This isn't my first time playing Lamm. I've been following the game for a long time, I've played its demos and I'm extremely happy to finally see it on Steam. However, my review will not be biased ; the game isn't perfect and potential buyers need to know the good sides, but also the bad sides of the game.
What is it ?
Lamm is a puzzle-platformer, or to be more accurate, a platformer with a cool and unique twist that I will explain later. It's divided in several worlds, themselves composed of six to eight levels each. You access them via a nice looking hub, but progress is linear and you can't go to another world if you feel stuck. Each and every world brings something new to the table, whether it be saws, water or the simple concept of darkness. Despite its looks, Lamm is far from a Super Meat Boy x Limbo crossover. B&W has been used in games for a very long time and its choice here is pretty relevant, accentuating the importance of the colored orbs. These are, by the way, the coolest aspect of the game ; by default, your character cannot jump. He has to pick up a colored orb to gain the ability to make a certain number of jumps (Black = 0, White = 1, Yellow = 2...). This idea is used through the whole game in different and unique ways, which I quite frankly haven't seen in another game to this date. Everything isn't perfect, obviously. The difficulty ramps up very nicely but might be a bit too much for some, especially in later levels. The hidden fireflies in each level are sometimes tough to find, let alone get since you also have to end the level to truly "keep" them. But they unlock the best levels in the game, ranging from "easy with a twist" to "mind-twisting hard" !
My opinion
I'm an experienced platformer player and I had a lot of fun with Lamm. The first levels are quite easy, but things quickly get a bit tougher and you have to think to get through levels without dying. It's never impossibly hard either, which I liked, but the last levels are a real challenge. Even though I've read some negative feedback about the game's looks on Greenlight, it's something that doesn't really bother me. The game looks nice, every world felt fresh and I can't really ask for more. Considering its relatively cheap price, this was good. If I had to mark Lamm, it would be a solid 7.5/10 : Good, does its job well and doesn't overstay its welcome. TL;DR Pros :

Unique gameplay that feels fresh and familiar at the same time.
Replay value : collectables in every level, speedrun-friendly timer.
The difficulty curve is as steep as it is rewarding.
Acceptably long - around two to four hours, depending on your skills and motivation to 100%. Might be even longer if you want good times !
Very low price.
Cons :

The difficulty curve is as steep as it is rewarding.
Could do with less linearity to help players keep playing even if they get stuck.
Limbo 'Meats' Boy; the game has the charm of both, but is original due to the jump mechanic: you can't jump by default and have to pick up orbs in order to perform one, a double, triple or quintuple jump. However, a black orb will result in an inability to jump = the default. These orbs are the ingredients for the puzzle elements within this game and are nicely implemented. The 'puzzles' weren't that challenging, collecting fireflies (= like bandages in SMB, so still a bit puzzling) was! You not only had to search for them on secret locations sometimes, they were not rarely placed in an 'out of reach' kind of style; requiring precision at minimum, using the available jump ability while choosing the right orb. Tough-as-nails sometimes, but fair and very rewarding to grab and move on; no fireflies = no game completion. The levels are nice and varied enough to keep me entertained and the World Map is interesting too, because it requires you to explore. What I didn't like were (1) The hitboxes, that were way larger than they should have been or at least felt like that; partially strenghtended by the fact that Lamm Boy felt like some heavy piece of burned meat with too much momentum, who was almost suffering from anti-gravity -- to clarify it this way. (2) I also couldn't really play in fullscreen: there was this option 'Fullscreen', but that resulted in 640 x 480p with colour, the rest black. I decided to play via Compatibility Mode > 640 x 480 and managed to get a bordered fullscreen, that did look okay. Apparently I'm not alone on this. Ah well, what to expect from a ~65MB small game folder, ~18MB being music? 8/10 For challenge seekers! Competes well with similar games out there, although it needs to be polished a bit more.
This is what the games looks like: https://youtu.be/nQzZ9CuZZ8U Lamm is frustratingly difficult and at the same time deeply satisfying. The artwork combined with the music and the increasingly difficult puzzles will have you pull your hair out and dance on the table at the same time. Definitely worth the price. Pros: - Really good puzzle game. - Incredible use of as simple a thing as jumping. - Great artworks (granted, I'm a sucker for the whole B&W theme). - The control of the little black dude is very good. It feels very natural. - Worth every penny. Cons: - To few levels. - Music tend to quite uniform in nature. - Took me some time to figure out the mechanics (compared to how simple it is).
overall good for in between. can recommend it.

interesting jump game, many ways to jump, so what are u wating for? jump and jump far away xD
I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
