About
The world you knew is gone.
You awaken as the last active Caretaker, a machine built for one purpose: save humanity. Across a vast ocean covering the ruins of Earth, you must recover human seeds, restore the Lazarus Complex, and prepare the next generation for launch into orbit.
The Last Caretaker is a first-person survival-crafting game about systems, choices, and purpose. Every resource matters. Every structure has a reason to exist. Every success gives humanity one more chance.

Recover human seeds and return them to the Lazarus Complex. Manage their growth, restore memory data, and prepare them for life beyond Earth.
Scavenge abandoned facilities, dismantle wreckage, and recycle materials into tools, weapons, power networks, and essential modules. Restore the machinery needed to keep the mission alive.
Rogue machines, hostile systems and the world itself will push back. Repair and maintain, upgrade your equipment, and protect what remains.
Restore ancient launch infrastructure, chart the ocean, gather resources and memories, and send the humans you raised into orbit. The mission is not survival for its own sake. It is a continuation.
Explore silent Sanctuary docks, Refuel Outposts, Underwater cities, and long-forgotten Seed Vaults. The story is uncovered through places, logs, memories, and the remains of a civilization that tried to outlive its own world.

Great gameplay, interesting story! Well polished for a early access game.

Overall I really enjoy The Last Caretaker, it has an impeccable atmosphere and sense of isolation in the game that I really do find so intoxicatingly addictive. That being said as an early access game there are many things that could be improved. Sound Design: It feels like there are many missing sounds in the game, hitting the growth bases where the monsters come out always has a metallic clang instead of a more organic sound. Waves could do with more sound, sloshing against surfaces and stuff like that, since now there's just kind of one main sound for waves and it doesn't feel very reactive to the environment. UI: Simply put its very very barebones and unintuitive, just feels like they ripped it straight from Conan exiles or Ark or something without much improvement in any real way. UI DESPERATELY needs to be reworked and simplified, also it'd be nice to include a way to access the pc terminal info like logs from your character, either via an object or just a menu option. Voice acting: The writing of the logs and more ambient stuff like the intercom voice are actually quite nice IMO which is really rare for a survival game. I haven't cared this much about a survival game's lore or story since Abiotic Factor. The problem here though is the main voice actress for the game. Don't get me wrong I'm sure she's a good voice actor and all but her inclusion as this constant back of your mind voice just really ruins a lot of the grand and profound moments in the game. She just sounds like an anime character or something, childishly hopeful and optimistic and honestly she reminds me of the little robot from the ethereal scenes in Clannad. Anyway, she's just kind of the wrong vibe for the game, instead having a more robotic voice would feel much more appropriate, something that doesn't feel so human, more cold and calculating, like the voice from Subnautica. To me the subtle beauty of The Last Caretaker is that a robot, this cold unfeeling machine is suddenly urged to save humanity and from that there's a lot of beauty but being followed by this constant human force just undercuts the feeling of pursuing a task out of duty through isolation. Instead it could be nice to have the voice actress somehow come into play later on after you accomplish some of your mission but only in bits and spurts. You're told at the beginning of the game by the intercom that you will not be thanked and I feel like it could be a nice reward later on to finally hear a human that you've helped be so thankful. But her being a part of the journey from step one really undercuts that feeling of "why am I doing this" which to me was so profound. Anyway that was a rant, sorry. Enemies: Enemy variety is currently pretty limited, honestly it'd be nice to see more types, right now there's just 4 main types and while cool I would really like to see more variety, more fatal types, and some that inconvenience you in the late game. Sharks are unbelievably easy to fight late game and angels are pretty easy too. I don't know exactly what could help but expanding the combat systems and enemy variety would help a lot. Performance: As said in many reviews performance really does need to be addressed, at the minimum allow the player to fully turn off raytracing because as it stands you can only turn off pieces of it, not the entire system. Perhaps its load bearing to some degree I'm not sure but if I can run cyberpunk or KCD2 or Red Dead 2 on max settings with stable fps I should be able to do the same here and yet performance is notably not great. That's all I have for now but hopefully someone appreciates some of my thoughts. I do actually really like this game and I'm excited to see it tighten up as time goes. Hopefully this won't just be plopped out one day. Still I'll update if I think of anything else. Edit: Also now having engaged with the human creation mechanics, I'll be real the whole system sucks, it just feels way way way too granular and detailed, why are there height requirements to be a teacher? Why is it ok for one job to literally be a foot tall but another job has to be a real average height? It just feels like it gets in its own way, I think the system should be simplified or made more robust in a way thats actually engaging. This is easily the worst part of the core experience of the game.
Got the game because of The Mighty Jingles
I have really enjoyed this game so far, great gameplay loop, lots of things to do. Ive found myself spending far to much time scrapping things, and building stuff I dont actually need but it is amazing.
Very satisfying.
