About
The Message from Deep Space is an odyssey of puzzles. Take the role of the mission's Translator, working alongside a scrappy band of scientists, and venture headfirst into the world of deciphering an alien language --- completely from the ground up.
Set in 1973, Earth is the recipient of a meteorite that broadcasts radio waves. In the role of the mission's Translator, the player is responsible for designing responses to the meteorite's transmissions, which, if correct, will elicit new messages from the meteorite. Only through this radio wave dialogue will patterns, words, syntax, and meaning all take form, leaving but one question:
What is it the aliens want to say?
Translate an alien language
Learn about an alien civilization
Interface with a retro computer
Manage a user-driven dictionary
Design radio transmissions by frequency
Collaborate with scientists that respond to your actions

Inspired by The Golden Record aboard the Voyager I space probe, The Message from Deep Space takes a realistic approach to deciphering an interstellar message. Beginning with the limited universal constants available to technologically advanced civilizations, the message spans a range of real-world fields of math & science. Decoding the message is tough, but with the support of the game's meticulous linguist, the single-minded computer programmer, and the affable astronomer, it is a challenge fit for anyone with Curiosity and Perseverance.

This is truly one of the most original games I have come across, I have not had such feeling of joy of discovery since Outer Wilds. Getting to make my own dictionary to understand the aliens is a beautiful feeling. Just finished Act 9 (out of 12) after 15 hours of decoding messages, and I gotta say, the characters grew on me, be it the translation team, Dr. Doppler, or even the mysterious author of the messages (which I have named Kevin in my save). Godspeed Kevin, KEVIN ALIVE DO MAKE HUMAN HAPPY

Amazing game, very well thought out
I love this game. I don't know if I've ever loved a game this much, it is so emotional for a number game. It made me cry. REMEMBER & MISS.
If you like math this is a very fun game!

Absolutely incredible game. It was far longer than I expected, and yet I wanted more. I love all the characters - they have very strong voices. I wish I could learn more about this world!! The ending cutscene was such a nice unexpected treat. I've been recommending this game to everyone around me and I suspect I will be continuing to recommend it forever.
Great game, It's a lot of very fun puzzles. I have three critique points, everything else in the game is essentially perfect: The astronomer is somehow made to be more stupid than he could ever be as a physicist. He will have joke comments when defining words and concepts that were defined for astronomy. I understand that it's for the slapstick, but there's something disjoint about having someone who is supposedly a brilliant physicist not know basic primary school level physics (would also have been primary school level in the seventies). It works very well for the things that are decidedly computer logic (not shared math) and linguistics, but not for physics central themes. Most of the messages seem either very clear or fairly open But there are a few that seem to be extremely specific, while not very clear. Where you can dance around the correct answer, but without the exactly correct formatting,. This formatting can be different from the one you learned when learning one of the words in the transmission, as new words have since been introduced and allow a different formatting. it will not be accepted. I'm 500 transmissions in so far, and I've needed to look up hints for 3 transmissions. It's very difficult to look up hints because everyone defines their own words. The issue I'm having might be that some words are extremely close, but with different contexts. The coworkers suggest "is" for three different words up to this point. Knowing which "is" to use can be difficult. It's a bit weird when the coworkers will give you a hint. Often they are very fast to help for basic math questions "don't you see 1 + 1 must be 2", after you accidentally hit the 3 key once. But when struggling with the grammar mismatches, they will stay silent as you attempt literal dozens of failed attempts. Otherwise, everything seems perfect so far. The slap stick humor is great (when it doesn't misuse a character), the more serious and philosophical parts are also great, and it is generally well paced and well balanced. As a material chemists some of Doppler's comments are very fun. My playtime is artificially low, as I've spend most playtime offline. I think I've played around 20 hours.
A game I anticipated liking and turned out loving. As a puzzle game, it exceeds expectations. You are tasked with being an alien translator - parsing the meanings and combinations of different alien terms. The gameplay loop is rewarding, the puzzles are fair but challenging, and the hint system is multi-layered, opt-in, and (very surprisingly) narratively consistent. That alone would make this game worth playing. This game's true achievement though is in its plot development and cast of characters. Each team member is deeply fascinating and endlessly endearing. It's genuinely funny. And unlike any true puzzle game I've played before, each character undergoes tangible and heartfelt emotional progression. Without saying too much, the narrative payoff at the end of the game is also incredibly worth the effort. For me, this game is one of those games that I will think about constantly and regret not being able to forget so that I can play it again.
This game tickles a lot of my favorite things... math, science, programming... so of course I love it. But do yourself a favor and grab the demo before buying, I think you'll find out quickly if it's for you or not.
