Beautiful game with a message that touches the heart. -243 -100 -157 -30 -156 A little sad to be finished but what an experience! Despite how it looks (and how the early acts play out), this is a TRANSLATION game, not a math/science/comp-sci game. The math and science are used to establish common ground between the aliens and your translation team, then the meanings of words are abstracted to fit cultural ideas like emotion, ethics, and philosophy. Science remains a focus throughout but the goal is to translate (and UNDERSTAND) the message. The math/science is high school level and doesn't get too crazy. The in-game references plus help from your fellow scientists will get you through. For the more abstract parts, it helps to be open to the imprecision and "fuzziness" of translation. If you're sweating a bit, you're doing it right! Plus there's a linguist on your team who is happy to help. :) I've done translation work in the past and this game does an excellent job of simulating the loop of "be confused, check earlier translations, pick something close enough, argue with co-translator (optional but fun!), refine translation, find new context, refine more, etc." The satisfaction of hitting the perfect word for a new concept is amazing. (-235 is just... so good.) By the way, I HIGHLY recommend playing this game with a friend, family member, spouse, etc. Test the strength of your relationship! 8D (I called this game "translation argument simulator" and my spouse was like "yeah no it's not SIMULATED lol.") The puzzles are compelling, as are the characters and the story. Can be frustrating at times, since the answers tend to be strict and the grammar can throw you off. Well worth playing.

This game is very difficult to put down once you start playing and get into the flow. The temptation to solve of just one more is real. Most of the puzzles are fair, though there have been a few that I would never have guessed without looking them up. Still, a handful of those in the 500+ puzzles I've done up to now is a good ratio. The start can be a bit rough if you struggle with math or geometry. Have pen and paper prepared. But it is very much worth the trouble.

Absolutely beautiful game. The love and care that was put into this is nothing short of amazing. The puzzles were very interesting and the diegetic UI felt very very immersive. Towards the end, the game was less liberal with the hints provided and some responses felt more like guessing, but that didn't detract from the overall experience. Me at The Message From Deep Space Love do!!
