Wave shooter with 3 waves then move onto a boss fight, robots are the enemies and action is fast. It has the three star system like phone games when you finish a level. Once completed another map opens up and you fight the robots in another setting. It's got a steampunk western feel and the robots look kind of cool but only about three or four different types. Main problem is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ teleport system that gets frustrating. Once wave cleared you move onto.a similar area but with more robots and sometimes none appear for a while if you don't move. It gets boring after a few waves but the boss fights help but you have no way if telling if you're hitting it or missing. Guns are unresponsive and need better hit reaction. It's a neutral review for me while it did have some fun times not enough and the teleport system (teleport with arrow to face right direction but didn't work like that most of the time and to fiddly in action periods) See video for gameplay https://youtu.be/z1az8s4gzME Treat as a neutral review but closer to not recommended than recommended.
Played On: HTC Vive
The Copper Canyon Shoot Out is yet another wave-based shooter for virtual reality. This time, however, instead of sending hordes of zombies and monsters your way, the game takes place in the wild west and sends hordes of robot cowboys to gun you down instead. There are three levels, with the first being unlocked by default and the following two being unlocked once you beat their predecessors. There's some replayability as well, thanks to the scoring and timing systems. There are three major problems with this release, all which contribute to a very underwhelming and frankly frustrating experience. First and foremost is the awful, clunky teleportation system that you have to use to move around. On the HTC Vive, you have to click the trackpad and move your thumb to rotate your in-game self; or move your head in the direction that you want to end up facing. Whichever way you do it, you never end up facing the way that you really wanted to since any slight movement of your thumb will screw up the facing direction of your teleport. It's really disorienting for a mechanic that's so necessary, since this game expects you to move around the map so that you can hide behind cover. Flaws two and three come as a pair and boil down to lack of variety. There's a big lack of variety not only in the enemies, but in the weapons that you'll use as well. You start out with two pistols that can hold twelve rounds each, and you can find one-handed shotguns strewn around the levels. As far as shotguns go, they're ineffective at long range and the pistols don't do enough damage, so pick your poison. While I was able to clear the first level of the game with relative ease, the second level had an absurd spike in difficulty that came simply from throwing ten times the robots at me during each wave. It also doesn't help that some of the robots explode, and take with them health pick-ups that take forever to regenerate. I also found that my bullets were traveling through the robots instead of actually hitting them on numerous occasion. You can shoot their heads and limbs off, which will just send them into a frenzy of random gunfire, or you can shoot their "boilers" (midsection) and make them explode. I found that when I was aiming at their midsections that I'd be lucky if my bullets made contact. It caused my death several times over, which is frustrating since shooting their heads off is so much easier although it just makes the robots go absolutely feral and then they take forever to die. It's clear that the developer, Black Dragon Studios Ltd, did put a lot of love and effort into The Copper Canyon Shoot Out. It has pretty nice graphics, decent level design, and a good amount of replayability. It just suffers heavily because of both its teleportation system and its insane difficulty spikes. After trying about half-a-dozen times on the second level to get through a big open area of spawning enemies, I gave up. Anyone can die from being overrun by a bombardment of foes. In the end, if you're looking for a western themed shooter, Guns 'n' Stories: Bulletproof VR is the best you're going to find, followed up with High Noon.
Rating: 2.0/5.0 - It's not awful, but it's not great.
The VR Network Curator | Group Click for More The developer provided a free copy of this game for review, through The VR Network's Curation page.
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/xebw5uUZfwE
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program So this is a 360 robot western-themed wave shooter. This is the poor man's version of Guns'N'Stories: Bulletproof VR or High Noon VR. In other words, it's not very good. You can teleport around an area to shoot robots. I think there were only 3 of them. One charges at you, the other ducks in and out of cover, and then you have the sniper. You have 3 levels. It took me 14 minutes to complete the first level, which has a boss fight at the end. You teleport from one area to the next area, which looks pretty much like the previous area. And do the same fight you just did before, only with more robots. The boss fight was interesting, at least it was a change-up from everything prior. Unfortunately, you have to teleport around during the boss fight and the teleportation is very clunky. You have to click on your joystick, move the joystick in the direction you want to face, and then let go. It was not fun to teleport. You can get behind cover and I think you're supposed to move around the map, but the clunky teleportation makes that not very feasible. In any event, you're just seeing the same enemies over and over again. You're using almost the same gun throughout, although you can get other guns strewn about the field. I believe there are 2 other guns you can get. The gun physics is subpar. You see little white dots coming out of your gun. It just isn't fun to use. The good news is that there are checkpoints. However, to unlock the new levels, you do have to complete the previous one. This game is challenging, but the challenge is because of the clunky teleportation and just more enemies on-screen. Rate 4/10. This is more like a $1.99 USD quality game at best. Even then, I probably wouldn't buy it. Only buy if you're looking for a challenge and you are okay with a teleporting wave shooter with little gameplay variety
Awesome game so far, harkens back to the days of playing Time Crises in the arcades. Visuals are great, everything fits together nicely and it's got that lovely hand crafted feel to the levels, not just a flat environment. There's plenty of nooks and crannies to grab a breather if you're overwhelmed, and then plan out the best way to approach the enemies. Controls are pretty intuitive, nice and simple. Had a couple of issues with reloading but shaking the gun seems to fix that for me. The feedback to the player is great too, feels good to just mow down an enemy and get all those bolts and points flying at you. It's definitely got a decent amount of challenge to it as well, with an option for sitting play if you get a bad back like me. There's not a large variety in the types of enemy you encounter, but there's enough challenge to keep it pretty fresh and interesting. Overall it's a lovely game to be able to pick up and play, replay to beat your score, or even if you're just in the mood to blast some robots and de-stress. Got the game for free but i'll definitely be buying it for some friends who're interested!
First of all, I played this on a Valve Index, with the Index controllers. I personally do not mind the fact it's 'another wave shooter', considering I didn't really notice how many there were until after I had played this and read some other reviews. I was curious about the game, bought it since it looked good, but I really should've done the demo first. This is not a game I'm going to play again, unless it's updated to fix some issues. What issues are these? 1. The locomotion option. This is the most frustrating and the biggest issue I had, right off the bat from the tutorial. First of all, it's a form of teleport, and more specifically, the one where, as you rotate the stick it changes your front location. Robo-Recall style, as I know it. The problem with this, is that one an Index controller, the controls are trying to be merged with that of a Vive, and this doesn't work well for the controls. Any time I try to teleport, it's finicky, and doesn't like to actually teleport when I tell it to, and it resulted in my first two deaths. There are also no other options for any other style of locomotion, even a second type of teleport. This is an issue for me, as the teleport feature didn't just not work, I dislike using teleport locomotion in VR, as it easily makes me sick, compared to other forms of locomotion (such as a joystick control). 2. The difficulty is intense. Combined with the locomotion issue, this caused my two deaths, and for me to quit the game immediately afterwards. I expected the game to slowly ramp the difficulty up, as many wave shooters do, but instead, the first level just throws enemies at you constantly, with very little breaks in between the waves. 3. Aiming. It may have just been me, but having to aim to deal with getting health, killing sniper-like enemies, or just about anything in this game was way too difficult. The lasers that come off the guns do not actually project as lasers, they're mainly the way of seeing where your aiming to pick something up, and the range of that. The problem is, they are far too short to aim at actual enemies, and has proven to actually throw my aim off when I was trying to be accurate when I encountered the first sniper enemy. This was my first death, as I couldn't properly aim to kill the sniper before it killed me. If these issues are addressed, then this game might actually be really decent. Until then, this is a game that I am not going to be playing any time soon. I like how the game looks. It's designed well and the music is actually really good. The problems, however, are too big to justify this game getting a recommendation from me. Definitely not a game to play on an Index, even though it's supported.
The Copper Canoyon Shoot Out - Ist ein Wave Shooter im Wild Western Stil. Mein Video: https://youtu.be/pxUAn0CPOzM
A great, hectic and over the top shooter with an awesome art style and a shotgun that I'm absolutely in love with. It is a little pricey for the available content, but definitely worth picking up on sale! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GB8YO7Kxu7A
Summery at the end if you don't feel like listening to my thoughts... Okay first of all... this game rocks. It's a fun western style, steampunk, wave based shootout with robots. If one of those words doesn't convince you to try this game ( assuming you own a compatible headset ) then you're probably as lifeless as the robots I turned to scrap in this game. This first person shooter is, as I said above, a wave based shooting gallery, taking place in a western town dominated by no-good ROBOTS! And it's your job to... well... DESTROY THEM! It's that simple. Your guns are on your waist, you point said guns... then you shoot. Movement is done via a teleportation system (Point and click using the touch pad) that slows down time for a brief moment when used, adding even more to the shoot em up feel I assume the developers were going for. This game is very simplistic but has a lot of charm. For instance when a robot has a hat on, you can shoot the hat off! That doesn't sound like a lot, but believe me it's fun doing it yourself in game. But this also holds an actual game play element, as you soon discover that hats act as an extra hit for the robots. Soon every enemy has a hat and I'm frantically (and quite comically) shooting dozens of hats of of the mechanical enemies. Another fun mechanic is the ability to remove enemy limbs. By shooting the robots arms or head or even lower body, you can remove weapons and armor. However removing the head will cause the foe to blindly shoot everywhere not just you as they attempt to end you before they explode! Removing both arms causes the robots to go "Screw this" and running into you and exploding taking a chunk out of your health. Let me tell you, there are few things in my day to day life that mach the terror of a giant robot running towards me ready to take us both out. There's a lot of other things to praise but I don't want to spoil everything. No lets hurry and talk about some... Problems... The reload mechanic is a bit finicky when you aren't actively looking at your holsters. This may be on purpose but if not then some fine-tuning would be nice. The boss (Who I won't spoil ) is a tad bit dull, as all three versions of him are seemingly the same. Perhaps implementing some new attacks in each level that have something to do with the theme would make it better. Like in the town level, have enemies rush out of the bar with no weapons, making it seem as though they are drunk, or in the mine level, have a mine cart circling around the arena with enemies in them, etc, etc. That's just about it, one more thing in just a second, this game is simple yet fun, all I can really ask for is... well more levels. I know the theme is a western shootout, but I think you can do more, Imagine like an underwater level in an old shipwreck, or even a level on the moon. But if you stick to western that's still cool. Just continue to make content an all will be good. The last thing I want to say is pretty bad though. The teleport feature has a major bug! If I get close to a gate (these gates are usually closed until you complete the area you are in) I clip through the gate and teleport into the checkpoint room. As you can imagine... this is BAD! I experimented with this bug and was able to complete the first level (not including the boss.) in ruffly 30-45 seconds. This is game breaking as you could probably beat the entire game in about 10-15 minutes. whereas not using this bug has the game running around an hour to 2 hours depending on how you play. PLEASE DEVELOPERS! You must fix this or this game will most likely not see as much success as you or I or any other fans want it too! Seriously it took me ten minutes to find this glitch because like most people when playing a VR game, the first thing I did was see what happens when I clip through the wall. This would not be a tiny but that no one would notice. My suggestion, another VR title, Budget cuts, would have a similar problem if this was possible as the game has you navigate maze like offices to escape a building. To combat this problem the designed it so that everything in the players vision when walking into a wall or solid object, to become a sort of wire frame X-ray version of the model, along with this, everything freezes and the player can no longer use Items or the teleport gun to navigate until they step out. Attempting to walk through walls doesn't work either as the game will remain like this until you return back through the wall or object you initially stepped through. I believe implementing something like this is the best way to combat this rather nasty bug. Over all the Copper Canyon shootout is a rather hidden gem on the Steam VR store. (I say hidden gem as I haven't seen many talk about this game to much which is a real shame.) If you own a headset, Give this one a shot as even with the problems I mentioned, "speedrunning" this game doesn't net you any real rewards (except for the par time steam achievement.) and you'll enjoy it a whole lot more buy just playing the dang game correctly. To sum it up. Game good, very fun, stylistic and lots of replay value. Bad bug allows THE WHOLE GAME TO BE SKIPPED! Overall check this game out as it deserves FAR more attention then it is actually getting. 9/10, fix that bug.
This is such a fun tale on an overused plot now in vr ... shoot pesky robots as you go through this wave shooter western style ... i highly recommend you add this to your collection today fun for all this is a great pick up n play title
