A great spinoff of the trails games with hack n slash style combat
It's nothing special but still enjoyable
I started on the Nihon Falcon train recently and I haven't really found a bad game yet. This was yet another great action RPG from them.
This is an interesting title, for sure. Gameplay-wise it resembles the Ys franchise much more than the Trails franchise since it's an action RPG with some platforming elements, but it's different enough to Ys that it feels like its own thing. Instead of a fully open world you have your home town in Remnant Island, and the adventure mostly takes place elsewhere in "stages" that you have to beat to unlock the next one in an overworld map that made me thinkg of old school games in the style of Super Mario World or Bionic Commando. Familiar mechanics like cooking, a monster log book and quests you get from your fellow villagers in your "handyman mailbox" are present, but they don't work quite like they do in Ys or Trails, and you unlock new moves by training with your sword master once you collect enough "stars" that work like stamps you get on a notebook by beating the stages, getting 1 star for beating it and up to 2 extra stars for fulfilling some extra conditions such as defeating X amount of enemies or beating the stage under a set time limit. The story also feels familiar while being its own thing, since you have the usual Falcom writing style with comedy, some anime tropes, the idea of found family, NPC's who react to the story and the world updating their dialogue and routines depending of the point in the story you are, and all that stuff. Also, the game uses the Legend of Heroes: Trails font and familiar units of measurement such as selge are used, plus the main character's family's last name is Herschel and his childhood friend who's clearly in love with him kind of resembles Towa Herschel, so it's hard not to assume it's connected to the main Trails games in some way even if the world has two moons like in Ys and the countries mentioned don't sound familiar. So I guess it's up to each player to decide what their head canon is, since it seems a lot of the fandom decided Nayuta Herschel is actually the grandfather of the character Towa from Trails of Cold Steel. It's not a terribly long game and it has the option of Turbo Mode if you prefer it that way, so In about 8 hours I was already in Chapter 6. Edit: It ultimately took me about 12 hours to beat the main game but, much to my surprise, that unlocks an extra section called "After Story" that takes place a year later and serves as an epilogue of sorts and leads to the true ending.
Fun Platform RPG game! Its a very classic PSP type of game. This game isn't really tied to the other trails series, but the story is good and love the music tune. I did need to take a break from time to time because each platform stages became a bit repetitive. :P
I think its an awesome game. Its just levels that you play through and once in awhile you get a fun boss. Nothing special, but for the price very awesome!
its pretty good
