This is the moment where you decide if you truly love it or despise it; there is no middle ground. This game was designed to be played in "short bursts" and was first released for the 3DS by former SaGa developers and it shows.

[th]Pros[/th] [th]Cons[/th]

✔️ The artwork is amazing, and the worlds and locations you discover have a fantastical and engrossing atmosphere. ✔️ An excellent and unique battle system akin to SaGa with randomized specializations and great music makes for a challenging encounter at first. ✔️ The shipping method for obtaining weapons and equipment was a fun one. ❌ The plot tries to be mysterious and is sadly near to non-existent, and it never truly provides an answer to any of the initial questions. ❌ The game's difficulty ranges from quite simple to extremely terrible. Although the process of acquiring new skills and leveling them up through use is distinctive, it eventually becomes tedious and frustrating. The mechanics of the game are not explained at all, and you will need to refer to internet sources in order to stay up to date on opponent encounters, stats, skills and how to get them. ❌ The game's progression is quite tedious. Several times throughout my playthrough I had no idea how to continue the story because nobody was telling me anything other than to "go explore!". ❌ The most crucial settings (framerate, difficulty and even V-Sync) cannot be changed. An overview of this can be seen here. Just like the 3DS game, it's restricted to 30 fps.

[th]Content & Replay Value[/th] [th]I finished the game blind in 29.1 hours. They come in the hopes of discovering great treasures among the monster-infested ruins of this enigmatic place. You can assume the role of any one of the following seven arrivals as a participant, each of whom was brought here for a very distinct reason: For instance, there is the Templar knight Garnet, dispatched by the church to debunk paganism, the elementalist Meurs, who is believed to be the last of his kind who can communicate with nature spirits, or the frog prince Filmia, who is looking for signs of his ancestors. Soon enough, you'll be able to enlist every single protagonist as a companion. But since there isn't much dialogue, the characters mostly stay bland and interchangeable. Even with its delightful tones, the plot, which is told through enigmatic monuments and songs, rarely sets any memorable accents. The adventurers settlement of Initium serves as the beginning point for all adventures; here, you can relax, shop, and engage in gossip. The selling of maps, which are uncovered automatically during the trips and have varying values based on map completion, is another pleasant bonus. Special discoveries are often rewarded with large sums of money by the King of Adventurers. While the gaming environment itself appears and vanishes like a fold-out picture book as you stumble through the region, and the battle is turn-based. You can issue commands to each party member, enabling them to use the corresponding skills, based on what equipment they have. You can employ elemental shards to create barriers, unleash deadly powers, cure wounds, slashes with a sword, shots with a bow, and shield blocks. No pre-established character classes exist. The correct circumstances must be established before using the elemental shards to unleash deadly tornadoes, firestorms, or hail of ice. Special shards that can be utilized to call forth the power of particular elements are needed for this, but opponents can also do this, which frequently leads to a tug-of-war over who gets to exploit these features. The fire power allows you to deal and take more damage, the wind power restores special energy (SP) that has been used up, and the water power allows you to instantly regain life energy at the end of the round. Before the fight starts, you can also obtain elemental help in some locations by turning on specific monuments. The capacity to design and modify battle formations is another unique element of the generally more conventional turn-based conflicts. To affect a party member's attack power, defense strength, reaction time, or blocking ability, for example, you can assign them to different positions. Naturally, you may assign and combine these options in different ways to best showcase the characters abilities and equipment. Though the elemental and formation systems are intriguing, there are ultimately very few possibilities in both situations, and some behaviors rapidly become standard. Experience points for raising one's rank and developing one's skills are not displayed. They appear highly random and acquiring new abilities is similarly nonsensical. You repeatedly use an equipped shard's power in order to eventually be able to use it without the shard, as directed, but you also continue to acquire new skills, some of which you haven't even equipped yet. For instance, I encountered a game over screen while facing a boss and gained an ability in that fight. Despite nothing changed, I was unable to acquire the ability again during my whole playthrough despite spending five hours (!) training on different enemies. Sadly, neither the difficulty level nor a practical means of avoiding pointless battles can be adjusted. You even have to return to the starting point of the present location if you choose to utilize the escape option. Therefore, you essentially just utilize it as a rapid escape route from a place. There are two exclusive save slots in Initium, but there's also a quick save feature that you should utilize frequently because some boss battles come out of nowhere and don't let you back. Healing abilities can be used to revive unconscious allies, although doing so will cause them to briefly lose some of their maximum life force, which can even be lost if they are knocked unconscious via attacks. Switching about party members is only doable during Initium, and the more time you spend playing, the less sense it makes because at some point, the strength differential between characters that are utilized frequently and infrequently is just too significant.
Conclusion
This relatively generic 3DS RPG, The Legend of Legacy, is unmistakably the work of former SaGa developers: A total of seven distinct protagonists, the removal of traditional experience points and character classes, and the turn-by-turn swapping of custom battle formations are just a few of the techniques present here. However, disappointment soon follows the first enthusiasm. The majority of the components are shallow and monotonous. Even inspiring elements soon give way to boring routine and improving stats is random and rare. Even the esoteric tale of an island that materializes out of thin air becomes way too fast detached from the story, even with its delightfully poetic manner.
Final Verdict: 5/10 💔
Legend of Legacy is a 'SaGa like' JRPG. Instead of EXP and level ups, you get stats and learn skills as you take actions in battle. Unlike most JRPGS, this one is very light on the story. It is much more exploration focused. If you enjoy the strategy, grinding, and gradual progress side of JRPGs, then you might find some enjoyment in this one. However proceed with caution. $49.99 is pretty high considering the quality, and this game is definitely not for everyone. PROS: - Even though this game treats the story as an absolute afterthought, it still has a few surprise memorable moments sprinkled in there - Formations/Stances are interesting. The way you can create and use your own sets of stance formations, including additional unlockable stances, adds a nice layer of strategy to battles. - The way they handle guarding/tanking in battle is one of the more interesting takes I've seen in a turn based JRPG - Elemental contracts add a nice strategic element to battle, once you unlock them. - I like the 'hire a ship' system. You pay money to send explorers out to sea, they come back after a certain amount of real life time passes (whether you are playing or not). They bring you goodies. The most expensive ship is 5000 to hire, but can bring you back some of the strongest equipment in the game. As a bonus, this version of the game allows you to save skim, so you can re-roll what they brought you. - As you explore, you fill out a map. You can sell the maps you make to the towns merchant. Selling him fully completed maps can net you some great money. Its a nice incentive to explore, and helps you figure out where to go next. CONS: - The remaster didn't add much to the game. Neither new features nor quality of life improvements. - Some of the background graphics didn't translate as well from 3DS to the bigger screen when they are zoomed in. - The music is unique. Its not terrible, but it neither invokes emotion nor does it get the blood pumping. It is mostly a lot of ambiance tracks. This includes the battle themes. - Story almost non-existent, which is bizarre for a JRPG. - Learning and using magic is a pain in this game. Its much more comfortable to stick to physical builds, at least for me. - Battles are slow and become quite tedious further in. Everything starts to have so much HP - Even though you can recruit all 7 characters, there's no reason to use more than 3 of them ever. Building up their skills and stats takes so long - You lose ALL progress since your last save upon death. - This game should not have been $49.99. The quality just does not match the price point.
I want to say yes, but I have to not recommend this one. I really love the Alliance Alive, this art style, the saga combat. Legend of Legacy was a very pretty game when it released, and while I think the remake does justice to the visuals, that's about the end of the changes from the original. LoL has a very thin story, still has systems that are not entirely transparent with how they function, and characters that are interchangeable with little consequence. With remakes like Star Ocean 2 and Persona 3, this feels more like a tweaked port than a remaster. I'm being harsh but that's not to say it's all bad. If you do want a challenging rpg, and you enjoy the saga style of progression, then this is certainly a choice. The areas have a lot of variation, the exploration can be fun with finding all the little secrets. Games rarely punish you nowadays for losing, but that's not the case here. The game has a risk and reward balance for fights- Your hp is healed to full every fight, but dying will reduce your max hp until you can rest. You can run from nearly any fight, but running will take you to the start of the dungeon. If you're deep into an area, you may have to choose between pushing forward while hurt or stopping to back. You may also come into a boss battle where you cannot run. You'll be fighting for your progress in those cases, and smart strategies will have to carry you. It can be a difficult but rewarding game. Still, I would recommend passing on this. Fifty bucks is a high price for a 3ds port. Alliance Alive was a much more enjoyable game with an actual story also made by Furyu, and if you haven't played that, give that a try instead. The Saga series is also having a small comeback, with new entries and fan games like Secret of Varonis. There are just better choices out there, and it's disappointing that a game with so much potential didn't receive a little bit more love into it's remaster.
I'm a little sorry that The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered only changed something in the visuals and the menu system, because that's not enough. A more beautiful and transparent implementation is useless if the game is boring and the hours spent with it seem like monotonous work instead of fun.
The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered? A Legacy Revisited, Not Reinvented! (ฅ'ω'ฅ) "This game dazzles with its visual upgrade but struggles under the weight of unchanged gameplay and a thin narrative, leaving a mixed legacy of beauty and unfulfilled potential."
[1] Intro :
RPG enthusiasts and lore seekers, gather around as we delve into the heart of Avalon with The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered. An epic reimagining in HD that beckons adventurers back to its mysterious and unfathomable lands, promising riches, glory, and a touch of the unknown. Does this classic, now polished for Steam, uphold its legacy, or does it falter under the weight of modern expectations? Let's uncover the truth behind its revamped façade.
[2] Game Experience :
The allure of Avalon is undeniable, with its picturesque landscapes reborn in stunning HD, making every exploration a treat for the eyes. The world springs to life in a pop-up book fashion, enticing players with its storybook charm and unique Cartograph feature that rewards every step into the unknown. Players have the freedom to forge their path with one of seven distinct characters, each promising a unique adventure. The integration of spirits into battle, a hallmark of Kyoji Koizumi's innovative design, adds a layer of strategy and engagement, allowing players to harness elemental powers in their quest for dominance. Yet, this remastered journey is not without its pitfalls. The transition to a larger screen has not been kind to all of its visual elements, with some backgrounds losing their magic upon closer inspection. Furthermore, the remastering effort seems to have stopped short of incorporating meaningful enhancements or quality-of-life improvements, leaving veterans and newcomers alike wanting more. The musical score, while ambitious, often fades into the background, failing to stir the emotions or excitement one might expect from such a grand adventure. And then there's the matter of its storytelling—or the lack thereof. For a genre celebrated for its rich narratives, the game's almost non-existent plot and underdeveloped characters are glaring issues that cannot be overlooked. The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered brings a mixed bag of innovative features and repetitive gameplay. The freedom to explore, paired with the novelty of elemental combat and the strategic depth of spirit contracts, offers glimpses of brilliance. Yet, this innovation is often overshadowed by the game's pacing and progression system. Battles become a tedious affair, with enemies amassing daunting HP pools, and the magic system feels cumbersome and unrewarding, pushing players towards a more physical combat style. The game's pricing also comes under scrutiny, as the quality and depth offered do not seem to justify its high entry point. Despite its shortcomings, there are moments of genuine enjoyment to be found within Avalon's realms. The 'hire a ship' system and the incentivization to explore through map sales are novel features that encourage engagement and offer a reprieve from the grind. However, the overall experience feels like a journey with missed opportunities, a remaster that could have soared but instead hovers too close to its original limitations.
[3] Final Thoughts :
In conclusion, The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered stands as a testament to the challenges of breathing new life into classic adventures. It dazzles with its improved visuals and beckons with the promise of untold stories, yet it struggles to deliver a cohesive and compelling RPG experience. This remaster may find a place in the hearts of die-hard fans and those nostalgic for the genre's bygone era, but it may leave others longing for more substance and polish. As we wander through Avalon, we're left pondering what could have been—a legacy reborn, rather than merely retouched.
[4] Side Note : Nyanco Channel?

No QOL,no skip,no save everywhere... And horrible English voice for narrative if you play in English with no option to mute or switch to Japanese voice (if ♥♥♥ voice exist). Nope! Refunded!
