About

Scavenge and fight for your next day alive under the shadow of gargantuan war machines. Enemies in the game can literally tower over the battlefield. To put it another way:

The battlefield is unpredictable thanks to The Forever Winter’s Dynamic Encounter system: enemies have their own goals and agendas, operating in coordinated groups, undertaking full-scale battles — and they’ll intelligently react to your actions. The battlefield you leave won’t be the same one you return to.
Use your wits, stealth, and skilled gunplay to make it out alive. Choose your path in the shadow of the two great superpowers, loot the dead, and make it out alive. While the warring factions may ignore you at first, the more disruptive you become to their goals, the more they'll seek to remove you from the equation.
Ecological collapse compounded by runaway technological advancement brought us here: a dystopian world choked by 40 years of industrial-scale violence between two military superpowers, AI automata, cybernetically enhanced soldiers, human-machine hybrids, and relentless automated warfare. There's two sides to this war, and you're not on either.

The worst game ever that I want to love. Almost unplayable, definitely not worth playing. However the concept is there. Honestly, the devs will have to scrap 90% of this project for it to be even 10% good. It's that bad in execution.
I wouldn't recommend getting this in its current state. It has potential as a game but in its current state it feels unfinished and rushed to be put out. The game has tons of bugs the multiplayer is so inconsistent in working that id rather just play something else. Another thing is that this games balance is so messed up that its not even funny. I get that the game is meant to be hard but its not the fun kind of challenge. Is feels more like the game is out to kill me and will pull out the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing to kill me. There's other things i wanna talk about but to sum this game up it has potential. The concept is so cool and it sounds like fun but the game is so full of bugs and balance issues that at least to me this game should have waited to be published for another year or two.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Frustrating balance. Every update the game is less accessible for players. Have a hard time attracting players to the game despite it being stunning and incredibly atmospheric. Fascinating story, great art style. My players think its glorious but wont buy. Its not a balanced or fun experience. Co-op, Kind of the Entire point of this kind of game. Is a running joke at this point. 1 in 4 sessions is a ctd for me, u get kicked from public games for no mic. The players u can find have no-lifed this game so hard new players are treated subhuman. The live player count never changes because the only feedback the devs get are the fart huffing morons they locked themselves away with. 2 YEARS ON GUYS. Might be time to start pruning dead weight or wrapping this one up, shes done. Dont wanna be burnt on this one, but ive been around a long time and this is not the first time my fingers have been burnt. Also, dont bother trying to give feedback. The community is locked up tight and full of low iq drooling fantools. Embarassing. Dont feel like coming back. Shame. *EDIT: Another reviewer nailed it on the head, even after multiple updates to the gun balance, gunplay etc. The game is still frustrating; "- Only headshots are effective against enemies unless you're a fan of mag-dumping very expensive ammunition." ^This right here, has NOT changed since day one. Even after the multiple weapon balance passes the last week, SILENCERS DO NOT WORK, still. Im mag dumping 7.62 into unarmored light infantry that still come on at you like pervitin addled juggernauts ready for a rugby scrum. Yes your supposed to run and hide, but the ai still derps out and just gets stuck in a loop walking in circles in front of your hiding spot despite losing aggro. If you get lucky another squad or tank MIGHT derp past and kill them all. But then the tank will decide thats where its gunna park. Forever. Despite the platoon of mechs standing within eyesight of the tank lol, nah its no threat, well walk all the way up to point blank and smack it instead of shooting it. This is in spite of the fact that a tank or platoon of tanks rolling onto the battlefield is about as threatening to YOU, the player whos life is worthless, as being attacked by a platoon of camping marhsmallows. Tanks are like big dumb friendly, moving blocks of cover, sometimes they even fire the big boom stick! Most of the time theyre just getting opened like cans and ignoring everything around them. Like big dumb buffalos. An infantryman with malnourishment, a gas mask and questionable education levels can soak a 40 round 7.62 drum mag. Or 3 rounds of a 50cal SCAR-H. Shotguns blow everything up and its glorious. ...... are you starting to at least see the problem here? I get it game pathing and ai is a hard task. Been there, done that. If the npcs are idiots, at least let us kill them!! Im sick of forking over for rubber bullets of various calibres. Rant out.
The Forever Winter, much like Horizon: Zero Dawn, is an art first game. It's horrifically beautiful in its presentation and you can tell even with as short of a playtime as I have, that the devs are pouring all of their love and talent into this game's setting and world. However, Gameplay wise? I cannot recommend the game at its standard retail price in the state that it is in. Buggy erratic AI that either move in literal circles or run in random directions at any given time, a broken stealth system that leads to enemies spotting you through solid objects and walls, bullet sponge enemies that require at most up to 3 headshots with a rifle or a point blank shot from a shotgun, a lack of any quality of life features such as a gathering list for when your out in the field or a map, extremely repetitive character dialogue, unskippable NPC dialogue and mobile game ass waiting times for crafting and vendor restocks. Along with all the standard Unreal Engine™ bugs that come bundled in with any game that has the misfortune of using Epic Games software FW needs at least another full year's worth in the oven and a lot of bug fixing before I would consider it a "finished game" but for what it is right now, It is an appetising taste of what is to come and having pre-ordered the artbook, I consider myself in for the long haul. I just have one thing to say to Fundog... guys, please dont ♥♥♥♥ this up.
First impression, cant turn the settings low enough, very GPU intensive…. Graphics quality is GOOD, my only REAL NEGATIVE is being in 3rd person, and when you aim down sight it switches to 1st person view and there’s some latency with that and an animation, makes me queesy/motion sick…. 7/10
No other game captures the terror of simply existing on a battlefield like The Forever Winter. In The Forever Winter, you are merely a scavenger, scuttling the battlefield in the shadows and scraping together any bits of loot you find along the way. Horrifying war machines lay waste to the landscape, as well as any souls unfortunate enough to get too close. Every decision you make matters, and becoming too brazen can have dire consequences. The scenery, world-building, and enemy design all reinforce the feeling that you are insignificant in a war that couldn't care less whether you live or die. With that being said, this is not a completely polished AAA game with flawless mechanics. This game is currently in Early Access, with a lot of room to grow and refine the current systems... There are moments where you're forced into becoming a one-person army rather than lurking in the shadows, mowing down waves of enemies just to progress. While these sections can be fun, they can sometimes clash with the game's central identity of making you feel like you're not "that guy." Sometimes you'll die to something that feels completely unfair. Enemy AI can be janky and predictable at times, and performance varies noticeably from map to map, with some areas running far worse than others. However, despite its rough edges, no other game has immersed me in a world quite like The Forever Winter. I keep coming back because no other extraction shooter has this kind of atmosphere. When this game hits... it hits HARD. It is also worth noting that, while still not perfect, the developers have made notable strides in improving the basics. The game has seen significant growth and improvement in even just the past few months, particularly with gunplay and enemy AI. If they continue refining the systems while staying true to the scavenger fantasy, I genuinely believe The Forever Winter could become something special. So what's the verdict? If you're looking for a completely polished game, I would wait. If you're willing to embrace an ambitious looter shooter with unmatched atmosphere and world-building, as well as all the quirks that come with it currently being an Early Access title, I wholeheartedly recommend The Forever Winter.
just reinstalled and uninstalled, this game is a major letdown. It has performance issues, frame rate drops, all the usual jank of an early access indie title. What makes this game different is it hasn't moved in the right direction in a considerable amount of time. Wonky AI, janky movement, i can go on and on. The atmosphere and world is really cool, the concept is awesome, but man does actually playing it just not satisfy. Skip it.
