Information / Review English
The Pit: Infinity is a cooperative role-playing game with first-person shooter elements in the FPS area, which was developed by Kerberos Productions Inc.
Gameplay / Story
Your task in this game is that at the beginning you choose from the different classes such as marine, scout or engineering characters, decide on one of them and then you have to enter a terrible pit with your chosen class, which is made of high-tech Dungeons arise in which diabolical experiments on life forms from all over the galaxy are carried out. Depending on the character class you have chosen, they will bring you different skills and bonuses on your journey. The atmosphere is successful and comes across as a bit darker than we already know from other games in this genre. What is also noticeable is that in some cases the rooms hardly look alike or look the same. Enemies can easily go through doors even though they are locked. We as players have to unlock them first. But what bothers me more personally is the camera work, as it is often confusing, especially in fights. The game is the most fun in itself in the co-op mode, but it has also become more difficult. But why would you need 3 characters if it were just as easy as usual in solo mode.
Pro
+ FPS shooter with long-term motivation + 3 different characters are available to you to choose from + randomly created rooms + exciting fights await you + several types of opponents + different skills + is most fun in co-op + some setting options + good price / performance ratio + Achievements
Contra
- Difficult entry at the beginning - Control and camera work could be better solved
Conclusion
The Pit: Infinity offers you a gripping FPS shooter, which is the most fun and action-packed in co-op mode.
Gameplay / Geschichte
Take the very fun 2d roguelike Swords of the Stars: The Pit. Take almost all the mechanic and idea's from that game and slap it in a 3d engine. The end results should be enjoyable, right? Maybe at some point, if the devs are willing. The game is in a state that might work as a proof of concept. Animations range from actually pretty impressive to downright nausiating in jerkiness or just plain weird, like gently stroking terminals like it's your next lover to make them work. The enemies use the same AI as in the turn based 2d game; being oblivious to you till you get in X range, then bumrush you like you shoved a whole honeyjar up your arse. Loot isn't balanced even for a roguelike; enjoy dying of hunger 3-4 floors in. The game is almost pitch dark yet it runs like crap. Every door can be suddenly opened by the enemy that instantly shoots you before you can do anything, making you lose half your hp. The game has alot of potentional, which is why i personally brought it during early access. However, that's what it still should be in this game, an early access game. Everything this game does well at the moment is the exact same thing thats great in SOTS: The Pit. Buyer beware.
This game has a lot of potential that looks as though it will never be realized. The objective was to remake the first Sword of The Stars: The Pit in a 3d environment with the ability to play it with friends. They seem to have barely gotten past the Alpha stage before slapping a 'done' sticker on it leaving the thing a buggy unbalanced jankfest and not that fun kind either. If you see this for 2 bucks and want to have a laugh with your friends at a chunk of unfinished game. Then by all means. If you want to play a full game and experience a 3d conversion of a game you enjoyed... you should probably stay away. You'll most likely be disappointed.
The concept is great, a 3d Pit, i have been awaiting to see all the iconic alien races from sots in their 3d glory, we got one of them and then the devs abandoned the game. They have no plans on adding new content due to low playercount and they have no plans to do anything to increase playercount. The game needs finetuning, improvement of animations and how things function related to motion mostly, the game currently functions like the first project of a high school student (janky) and not at all what one would expect of a dev team that made the iconic sots games. The game has promise, it is too bad it's development died.
This game is a terrible buggy unstable mess. 1. It defaults to windowed mode and if expanded to full screen mouse controls will still be set as if in windowed mode, even after closing and restarting, making the game completely unplayable. 2. Game is extremely stingy, especially with food, making starving the most common cause of death. 3. While the turn based original was excellent, the AI in this real time version is terrible, making it common for enemies to rush the player and overwhelm them. Buy or play the original, this is not worth your time or money.
I was able to get pretty far into the 2d version of this but in 1st person 3d real time action the game balance is way out of wack, far too many enemies rush you or you get glitched and cannot move or the enemies get stuck inside of you the floor or each other. Its a mess, loot is not nearly balanced even on easy mode.
This game was the most pathetic cash grab derived from a previously good game you will ever likely find on steam. The game was launched an unfinished and buggy mess, and so it remains. The game hasn't been updated since 2022, yet they felt comfortable having the gall to charge for DLC for a game that they hadn't even fixed. This should have never even left early access and the people who dumped this crap onto the shop should feel bad for the lack of pride they have in their work. Sword of the Stars: The Pit was an amazing game. This is a game that exists, much to the chagrin of many.
Pit infinity has come a long way since Early Access and I was glad to have revisited recently. After coming off my first win (hard scout) I feel now is a great time for a review. Briefly, if your a pit fan, it's a great game. If your not a pit fan, it is an ok game. With some balancing and some bug fixes, it could be a spectacular game for most players. As a fan of the pit, it is amazing to see all the horrors of the pit come to life in fearsome 3d. They truly do look great even if you are not familiar with the pit. I'm no expert in graphics and very biased here as I am one of the biggest pit fans out there, but I do really like the look of pit infinity. It can be a little dark for some folks in the early floors (the later floors brighten up) but I do like how effective and fun the flashlight is to use. Here are some pros: Finding loot is exciting. Not as much as in pit 1, but still in most cases finding weapon lockers and hoping to find some beastly weapon is something to look forward to. Fast and furious – Enemies come at you fast and hard and ambush you leaving you scrambling to survive and preying on the panic prone pit dwellers. High Replayability - With the different classes, varied loot, monster generation and difficulty lvl, you can get hundreds of hours of gameplay. Nice RPG elements – Each class has a unique feel to it and leveling characters is quite fun. Fast and simple crafting – Although I really like the original pits crafting, the simplified crafting here really fits the fast paced style of infinity. Good level design – The final floor was great! Multiplayer – Had a few multiplayer runs and the co-operation and chaos that ensues is great! It was surprisingly stable with the odd crash and bug here and there but I do recommend trying it with a friend. Cons Weapon imbalances – There was some patch that added the boomstick to almost all characters starting gear. This weapon is too strong and it feels like the game is balanced around it. This takes out the fun of finding new weapons as nothing is really better than this weapon. Most weapons could use a buff and the boomstick, frankly needs to be removed. Food is irrelevant – Even without any recipes unlocked, food is irrelevant in singleplayer. Beds – Beds are too slow to use for some characters. Also could add a food cost to it to assist in making food relevant Stagger and recoil – Some weapons are near unusable because of the stagger you receive from getting hit. I found the recoil on the weapons intense but I got used to it but some players may find it too much. Buggy inventory – issues with the inventory screen and medkits. Despite its issues, if you can overcome them you'll actually find a great game with lots of replayability.
If you liked the Pit and like the idea of trying to play a roguelike as an FPS, you'll probably like it. It's unpolished. There's lots of signs of it being an elaborate, high-graphic-fidelity game made by three people in a shed etc., but it's functional and it doesn't really impinge too much. It's got a fairly unique feeling in being a roguelike FPS. You're running and gunning (or swording) and levelling up but you're still a roguelike character, bound to die over and over again, and certain to find yourself frustrated, killed cheaply, or otherwise outrageously annoyed. Yet despite that it's pretty neat. Going to a new floor is a feeling I associate with the original System Shock- every floor of Citadel Station felt like I was invading a new floor of a megadungeon, encountering new traps, terrain, enemies, and more. A discrete and qualitatively different feeling from "oh new shootums level" This literally is that- you *are* descending into a megadungeon and each floor *is* like that. Because it's a 1:1 copy of the original Pit, it's got a rather impressive enemy variety for a shooter- even discounting the ones that are more dangerous recolors of another baseline enemy. Feel free to play The Pit original to practice your stats- most everything (except recipes for some reason) carries over. Level Up heals you to full and may be tactically stored (but if you get enough XP to level up again...) It's kind of cheap and unpolished, but it's distinctive and neat. Wandering gloomy steam-filled corridors desperately wishing I had a quicksave button is very... immersive, perhaps. disclaimer: I was not paid for this review, but the only possible way they'll remake sword of the stars 2 into a playable game is if they have enough money to do so.
It is kinda jank, but somehow alot of fun.
