Game launched 8 years ago. 3rd Chapter still not here. Total scam. Do NOT buy! Here is a compilation of all the lies, excuses and promises: ___________________________ *Replies in "Act 3" post by Retr0, June 2016 to March 2021 ( https://steamcommunity.com/app/313360/discussions/0/351660338683896374/ ): 24 JUN 2016 - 20:26
Hello thar! The plan is to quit my regular job end of July and devote the full month of August to finishing it, so with any luck, around September.
25 DEC 2016 - 16:02
Act 3 going slow, mostly health and financial issues, but it's not a too long way away from done. Thanks for popping in! Ya know... I'll send an Indiegogo update to let all backers know how things are going. Hopefully not too spammy.
28 JUN 2017 - 22:34
Thanks magitaan, Thankfully it won't be that long. ;) This thing hangs over my head like the sword of Damocles and will until it's done. Well at least my health issues seem to be improving. This helps a lot.
20 JUN 2018 - 14:19
Hi hi, Re timing. There's a gaming event here at the end of November, so I'm thinking it'd be great to have act 3 out in time for that. And without giving any detail, if all goes well, from next month I should have more time to work on it too. Keep ya piggies crossed!
2 DEC 2018 - 9:20
Heh yeah, I think that was a bit optimistic. The momentum right now is great though, despite me spending most time on contract work. There's a 3 week break in that contract from 14 Dec though. I will post some screenshots around then. Right now there's still way to much placeholder art. ;) Actually, I should just release the game in its current state and write it into the story: PLOT TWIST: It was The Matrix all along, that's why all your friends look like placeholder art.
6 DEC 2018 - 12:05
daloco1 - that's the smart move, I guess :) Also, what if once it's finally done, people don't like how it ends and reviews go down the pooper? :P
18 FEB 2021 - 17:49 rustybroomhandle [desarrollador] > Enjoy the sweet little lies Failing at self-set goals is not lying. One day when you grow up, maybe you will understand life a bit. I have an idea. How about I refund you and then you go away. 28 MAR 2021 - 10:05 rustybroomhandle [desarrollador] If this is your convoluted way to say "cash grab" I have some shocking news for you. The game has thus far made *drum roll* about $14000. Yaaay, going to buy a yacht now,, kbaithanks. Also, FluxXerzZ, ConcerndApe's wife worked and funded their household the whole time while he was making that game. Most indies do not have that luxury. Anyway, to the haters - I understand being impatient, upset etc, but full on harassing people on Steam over a cheap-ass indie game is a bit weird and toxic. Maybe don't. ________________________________ * Here some replies from devs on other community posts: 30 JUL 2014 a las 22:38
Good question! Ideally, if everything goes smoothly, no more than 4 to 6 months for all of it - but that depends on how busy our artist and musician are; it might take a while longer. We will be releasing frequent-ish mini content patches though; extra conversations, vignettes, stuff like that, to tide the gap between releases.
2 APR 2015 a las 9:32
http://makerseden.screwylightbulb.com/?action=view&url=progress-update---act-2 Jaco, the main dev, has a full time job that includes 2 - 4 hours travel time every day. He has to work on the game outside of those hours, and if he spent 100% of that down-time working as well as spending 12 hours a day out of the house at his day job, I think his head would explode. I know we've been lacking on the updates front and after several months of gently and not-so-gently poking him about making an update he's finally made one (linked above). The game IS getting worked on, but not without Jaco taking some breaks in between so that he doesn't burn out. How much have you gotten done since the last public announcement? How much left to go?
Loads of character art remaining, but the rest is nearly done. No real idea on timing, and I fear I jinx it every time I try and come up with a timing. :) But in the big scheme of things, it falls under "not too long". (unless you've been waiting since last year, then I guess it's "too long")
_______________________________ * Here also some of his replies to Negative reviews (back in 2015): --- rustybroomhandle [dev] 17 SEP 2015 - 14:44 I deleted that thread because it's a blatant lie. Why should such misinformation be kept around? But hey, let me addresst his anyway. "None of the developers (if there are any left) work on this game full time" - True, it's a labour of love. But how does this make it "abandoned"? "If you follow any of the developers/developer teams on social media, you'll find that none of them are actually doing anything related to the game" - True... and why would they be working on it? The scenery artwork is DONE. The soundtrack is DONE. The work left is character art (different artist) and the dev work which I am doing. And no it's not Early Access. It's straight up episodic, same as many other episodic titles. See Kentucky Route Zero. They too are taking a bit long with the next act. Are you going to go and tell people that's an abandoned project too? --- rustybroomhandle [dev] 18 SEP 2015 - 11:03 The only person who gets to declare when this is abandoned is me. Or if I die, and I am definitely not dead. --- rustybroomhandle [dev] 26 NOV 2015 - 14:40 Sooooooon. :) Don't mind being accused of being slow... because yeah, progress on this is slow, but calling it a scam, or dead, or whatever else is just silly. --- rustybroomhandle [dev] 19 MAR 2015 - 10:19 Very hard to say. My personal goal is to have it out before Age of Ultron (much better way to remember dates :D) and I am booking off 2 weeks from the day job for crunch. --- rustybroomhandle [dev] 9 JUN 2015 - 10:10 You better get a refund, fast, because I'm about to head off to basics school and I'm gonna ask for their best volume control teacher and then I'll craft a volume slider unlike any you have ever seen in a game. You'll be sliding that sucker left and right for hours and days. ________________________ Enjoy the sweet little lies ːturdː
last update: 709 days ago. don't buy this, it's abandoned.
Don't buy this unfinished crap, as people waiting for act 3 already for 3 years!
Maker's Eden says "Releasing in 3 parts, plus bonus content." Right there at the top of the Store page. That was six years ago. I don't recommend buying this unfinished game.
Unfinished game, don't buy it.
Abandoned and unifinished. Avoid.
This is a tough one to rate. On the one hand, this is one of the better visual novels I have played. Quite a lot of effort was put into world building, and the story, dialogue, and pacing are all very good. The artwork is stylish, and the game does manage to create a cool sci-fi noir atmosphere. Unfortunately as of February 2022, nearly eight years after its initial release, the game is still unfinished. There are only two hours worth of content, and the second episode ends on a huge cliffhanger that leaves the entire story feeling very much unresolved. It has been several years since there was any word from the developer as to whether or not the third and final episode will ever be completed, which is a shame since it sounded like it would be awesome. Should you buy the game in its current state? I don't know. Normally I would have said, wait and grab it during a sale if you want to take a chance on it, but it never goes on sale any more. I happened to buy it years ago during a sale, so I am not going to complain too much (the first two episodes are certainly worth a few bucks) but if you pay full price for an unfinished product then you should prepare to be disappointed. Note to the developer: If you ever do complete the third episode, I am willing to edit this review and change my recommendation to "Yes".
Unity strikes again - enabling mediocre developers to make mediocre games. The Maker's Eden is a point'n'click adventure game with a few simple puzzles. The problem is not the gameplay or art, but the technical graphical implementation is flawed. Dials and other artifacts rendered in 3D don't have the correct aspects, so they look distorted. DPI scaling wasn't checked out on anything higher than 1080p, so if you run a modern PC, most of the text is cut off. Not testing your game on modern PCs then putting it on Steam is something I don't recommend, just like this game.
Sold under the pretense that it was going to be 3 parts. First part is okay, but pretty short. None of the promised content was delivered and it's like they forgot about it completely after dropping ACT 1. In it's current state it's not worth it.
10 years in development. Act 2 leave us with a cliffhanger and act 3 is still not out. Be aware.
