When I was a little kid, my mother used to send me to hang out with an older boy who had cerebral palsy. His mom was taking an opportunity to slip away from the house and leave me and the boy, I was trying to play and talk with him and we watched cartoons, and it was normal to me. His grandma was present too, although I don't know if she was truly present bc she had Alzheimer's or something. There was also his alcoholic father in the other room, I don't remember much about him, I was afraid of him, but he did not do anything scary, he was just drunk and apathetic. I don't know if he was like that before the boy was born or not. Later I heard he lost his legs to gangrene and eventually drank himself to death. The boy did not live past his 21st or 22nd birthday, I did not feel anything at the time bc it was expected, but these days I get really depressed thinking about this whole situation and I wonder how all this affected me growing up. I still remember the smell of stale piss that permeated in that home.
