About
The year is 1997.
Listening stations have detected a massive, non-biological sonar anomaly at the bottom of a remote sector of the Pacific Ocean. Its acoustic signature matches no known terrestrial vessel, and its exact location remains unknown.
You are sent in a small submersible to investigate possible targets, identify the source of the signal, and report your findings back to the surface.
The Abyss Below is a short PSX-style deep-sea psychological horror game about isolation, limited visibility, and discovering something that should not exist. The entire experience is designed to be played in a single sitting, taking about an hour to complete.
Visibility is almost zero, and there is no clean HUD. Use the physical instruments inside your cockpit to stay on course: sonar, depth, map, and onboard telemetry.
Follow coordinates and read sonar returns as you move through dark underwater terrain. Your front window only shows fragments of what is ahead — the rest must be understood through sound, signals, and instruments.
Reach each target, maneuver into optimal range, and use onboard sensors to send scan data back to the surface.
Each scan reveals another piece of the mystery, drawing you closer to the source of the anomaly.
Follow the trail of strange targets through the dark and send your findings back to the surface.
What begins as a search for an unknown sonar anomaly gradually leads toward something hidden beneath the seafloor. Distorted radio contact, impossible structures, and unexplained signals begin to reshape the mission piece by piece.
Something down there has been waiting for a very long time.
And every scan brings you closer to it.

I have to admit this is just really quite bad. Every sighting of *things* underwater has clipped a quarter to three quarters of its entire body through the floor or the canyon walls. Every single oddity/creature/something. Some of them I could only see a tiny bit of the intended encounter as a result. This is incredibly low-effort and badly made and undermines itself with every intended spook. It's also poorly guided, constraining you to very limited options, single objectives, but with unclear locational triggers for progression so you can end up doing 'intelligent' exploration and miss that you were meant to simply go straight toward the danger into a very particular but entirely unmarked location to trigger the next stage of the objective. If you hug the walls of a sector mapping it out and trying to take the glimpses of giant dangerous creatures seriously, you can end up missing the triggers for 10+ minutes of bored circling, and as there's no real dynamism to encounters at least in the zones this happened, you run out of any real tension or interest. It's a copycat game, that much is very obvious, but to be clear I don't think the game it's copying is very good either - this is just worse.

Scary Scuffed Games #489 https://twitch.tv/DitoMido Bisherige Reviews Archiv: https://rsg.ditomido.de/archive Vorgeschlagen von: Chaoskater85 The Abyss Below ist ein Iron Lung Klon aber mit eigenem World building und ist insgesamt etwas moderner und mechanisch ausgereifter. Der Vibe ist aber sehr ähnlich. Rating: Dito: 4/5 Chat: 3.75/5 Gesamt: 3.88/5
Очередной представитель совершенно внезапного жанра "Подводной чертовщины" (я хз как это назвать) наряду с there is nothing down there и iron lung.
Gameplay no meu canal : https://youtu.be/kjQAV1-X0Ds
