a pickaxe, a "watch" as a clock, a "trident" as a gardening fork, and "mandeline" should be spelt mandolin. The game cost me $1 and took me 2 hours to play through. The screens were pretty much non-stop hidden object events which was pleasant and what I wanted; no long dialogue screens. The movement from screen to screen was laid out for me in a direct path. The game, to it's credit, is linear so you don't wind up going back to previous screens wondering if you completed the requirements. It displays/removes directional arrows on the screen to let the player know that they are done in one room and are now required to move to another location. As with many HOGs, this one has zero replayability. Get it uber-cheap and gift it to someone who is learning how to play HOGs, and you've got a decent game on your hands. Otherwise, pass on this one.

Though overall nicely drawn, the hidden object puzzles are a pain in the ****. Some items can't be found because they are either obscured by an other item or just too plain dark/mushy/otherwise unrecognizable. It lacks voice acting and in my opinion lacks some atmosphere, not really recommended as is...
