Played this when it was on itch.io, it's a truly gripping and empathetic depiction of the pressures and trauma of being a femme navigating the world. The different paths through nature each tackle a different aspect of that experience, and it's a beautiful and tragic reminder of all the potential for ones life to be affirmed by the world and by themselves, and also the potential to be torn down, abused, and neglected. Stone is no novice to mkaing deeply intelligent and poignant games, and earth person is not exception. A must play for anyone who has thoughts to think on feminism, nature, and the world
loved it -- the minimalism of the art, the dialogue, delphine's insecurities being so. painfully relatable. the allegories. despite its length it really. cut deep. thank you for this.
With profound introspections via carefully crafted metaphors, the earth is a better person than me seems to explore the effortless normalcy that one desires and despises simultaneously. The game is a cathartic experience cleverly illustrated and wonderfully narrated. A window into how we form attachment, perceive ourself as the other, and define the blurry line between intimacy and being loved for who we are. It is an interesting take on mental health and I highly recommend it :)
This game is so beautifully crafted. I felt like I was in a world made of poetry while playing it. All the issues it deals with, especially in the sun, river and flower routes, I think, are poignant ones, insecurities that we may have and not even have noticed or thought about, but just accepted. We go through the same explorations that Delphine does. Though some of the game feels quite pessimistic, if you play through all the routes, you can find endings that speak to the strength of the human spirit, the importance of honesty in intimacy, and what it means to find oneself. I would highly recommend this, but do be careful about the trigger warnings.
Difficult to Rate but Intimate to Read - the earth is a better person than me is an 8/10
History DDLC, Wonderful Everyday, Katawa Shoujo, Lucy -an eternity she wished for-, True Remembrance Enjoys psychological horror, social themes, interpersonal themes, mental health, spirituality and others. Pros I loved spending time with this novel/game, So much care went into the subtle symbolism and fine details of what this author struggles with. I felt personally connected to this writer, as I read more and more. Kara Stone is now a personal inspiration of mine, in terms of art movements. Art style is also minimalist and effective OST provided ambience. Visceral and intimate story. Cons Can argue it's a bit short OSTs more atmospheric than memorable (this may have been intended). Summary In short, it's difficult to rate this. It's more of an experience. Like any artistic mediums, I rate it on how much it personally affected me and did what it -seemingly- intended to do. This novel was effective. I look forward to more of her works. Check this out if you want a subjective, intimate experience with one's mental health struggles. Sheer loneliness, neuroticism and sexuality are all explored here.
It's difficult to describe how special is this experience. It's personal testimony about life. Poetic and at the same time without any trace of usual bull**it mumbo jumbo. Just pure honesty in all it's strength and vulnerability.
This is an interactive novel/"video games as art" indie effort featuring very lazy/minimalist MS-Paint tier graphics (possibly made to look bad on purpose, possibly incompetence, it's difficult to tell when the developer throws "art" up as an excuse for poor quality). In this one, you metaphorically have sex with the planet Earth. There's not enough drugs on the planet to explain this kind of storytelling. Whenever "games as art" comes up on Steam, there's two courses the "developer" will take when trying to justify it. 1) It's genuinely art and was never intended to be a serious video game. In which case, why is this not in an art gallery as an interactive exhibit? Why is this on Steam if it's not a serious video game? Why are you charging $10 for this crap? 2) It's intended to be a serious video game, and not just art. In which case, why are the graphics so bad? Why is it just a crappy hippy weirdo interactive novel thing and not a proper video game? Why are you charging $10 for this crap? $10 gets you actual, real, playable, enjoyable video games. If you want hippy weirdo art, you can find an infinite amount of it at your local art gallery, usually for free, and it's of far better quality than this because it's made by actual talented artists, in the true sense of the word.
The Sun needs to be sent to horny jail. Solid and short visual novel with several paths to multiple worthwhile endings. Each ending can be achieved in just a few minutes and all of them are well written and thought provoking pieces on the protagonist's mental state and struggles. The price is low and the game is unique. Give it a try!
