Atmospheric and immersive, fun puzzles, definitely worth checking out if you like this sort of thing
amazing adaptation of a classic game into VR. A must play!
I was quite motivated to try this game since it originates in non-VR game but I shouldn't have been. As in other VR games you get a special item that allows you to see something extra - in this a case a lantern that lets you see how the manor looked in the past, revealing hints or a nice decor. It can also fix things in your time. We are also led through the game by a kid who obviously doesn't have much patience and has to state the obvious while you are struggling with VR controls. The games visuals are mostly nice if you don't look at details or out of the window. I already knew the story and was wondering how it would be unveiled. One needs to find a a piece of paper with short narrative about Henry Stauf to get it. Otherwise we see flashbacks of all the guests throughout the game and that is nicely done. The puzzles themselves are varied, some are purely logical and I enjoyed those for sure and some are more tedious (bathroom and nursery) which I thought I would just give up on. The puzzles are usually themed based on for whom they were meant for or in which room they are. I think I would have enjoyed this game quite a lot if it weren't for the fact it was a VR game where trying to do anything was frustrating. If I omit the fact that I had hard time reaching anything and would have to literally enter the out of bounds area to reach, I had a hard time grabbing what I wanted and was accidentally grabbing other items or letting them go. The respawn happens fairly fast and where the item ends up can be quite a mystery (I've had items respawn inside other items). The game has obvious problems with collisions so things flying around or you being pushed around was not uncommon. While this can lead to a funny moment it can also add more frustration. I also had some puzzles that completely bugged out and was stuck for quite a while till I reset the puzzle quitting the game but that also led to some unfortunate black screens/voids. The game would launch but would just be black. I also had problems with the controllers getting stuck in wrong position (perpendicular to my hand) which meant more reloading and hoping for the game to launch. The ending was not glorious at all - we get to play a life size board game similar to Ludo with some special effects, there is something that can eat our tokens, we can take opponent's tokens, and there are also shortcuts. This game can get infuriating but not as much as Ludo since there is a strategy one can apply and wait for die rolls needed. Nonetheless the game can drag on for quite a long time and I surely wouldn't want to replay it. While I clicked I do not recommend, if you don't mind games that are buggy and can break and will actually get to launch the game, you may experience a nice atmospheric game. This is definitely one of the better games out there of this genre.
very cool game. it seys the tones for the story very well and ist too hard to figuer out where to go next
Good game. The performance was pretty dicey on my vive pro 2 (I basically had to let the game stutter like mad for several minutes before it would eventually calm down and play normally for the rest of the session) but aside from that the puzzles were entertaining, and the vibe was true to the original without being a copy of it. I don't have any idea how to fix the stuttering since it always stopped doing it after a little while (and would have been more hassle than it was worth to fix for a one shot sort of VR game) but it was good enough that the issues didn't stop me from completing the game.
