I just don't get it... I expected to like this but I guess it wasn't for me. You walk and walk and walk, and occasionally you see a person who either runs or tries to shoot you. You can teleport them to your ship if you manage to get close enough to them but normally they just run away - and it doesn't explain why you're teleporting them or if you're even supposed to be doing that. And that seems to be the whole game from the few minutes I played before I quickly got bored. The art and music were good but that was about it.
THE GREY MAN was a wonderful game of discovery, strategy and capturing-ocity from start to end. The visuals are amazing... it's a delicious throwback to old-school! You have captivating (multi-leveled parallaxed) landscapes that (in a very subtle way) gives the game so much depth and immerses you in the world THE GREY MAN is stalking around in. You have AMAZING foreground elements (animated & static) that has to be some of the best pixel-art I have seen in quite some time (and i'm an artist SIR/MADAM so i know what I am talking about!!)... and let's not forget all the characters/animals/items you interact with -- so craftily designed. Each element in this game was made with the love that only a fan of games could make. I was clicking on anything and everything. The game design itself was well paced, simple to digest and tight. Through a series of simple queues I knew exactly what I needed to do -- no operator's manual needed for this game. I could say a little more here but I dont want to spoil things... but the progression was just great! The audio for this game is what really hooked me... from the ambience to the game queues it's just amazing. And let me say they could have just done some random sounds and called it a day but MAN OH FREAKING MAN everything has sounds attached to it... from the animals to the people to the funky hooks you are rewarded with throughout your journey... that alone makes this game a winner IMHO. To sum this all up.... ART: PIXELRRRRIFIC ... GAME DESIGN: BEE'S KNEES ... AUDIO: HARMONIOUSAUCE I really like what the team over at ATK MTN/Attack Mountain is doing! I am excited to play some S.O.S. because if it has a small percentage of the love that was give to THE GREY MAN I know I will love it. All I ask is that the next thing that they make has alot more bearded artists and brothers named Jeff in it (<--- breakthrough concept there). Great Job! For Your Heath Ya Dingusses! and Spaghett!
I like aliens and UFO stories. They can be fun and scary as hell. Unforntunately this game was none of those things. It's just boring and repetitive. It's not even worth the sale price. It's over priced at any anything above 25 cents. Don't bother playing this game. It's not the least bit fun. They took interesting source material and made it boring as hell. Just go watch some videos on Youtube about aliens and abductions. It's free and you will have way more fun.
"What we would do if the stars only came out once every thousand years? No one would sleep that night, of course. The world would create new religions overnight. We would be ecstatic, delirious, made rapturous by the glory of a Higher Power. Instead, the stars come out every night and we watch television and play interactive entertainment. " "The sky is the ultimate art gallery just above us." "Looking at these stars suddenly dwarfed my own troubles and all the gravities of terrestrial life. I thought of their unfathomable distance, and the slow inevitable drift of their movements out of the unknown past into the unknown future." "Equipped with his five senses, man explores the universe around him and calls the adventure Science." 10/10 would adventure again.
I would give this game 1 star out of 10 if I were a box boy in a supermarket, who was approached by an old gentleman looking for canned prunes while playing old Santana tunes on his old flip phone, only to run into him once more on the other side of the super market and have him ask me for the very item he saw me stocking on the shelf just minutes ago and because I'm a super impatient ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ milenial I would respond to him with "I don't even know what you want old man! GTFOutta-here!". Truth is... I was never a box boy, but I'm soon approaching the situation that old man found himself in. "As far as we can discern, the sole purpose of human existence is to kindle a light of meaning in the darkness of mere being." What you just read was a quote from Carl Jung. It is what I believe I did in this here very game. You too can do it. With style, you can do it with grace, and you do it while listening to the sexy tunes of 70's porn and at times what seems like music from the Santana album the old man I described played on his phone. I can't give this game any stars because this is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ STEAM review! But if you enjoy space, aliens, visiting earth through the eyes of an illegal and an experience that doesn't hold your hand but encourages you to spend your time figuring all of this thing we call life out for your own self... you should get this game right now! Also, it's $9 and trippy as all hell. I ENJOYED IT!
Play this game if you want to see into the universe. Very trippy and fun, well worth the purchase, and beautiful to boot!
What a great game. Beautiful art. Great music. Really looking forward to future titles from Attack Mountain.
What a wonderful game. It's so different from everything I've ever played, which makes it so compelling, too. Figuring out the controls takes a bit of patience, but once I understood, I got really into it. You play as a grey entity / alien that captures humans in the woods. We don't really know why, but it gives you a new perspective, and it's not that easy (humans are fast, and some carry guns). It's not a fast paced game unless you make it one. Capturing humans is stressful business! Especially in the beginning. You are surrounded by an orb that seems to expand the more humans you catch. The size of the orb determines how close you have to get to the human in order to catch them. I also unlocked an ability that made me faster. They run away from you, so if you don't want to catch them it gives you time to just soak up the environment and it's really beautiful to look at. I saw spiders, bunnies, all sorts of insects and butterflies.. the attention to detail made me stop and stare at everything for a moment. The music is also really good.
Playing The Grey Man is how it would feel to be a grey man landing on planet earth. You'll ask questions like "who are these creatures? What's that smell? Why are they running from me?" The answers are there, but the answers are not relevant anymore because you have to move on. You have to move to the next screen. Tinderboone National Park is a beautiful place. 10/10 Would capture slippery humans again.
