36.41 hrs in-game clock when I finished this game and got the normal ending. Games developed by Furyu are usually a miss for me but I thoroughly enjoyed this one a lot. Here are my thoughts right after I finished the game. Likes: 1. Lovable cast with good character designs similar to Bravely Default series 2. Great open world exploration with lots of secrets to discover. 3. Lots of character customization through weapons depending on your preferred play style. 4. Turn based gameplay is simple yet complicated at the same time (with banger battle theme). You can also toggle auto-battle so grinding is less painful. 5. You can recruit NPCs that you encounter to assist you in your guild. 6. Some dialogue choices matter 7. Lastly, SNOW BUNNY Dislikes: 1. Lack of voice acting. 2. Story is nothing really that mindblowing. 3. So many things you can miss once the game opens up. 4. Grinding talent points was a pain so use them wisely. 5. You can't overgrind on the same enemy (can be viewed as pros as well) 6. That one chapter where you need to split up and use different characters. Overall, I enjoyed the game for what's it worth and definitely would recommend it for it's fun, simple, yet challenging gameplay.
My feelings on this game are mixed, unfortunately leaning toward more negative than positive. Attempts several 'nontraditional' SaGa-esque gameplay notions without quite understanding what makes that series pop. +Strong soundtrack +Eye popping town locations +Decently fast paced combat +Guild and recruitment system is neat, once finally unlocked -Combat rewards are virtually nonexistent (this is a major factor in my negative scoring) -Story and characters are largely uninteresting -Talent system is woefully grindy for (seemingly) little payoff -World map is far too spread out and empty; travel is a chore -Any character can technically fill any role, but figuring out who can do what effectively is not intuitive in a lot of cases -Multiple game crashes, both on PC as well as steam deck. It doesn't help that the first 20 chapters more or less serve as a rather bland tutorial, allowing you to mash the confirm button through just about every encounter, boss or otherwise. What follows is a pretty major difficulty spike that will punish incorrect builds without the game giving much indication of what you should have been doing prior. While you can grind your way out of this, the inconsistent nature of stats and skills as well as battles being about as rewarding mid game as they are in the first hour killed my desire to continue. I definitely would not recommend this game at full price. Even though I left with a sour taste, I'd still say go for it and see if it fits your tastes if you can snag on a decent sale.
Honestly, I don't understand the hype for this game. The combat is just...not fun. You can auto-battle your way through most every random encounter. But then some bosses are insanely hard. The scale in difficulty, from sheer laughably easy to "what in the hell were the developers thinking", is a big blotch. On top of that, none of the character's stats are explained very well. I found the physical skills to all be swappable, for the most part. But also, the range in power issue is also present here. For example, in the early game, a character has a thunder spell that literally wipes the floor with most enemies and even bosses. Yet anything else does chump change. Again, the balancing is way off. Also, there is no level up system. You gain HP/SP from battle, and your skills level up as you use them. This is another balancing issue, and makes no sense not to have some sort of scaling system like any other JRPG. And lastly, the characters are interesting and the music isn't the worst, but honestly, without a decent battle system to support those components, it left me wanting way more from this JRPG. Maybe it gets better? I don't know, i stopped about 6 hours in. But if a game hasn't hooked me by then, there's an issue.
A charming little JRPG. A port from the Nintendo 3DS. Has all the JRPG trapping in a cute little DS sized package. Fourty buckaroos is a bit pricy for what it is though. If you can get it for twenty or less on a key shop or on sale then it's well worth it.
Charming little 3DS JRPG. Solid art, decent gameplay, though marred by random difficulty spikes. Need a controller to play, though I really liked it both on Desktop and Steam Deck. If I recall right I had to go into Nvidia Control Panel to lock FPS as otherwise it was attempting to run at as high a framerate as possible.
