EPILEPSY / FLASHING IMAGES WARNING the main menu features large rapidly flashing white text, no warning, and it CANNOT be turned off. similar flashing text appears in-game as well, I could not get far because it was giving me a migraine. This issue was reported years ago with no response from devs. this is a real medical hazard and unacceptable.
Humans have gone... somewhere. Now you're back and you need to find out if there's a why and a wherefore to this unfortunate situation and all you got is a dingy sub vs an ocean of very big angry critters that will destroy you just for not having the decency of being extinct yet. Suffice to say it can be a drag coming in last place in the extinction race.
I don't know how to write about videogames, but I played this game 9 years ago and I still think about it, so thats what the thumbs up here is for me.
A really frustrating one to give a try. There's a lot to like visually here: the sprite-work is good to great, so props for that. Aaaand that's where the praise basically ends. The game looks great but there's absolutely nothing to do. The maps are both too large and too compact, leading to this weirdly claustrophobic feeling while navigating around a lifeless, boring world. It takes far too long for your dinky sub to sputter from one screen to the next while there's absolutely nothing to do, leading me to frequently space out when one of the few obnoxious insta-kill traps appears on screen to... send you back to the start of the screen, doing nothing but wasting your time further. The majority of the gameplay is fighting bosses. A combination of a slippery controlling submarine, weak-feeling weapons, and a preponderance of instant-kills mean that I haven't found a single one that I actually enjoyed fighting. Unlike games like I Wanna Be The Guy that this is apparently taking cues from, there's absolutely no satisfaction or joy in winning; it just kind of ends. Up there with one of my least favorite games of all time, despite having technical competency and a theme that would normally knock it from even being in the running.
It's okay-ish for a metroidvania game, but the lack of a map is awful - seriously, just look up the fan made map online and save yourself a headache. Gameplay is typical of the genre, bosses everywhere with item pickups; however, the item pickups are not immediately noticeable. They have nothing illuminating them against the background and the camera does not reveal them after a boss fight. Its very annoying to beat a boss, and eventually have to backtrack to the boss room because you failed to notice the item drop. Anyway, this is the thinnest of thumbs-up. The game's annoying, easily fixed design flaws overshadow what should have been a fun, short submarine adventure. The boss fights were fun and challenging, though. So, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
kept crashing , turned off particles still kept crashing could barely hit a boss a couple of times before screen freeze :/
A little tedious and repetitive, but fun enough for a more hardcore metroidvania. But then it updated and wiped my save file so... nah, steer clear of this mess.
An atmospheric but sloppy Metroidvania with a terrible map, combined with some of the most frustrating and annoying boss battles I've ever played, with some extremely bs cheap deaths that feels lousy to restart.
