This first release indie game from Cappiche Games, and the game immediately grabs your attention. It's clear that a lot of care and passion went into all aspects of this game. The art is adorable and unique and the combat mechanics are really fun, especially the parry ability. Each zone is made to set the tone of the environment you are in. The woodland zone is my favourite! There's a real sense of personality in the art style, and including the speeches between characters and bosses. The bosses in Turtle Run are one of the highlights for me. They are definitely challenging, but they are all creative and unique, with cool attack patterns. I love the story, leaving you with a heart-warming feeling around memorable characters/animals of the game. This is a very impressive debut, I am excited to see what Cappiche Games posts in the future! Good luck!
Having just completed this game, I found it to be a pleasantly charming looking and feeling game and surprisingly challenging at times. It took about 2.5 hrs to complete, but you can return to better those times and beat the high scores. As a first time release the developer should be, proud of what he has accomplished, and honestly leave this just the way it is. The game has great overall character, good choice of music and the game controls great, any annoyances tend to be down to your lack of concentration and timing. His skills will increase with every new project and I look forward to seeing what he does next.
This game is a fun wee platformer that has does have replay-ability elements to it (which is always great!). The art style is simple and cute, the gameplay is straight forward but can be quite challenging in a good way and the music for the game is absolutely amazing. Excited to see where the dev will take this game and what else they'll release.
I beat the game yesterday (minus a few achievements) and I enjoyed my experience with the game. Everything gels together nicely, from the art style, to the music, to the way it all comes together and controls. Which is perhaps my biggest compliment, since the game felt 'right' and 'fair' the whole time I was playing the game. If I died, it was always down to my own error and just came down to me bettering myself at that section of the game. I look forward to any future projects from Cappiche Games <3
Incredibly fun game. The music and graphics remind me of a simpler time, nostalgic in a beautiful way. Couldn't recommend more, you'll want to keep playing over and over to get the highest score on the leaderboard that you can. Very excited for the next project from Cappiche Games. Go Turtle!
Disclaimer; I'm not a huge fan of 2D sidescrollers. I've played MAYBE 2 since Super Mario/Metroid/Castlevania. This is an awesome first release from Cappiche Games. It's rough around the edges but It has a lot of charm. There was a mystery that drove you to the end, fun combat/mechanics, challenging platforming, fun mini-games that changed the flow of the game in a positive way with incentive and a nice aesthetic. The game is very short but there's some replayability because of a few clever (devilish) level design choices, achievements, and a leaderboard (I got 3rd, beat me nerd). Hopefully you don't mind feedback because... well.... Pros; -Nice aesthetic -Easy to pick up -Some very clever level design -Can use a controller -Nice sounds and feedback -Clever & cute enemy designs -Heartwarming message and story and ending (T-T) -Difficult but rewarding platforming -Final Boss Cons: -Some visual clutter (brick on the door in the first Merk level for example) -Occasional frame drops drop input (could be me: streaming, recording, playing the game) -Story feels abruptly started and it slightly loses its way for a bit (confusing at points) -Could use a bit more polish! -Could use a ground-pound or vertical attack -Sharp difficulty spike at points There are a few things I thought about and spoke about in my recording and I'll try to edit/upload a video and link you more input, but there are a few things that keep this game from feeling like a GREAT indie game. I think the start of the game could use a bit more preface/intro before plopping us in (showing a calming dream scene with the turtle in his home, then he wakes up in 1-1 to something hitting his shell?). I think the transition from 1-X to 2-1 could use a short little animation or even a fade-in fade-out picture of the turtle stumbling from the forest into the beach or something similar. There are a couple of difficulty spikes that feel like they could get frustrating for the average gamer (*flex* not me). There was an instance where I forgot I could jump down through platforms and was reminded of it after I struggled with a section where all I had to do was fall through a platform. Maybe that was intentional because it made me laugh. There was also slight cognitive dissonance because I was so excited to save animals and even the story lends itself to that, but I spent a lot of the game completing the X/X enemy counter and "getting better grades" for killing them. Not a huge problem (look at Uncharted) but I thought I'd mention it! Some other weird tidbits like I believe if you reduced the parry timer by like .1 second you could weave in and out of some boss fights and feel even cooler. I did hate how low-range the parry was at first but I got used to it. Past that, I'm impressed. Didn't feel scammed with the price. Love the leaderboards. There's a level design where you put the exit before a pickup and I finished the level without grabbing the pickup and I cursed you out loud. It was funny. Now I feel the pull to make sure I 100% collectibles and then beat you on the leaderboard. I'm sure there are other pros and cons I'm forgetting. Take all my input/ideas with a grain of salt. Really enjoyed the ending and the whole story line itself is so goofy and charming. Bless Gramps Turtle. I'll stop my yapping. Glad I purchased the game. Excited to see what else you put out!
This game is an absolute gem! The cute and silly art gives it a unique charm, and playing as a turtle makes it even more fun. The platforming is tough but rewarding, and the bosses each bring their own challenges, keeping things exciting. The variety of enemies is impressive, and the music fits the game perfectly. Overall, it’s a fun, challenging, and well-crafted experience—huge props to the dev for making something so special for their first release.
The game on the surface looks very simple and basic, but there is a level of depth as you go along and i am enjoying the challenge of the game as you progress, it is really good. Fantastic work hope it sells well.
If precision platforming is your thing it's not bad for the price. Borderline rage game at times but most of that frustration stemmed from long respawn times and unskippable boss dialogue.
