The Isolated Town

The game's story is very short but also so sweet! Especially the ending, it was so cute and wholesome :) The level design in the game is very fun but also not that easy which leaves you to grind it even harder to get it through, which I liked. There is many different upgrades that you can get that help with the overall gameplay. Also if some stages are too hard to play through/you mess up on few a things, there's thankfully a train that can transport you to the boss in exhange of some coins. Overall I really enjoyed the game and it had lots of fun features and places to explore :)

A short action game you've seen before, but that's not a problem when the gameplay is exciting and fluid. You play as a mute and nameless guy who decides to give up his boring job, find a gun in a dumpster, and shoot the devil in the face. Because that's a massive no-no, you're taken to a village below where just two people survived the monster onslaught. It is now up to you to restore the village and bring people back from the dead. While half of the game contains platformer elements, the other half consists of shooting. The gamepad is not supported since that requires precision that can only be attained with a mouse. Playing using a keyboard may seem awkward if you're used to using a gamepad, especially when platforming, but it's not a deal breaker. Although you begin with a handgun, it’s possible to find new weapons. They differ in terms of rate of fire and bullet count, but they all come with infinite ammo that slowly recharges. The game is linear. You always begin in the village and proceed to the current stage on the right side. If you defeat the boss, you will advance to the next stage. While this means you can't go back to previous stages, there's little reason to do this because there are no secrets or hidden goodies. Well, there are chests that give you a new weapon. These are missable so it’s a good idea to search thoroughly if you want to earn all the achievements. Or at least don't move on to the next stage until you find one. The stages are short and basic. To keep things interesting, enemies and environments change frequently, yet there’s still this feeling that you’re constantly repeating the same pattern. The only thing you collect are gold coins, which are needed to pay for upgrades in the village. Because the village improves with each slain boss, you can find anything you need there. Even though the village might change for the worse once you reach a certain point in the story, upgrades are generally always available for purchase. The most essential upgrades are damage and reload time for your weapons. To keep you from getting too powerful, each subsequent upgrade raises the cost. When more people arrive in the town, you will have access to magical abilities such as heal and coin magnet. It must be recharged after usage, but this can be sped up by upgrading the magic. There is also a permanent perk that doubles the worth of coins. This makes the grind a lot more bearable. Because you only have two hearts, death comes quickly. On the other hand, when you die, you don't lose any coin. Plus, you can either buy more hearts or simply switch screens, which also heals you. The only thing I would change is the location of the respawn point. Instead of starting in your room, I'd move it to the town center.
