Not good, even for the low price tag. I'm a huge liminal space, and walking sim game enthusiast, and I've had better experiences in Roblox and Gmod. - It took me less than 40 minutes to beat every map on exploration mode, they are all very small and have that bare bones asset flip vibe. - Monster AI is not good, they just follow you infinitely and the maps aren't big enough to lose them. Also it's a possum holding a knife that kills you instantly, so not particularly scary. - The sound design/music is pretty amateur and may be annoying to some people with it's loud repetitive noises. Every level also starts with this bad slurring TTS voice that gives the usual "Huh? Where am I? I need to get out of here." speech and it is very annoying and unnecessary since there is no lore, story, or substance to the game. It sounds like the dev is new to game making. I think they need more practice and should start monetising their work with optional donations (like on itch.io, roblox, or a support the dev DLC on steam), because the quality they are currently working at is more likely to garner negative reputation when put behind a paywall. It's almost unheard of for me to agree with the "This should be free" crowd, but for this one, I think it might be warranted.
A cool concept, and I appreciate there being an exploration mode without monsters. Though I find the gameplay a little frustrating with searching for random mementos. When searching for the power switch, key, and hatch, it’s easy to know what to look for, but when searching for mementos, it gets to the point where you’re searching the entire map and hovering over every single mundane object to see if a prompt appears above it. If the mementos were at least consistent, or we had some way of knowing what to look for, that would improve the gameplay a lot. I’ve been searching for every inch of the airport for its memento for an hour and I still haven’t found it.
Liminal Space is a horror game that behaves as a horror tech demo. You boot up a computer and have options to choose from in selecting gameplay mechanics, areas, and monsters to face off. At a price the developer asks for, it is a nice distraction to enjoy for a few hours if you fancy a more developer approach to these titles. The game does have a lot of limitations. These can vary from monsters not being able to enter the house, breaking the horror aspect of it, or a lack of interaction with objects. In addition, it is a bit disappointing that for all the "boot up your pc" bits the game has, it never goes anywhere with that. Having a situation similar to Doki Doki or Psycho Mantis, where the game reads you files or scares you as you set up a level, would have gone a long way into the horror elements of the title. Liminal Space tries to be too many things simultaneously, which is precisely what limits it. The game has the VHS filter, probably due to the rising popularity of games of that type being played out by streamers. Sometimes it is better to focus on an area or two rather than expand too much. As a horror game, I cannot recommend it. It can be used as a horror tech demo that can give you some glimpses and ideas to make a horror game.
BE WARNED The game will crash your computer if you get caught by a specific entity. I think it goes without saying that this should at least be toggle-able.
Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this!
At the main menu, you choose a level. Each level is the same: you explore to find three items and the exit. There's no story, no puzzles, and no further interactions. You can optionally enable monsters. You can only run away from them - the game gives you no other methods to deal with them. Unfortunately this game doesn't offer much in the way of fun mechanics or mental simulation, so I can't really find anything to recommend here.
I love to get lost on these maps when I feel down. Thank you for this game. I love Liminal spaces but without the monsters. Just enjoying the crazy architecture.
Pretty neat game. I love liminal space games and this one has some great uniqueness to it. The music as well is amazing. The Office map was unexpected but really well done! Can definitely recommend this game. A couple of things to change would be to able to access some areas like in the Funzone the playground objects itself. There are invisible walls, probably since the playground objects consists of whole models. Also a water sound would be great when walking inside of water. I rate this game 9/10
Why are there urinals in the women's bathroom🧌
better than avarage.... some of that is good and some of that bad, Such as there should be a Option to make graphic realistic, and Levels should be more expansive while Horror of the Backrooms is really scary. The Digital Maps how they look like they were created by a Noob is Really scary. I hope and believe Creator will add more of this to be a one of best games. it needs better choosable Graphic and Bigger maps.
A decent little liminal space game that doesn't take long to complete. The game's main premise has the player collect objects and seek an escape hatch. These objectives are shared among the 4 different levels. The music in this game is pretty good. I didn't particularly care for the TTS, but I understand the developer's intentions with it and I really can't complain with it being $3. My favorite levels were office and convention center. The office due to
the backrooms noclip
. I also enjoyed the fact there was an exploration mode, which I feel, a lot of these style games need instead of giving you only the option to play with monsters.
