Very good but very short game, I'm mostly worried how the movie will manage to drag this into 2hrs long. Edit: Guys I just watched the movie, it adapts the game pretty well actually and it didn't feel overly long!!!
Well I watched mark's Iron lung movie. And when I watched it. I didn't know what the hell it was. Until at the very end, I realized it was based off of a game... My brother wanted to play it. And he gifted me this. Easily the best indie game ever in my opinion and I think others can prob like it too.
Spongebob: Box of Imagination - The Game
Only scary thing about this game is the mass hysteria of people saying that this is the scariest / best thing they've experienced. You sit in a box for an hour pressing five (5) buttons, navigating a map and hearing noises. "But the worldbuilding!" - what worldbuilding? There's a sheet of paper and two forced in walls of text. Everything scary about this game doesn't exist in the game. There's an oxygen meter and a hull fire that is scripted - these exist purely to keep the player engaged because absolutely nothing else is happening in this game; they serve no purpose, so there isn't even the tenseness of a time limit. Unbelievably boring, very much a chore to play. looking at the distance between the points of interest had me experience more dread than the atmosphere ever did. "The concept is scary" I'm in a subamarine being
chased by a fish
. A scarier concept is contributing to a system that kills / assaults / holds people down in poverty for entire bloodlines on the other side of the planet with the money you earn for said system by just trying to feed yourself - A system you were dragged involuntarily into, literally screaming and crying. You're living that. Please pull your head out. And that ending lmfao:
A JPEG OF: fih. - literally just clips through a wall.
I picked this up for $2 years back and I'm upset I didn't play it sooner because now I cant refund it. Congrats to Mr. Szymanski for making a fortune and a cult following off of these people from a game that I would believe was made on a time crunch of 2 weeks. I liked Dusk but I'm going back to Crazy Frog Racer.
I'm sorry, but I do not understand the hype for this game. Extremely tedious gameplay with very little payoff. That being said, I love the atmosphere and graphics.
Maxed the game, watched the movie, left a positive review.
A very immersive game that I respect. So I recently just watched the Iron Lung movie, having played a bit of this game before but not finishing it. After having seen the movie it gave me the motivation to finally go back and finish the game so that’s something. I don’t watch Markiplier really but I have played a few of David Szymanski’s games. Dusk is obviously my favorite of his as it’s a great boomer shooter but even some of his short horror games like Fingerbones and A Wolf in Autumn are very effective for their short run time. So what did I think of this game? Right away this is a very immersive experience that's great to play at night with the lights turned off and headphones on. You are inside a sub for the whole game and you're sailing around an ocean of blood and taking pictures of 9 different points on the map. Navigation is also something that at first I found frustrating but once I learned how it works, it all clicked and I only died a couple of times from ramming into things. Each point on the map has a set of coordinates and you have to constantly consult the map as you move your ship in different directions until you get to your destination. The manhole is covered so the only way to know when you're close to something is the radar you have and the ability to take pictures of the outside. Thankfully too, you don’t have to be exactly on the money with the coordinates to take the correct picture and when you do, a green tick will appear on the map to notify you that point is done. The gameplay structure reminded me of something like Slenderman in that as you progress and take more pictures, more weird things start happening. The sound design really shines through. The music gets more and more eerie and you keep hearing the roars and moans of something outside which helps add to the horror factor. Also things in your ship will start happening like fires breaking out which you need to put out with a fire extinguisher and blood will begin to fill the sub. Not to mention your oxygen is slowly ticking down which adds pressure but not in a frustrating way. Also while I’m not really a fan of jump scares as I find them to be a cheap tactic in horror, this game has a couple of effective ones that got even me. As for the story, there’s not much of it but what’s there is good and the lore is very interesting. You get a brief intro set up at the start and theirs one note you can find in the sub that gives more context. Though I only found this out after I beat the game and was looking at guides to get the remaining achievements, the computer in the sub is actually interactable as you can type queries into it and certain keywords will give you more lore to read which I thought was cool. But ya can I recommend it? Honestly yes, but with some cavettes. It is a very short game so probably get it on sale, and there isn’t much gameplay overall. But it is a great short horror experience that I appreciate.
This is a boring 1 and half hour game that ends with a pretty terrible ending. Atmosphere is good and suspense too but this game is not good for the amount of time it takes to play it.
cool concept but bro does nothing with it, there is tension when you approach the anomaly picture but other than that theres not much. then beeg fish comes in. Its pretty overrated. Beat it in time for arefund doe heheeeh
Holy glazing Batman Cheap Jumpscares.... Maybe a little tension? boring stuff.... Disappointing.
After finishing MOLE I was craving something similar but with a heavy dose of claustrophobia & suspens. Oh man… if only I knew what I was getting myself into... Two straight hours of constant goosebumps, tensing up every single time before checking the developed photo. Even though the game looks pretty simple on the surface, it completely sucks you in and keeps you in a state of pure dread the entire time Spoiler:
The first time I saw something moving on the radar — getting closer and then instantly disappearing - I nearly jumped out of my skin. And that photo with the “eye”… ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I almost screamed out loud
The gameplay definitely isn’t for everyone. Navigating by coordinates and those early mistakes can be frustrating enough to make you want to quit. But trust me - push through it. Play it at night with the lights off. This game is absolute gold
