Game doesn't work for me. I have tried it on two computers: a windows 10 machine with an nvidia card, and a windows 7 machine with ATI radeon video card. Problem identical on both: I get the opening credits, and then the "loading" screen. After about 10 seconds, I'm back to the desktop. I asked for a refund, but the game was over 2 weeks old. I buy 10 or more games when they are on sale, and they last me 2 or 3 months. To tell me to contact Big Fish Games for help is worthless. I read their technical help pages. I bought the game from Steam, not Big Fish. I have over 130 games in my library, and this is the first one that I couldn't run. Both of my computers are stock HP machines, nothing custom. I have searched the X86 steam directory for a log file, but can't find one. I don't care about the $$, I would like to play the game.
Warning: May not run on Windows 7 and up. Works perfectly on WinXP virtual PCs.
Short version: 85%
Mind Invasion is a pulp sci-fi hidden object game done right; from writing quality to gameplay elements and playtime, it can entertain any HOG enthusiast.
Long version:
The Agency of Anomalies series returns to its roots with Mind Invasion, only this time it learnt from almost all of its past mistakes. As we accompany our returning detective protagonist to the Alps, we find clues pointing towards a sinister experiment, this time conducted on the minds of influential people. In gameplay terms, this means we have a large sanatorium to explore with four patients and four mindscapes in it. Thanks to the handy map system and the story segmentation, progress is smooth with not even the adventure game bits standing in our way—although it is a bit immersion breaking that we often find items in the intangible thought worlds we can somehow still use in the real one. To praise Mind Invasion further, it is a quite long hidden object game with excellent hidden object scenes and some rather drawn out puzzles, lasting way beyond the 4-hour mark thanks to its nice bonus adventure.
Unplayable for me. The game always crashes after the main menu. I've asked Big Fish Games for a support but they just gave me another HO game instead. I'm fine with that, but this game obviously can't get my recommendation.
I just can't play as the game crashes. After hitting play button it charges, then black screen and back to descktop. I checked and other gamers had the same issue with no solution to fix it. Steam refused to refund me as I bought it part of a pack and I played the other games... They didn't even read my explanation.
I give this a reluctant thumbs-up. I purchased it in a bundle. I do recommend the bundle. The others in the series were all quite good. For this one, it was too non-sensical even for a HOG. A few of the mini-puzzles were just painful (difficult and not in a fun way). I skipped a few, which I try to never do. On the plus side, at least the puzzles weren't the same mini-puzzles seen in many other games (like you would unfortunately see in the later Artifax Mundi games). There is a map and normal hint mechanism. Tips: Play with resolution 1024x768. There is a bonus level. You won't be prompted for it. Go to the Extras after main game is done.
For the most part, I enjoyed this game. There was a mixture of the types of hidden object scenes (find objects by words, find objects by silhouette, place objects where they belong, and find misplaced objects in the scene and put them where they belong), which I thought was done well and definitely made it more enjoyable than the standard single-HO-type method. The artwork and music were decent/good and the voice acting was very good, though the lack of some animations (such as when characters were speaking) was notable. However, the game is not without its negatives. It does not support the Steam overlay. If achievements are your thing, you should know this has in-game achievements only (no Steam achievements). When "widescreen" is selected on the Options screen, the resolution is 1280x800. When "widescreen" is not selected on the Options screen, the resolution is 1024x768, and some items in the HO scenes (and some important parts in the mini-games) are partly or mostly off-screen. Lastly, there were two mini-games (the wire-crossing game and the A>B>C letter changing game) which I found to be extremely tedious and frustrating, and not enjoyable at all. After fighting with these for over an hour, I finally decided to just skip them and forfeit the "complete all minigames without skipping" achievement. These games seemed to go past "challenging" and straight into "punishing" territory, at least for the casual gamer. Overall, I did enjoy this game a lot, and I definitely recommend it.
Very nice HOG - good voice acting and graphics. I thought the plot was good. The game has in-game achievements and collectibles as well as a bonus chapter. Would definitely recommend. I played with windows 10 with an nvidia card and had no problems of any kind... My only wish is that they'd have trading cards and steam achievements for the achievements already in the game.
I would recommend this game to anyone. 4.5 stars.
