The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak

I will split the review for Trails fans and casual JRPG players If you're not a Trails fan... what are you doing here??? Go back and play the damn series from the beginning. Albeit this was clearly intended as a jump point into the series please, do yourself a favor and ignore every recommendation of "where to start?" other than Trails in the Sky 1, in this series EVERY game has many references or are strict sequels to previous games in the series. If you're a Trails fan... Ok, let's begin. I have to be sincere, the story is BAD, most of the new characters are one dimensional/pastiche of previous characters and the music is -for the most part- forgettable. The only redeeming quality are the gameplay (it's a nice evolution) and the writing (it goes back to a slightly more mature tone, still not at the level of Trails in the Sky but one can dream). And now the question I always want to have answered first: Does it advance the metaplot in any way? Nope. I know it's hard to rate a game that's the first part of an arc and we all know Falcom develops the arc in pairs. Do I recommend the game then? Yes, to Trails fans. If you have enjoyed/suffered the 10 previous games then you will find here enough to like. I'm not expecting miracles here -I know it's a shonen- but we know this team can do it, we have seen the sparks before.

The worst Trails game I have played. Trails into Reverie is a vastly superior product in comparison to Trails through Daybreak. The story gradually got worse overtime with each subsequent chapter. Daybreak felt more akin to a cheap imitation to previous Trails titles when attempting similar plotlines and characterization. I was bored with the game by the time I reached the final chapter, which didn't help that the combat became tedious and repetitive. Worst of all, Calvard is France and this is not Expedition 33.

Daybreak was fantastic! Really enjoyed Van, and I loved how his story tied into the bigger Trails lore. Loved the new Calvard crew, and they fit right in with what I'd expect from the rest of the series. This one’s definitely worth your time if you've enjoyed the other trails games.

There's stuff in this JRPG that other games wouldn't even dare dream of depicting or mentioning. I don't know whether I should respect the people that worked on this or be afraid of the whole bunch.

Been 4ever Falcom made a Trails game w/o Rean that I barely recognized it

Хорошая игра по отношению к Cold Steel'ам. Правда боёвка мне больше нравится в колд стилах, чем тут. Но зато герои интереснее, более взрослые (не считая Фери [spoiler] Ох, как же глупо выглядят нападки на её возраст, когда заходит речь о фильмах с рейтингом 17+ или убийствах. Она же, блин, йегерь. Она же убивала людей до прихода к Вану, нет? [/spoiler]). В целом сюжетка понравилась, но довольно долго разгонялась, как мне показалось. Примерно с 4 главы меня наконец затянуло с головой и я играл несколько дней не вылезая. Очень понравился последний 4SPG с [spoiler]благодарностями всех, кому мы помогали в игре[/spoiler]. Игру немного разбавили юмором в стиле подколок Тио из арки Кросбелла, за это спасибо. Хоть и не все шутки так хороши, но были неплохие. Продолжаю играть в серию дальше, до актуала осталось всего 2 игры. Жаль, что сундуки больше не разговаривают((
