This is my first time reviewing a game, I felt that I needed to warn others of the games content. To summarise, the entire game feels like its in a tutorial with no real reward to combat or progression. You have no way of improving weapons and the games skill system is bland at best. Enemies and combat is also terribly balanced and you are essentially forced to rely on your sword... Mages beware ! mana (or spirit power) does not regenerate naturally and you must rely on mana crystals to restore your power, this would not be an issue if you could hold more than 4 at a time or if spells did not use such a large amount with little payoff... The spells do little damage and have until you reach ultimate magic and even then the mana cost vs damage output is lacking. Bowman beware ! a similar issue is faced in the fact you can only hold 12 arrows at a time and any refills are sparsely spread across the maps... Why you cant pick up missed shots from the ground or recover arrows from the fallen I do not know as again this forces you to fall back on your sword for the majority of combat. It takes approximately 3 arrows that are not headshots to kill the average enemy so you get between 4-12 between hunting for more arrows. Sneaky assassins beware ! stealth is very clunky and often times you will be caught after stealth killing your first enemy, though I will say that using a bow is fun for a stealth build as it lowers your risk of being caught however without the right perks you do not do enough damage and again run out of arrows quickly. Swordsman beware ! combat is clunky and dodging is laggy, you will also find that combos are a mess of smashing buttons and hoping the system recognises you are trying to pull of a combo but 6/10 times it does not and you are left swinging randomly.... Enemies also do a shed load for damage and stagger you constantly so good luck trying out your fancy combos! Story Lovers beware ! The story is terrible, poorly introduced, poorly explored and poorly executed. You are expected to go along with a lot of plot that is not explained to you including lots of details of kings, kingdoms, gods, races and other lore info that has random mentions and no real depth. Skill tree lovers beware ! You cant really create builds as the skill profession locks you out of specialising and forces you to spend more points than skills available on a single tree... Even if you wanted to specialise in archery or swordsmanship or magecraft you will have to pour numerous points into other trees before being able to then unlock higher level skills in your preferred tree. This seems poorly thought out as it essentially means all players are basically playing the same bland experience with no really customisation ALL IS NOT LOST ! The map design are very pretty and although a bit repetitive it can be a fun experience as you wander through the railroaded linear progression. I will also say that at higher levels the wacky ultimate magic can be fun even if ou do only get to use it a few times before going back to slashing into the void. Overall this is a poorly executed game that I do regret purchasing and hope this warning deters others from buying this game.
It feels quite fine and has a lot potentiel I think but there kinda is no meaning to the things you do. You have a locked character but you know nothing about yourself that indicates meaning to me as the player, just a lot big words but no feeling. Furthermore the combat is quite okay, I liked the bow gameplay, but I wished for more arrows. Killing enemies has no meaning either, they dont rly give any items of meaning and when they die they fall over, kinda feels like a beta or something like that.
[th] Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam. [/th]
Is this game a masterpiece? No, I don't think so. But I also enjoyed playing it, it is a cool action adventure with challenging combat and 3D platforming levels. It is an indie game, so don't expect the next Sekiro. There are two core elements - combat and 3D platforming. Add a bit of stealth, a few fancy spells and some small puzzles and you have a good idea what this game is about. Don't expect a large open-world, or you'll be disappointed. You just follow the path, kill enemies or sneak by them. Then you come in levels where only 3D platforming skills bring you to the exit. When you leave, the next foes await you to kill or sneak by. You play Aran, the King of the High Humans. You awake when a talking tree heals your wounds and tells you that you will become one with nature. It's a bit creepy, I would probably have run away in the wood, too. Aran runs away, the talking tree runs after Aran, and finally throws him down a cliff. You are alone for now, but have not relly escaped the talking tree for long, though. Aran may have lost most of his divine powers, but he can still can climb ropes und jump far away from them, run, dash backwards to get ot of danger, jump, crouch to hide and score stealth attacks from behind, and attack with normal and heavy swings. Shooting with the bow lets you adjust the stength. Aran has an insight ability to highlight enemies or loot in his field of view. Aran can even wallrun, and the game contains 3D platforming rooms. More abilities that open up some inaccessible parts of the world can be learned as you progress. Aran does take fall damage, and there are other environmental dangers as well. Inhaling poison for example is bad for your health. You fight deadly (fantasy) animals, you fight (former?) humans, you fight them in close combat or with ranged weapons (if you have enough arrows or mana). Every enemy has its weakness, and you should try to use that to your advantage. The timing is important to hit enemies, interrupt your foes with timed hits and they can't really harm you. Combat is actually quite fun and with some rather cool weapons, like exploding arrows. You can also learn interesting spells to annihilate your foes. Combat is hard, every opponent can kill you with only a few hits. Sometimes it is better to avoid fights and just sneak by, especially when additional enemies are in the vicinity. Fighting a bunch of them is very hard, at least in the beginning. The english version comes with a few grammar mistakes. There is a journal with a description of all the enemies you encountered so far, with all NPCs, items and also the tutorials. The quest book is rather well made and shows you a list of all open and finished quests with a nice descriptions. The character sheet shows our character (health/mana), his experience points, money, current level and the four spells he is prepared to cast. You can also access his kill tree here and learn new skills as soon as you have earned enough skill points. The description of the skills (perks) is quite detailled, even with a little movie explaining how each skill works. The inventory screen shows your stuff, also with a little description. All these menu screens are really well done. Consumables can be accessed via a comfortable wheel selection, light beacons allow you fast travel through the realm. Gamepad support seems to be fine, I played with my PlayStation 5 controller without problems, it even showed the PlayStation symbols. The game worked fine under 4K. Saving is automatically at checkpoints. If you die, you respawn at the last such point without penalty. Conclusion: Fantasy action adventure with Souls-inspired combat (of course far less sophisticated), 3D platforming and rather tubelike levels. Not an immortal masterpiece, but not that bad.
Huge mazes with instant-kill laser fences that could have just been teleport traps instead of killing you and triggering a reload. Primary way to interrupt an enemy in combat is with the second, and only the second, hit in your attack combo. Once you get a bow it can only carry 12 arrows at a time. Zero out of combat resource regeneration (health/mana). On controller, jump and sprint are default mapped to shoulder buttons? Why? Died to a boss? Next time you fight that boss you are starting the fight in their face with them possibly already in mid swing. Characters ramble from one plot element to the next with no clear reason why things would be connected. No method by which to manually save. An overall frustrating experience that I would not wish on anyone.
IDK WHY THIS GAME IS GETTING SO MANY BAD REVIEWS, IM HAVING A GOOD TIME WITH IT I CANT STOP TAKING SCREENSHOTS BECAUSE THE GRAPHICS ARE SO FKN GOOD give this game a chance, its creative, its visuals are beautiful, and the graphics are sexy and aesthetically pleasing, the game is fun, put it on the hardest mode and it will give a good challenge, i got the game on sale for $6.99, and am enjoying it, i think steam reviews are BS, i have played games that i didnt enjoy with lot of good reviews, and played games i enjoyed with lot of bad reviews
Boring, repetitive and uninspired. With it's non-stop flood of unskippable cutscenes and its directionless levels, it never really ramps up to a fun experience. Combat is both uninspired and repetitive, with hordes upon hordes of enemies descending upon you, while all the skills and tools you acquire seem focused on 1v1 combat. The melee distance of attacks is off by a mile, requiring you to be too close to the target, to the point where it's hard to telegraph enemies behaviours and react accordingly. The end result is a slog of tanking damage and spamming attacks, with the odd dash here and there. The darkness mechanic never really feels like anything more than a nuisance, turning the already slow and repetitive combat to a grinding halt. The core loop is uninspired and the game world is full of names that mean nothing to the player, even with the unslaught of lore heavy unskipabble cutscenes. This game needs to go back in the oven and rebuild itself in a way that it actually flows well. The ubisoft-esque skill tree needs some serious re-assessment and combat needs to be made a lot more responsive and a lot faster. It also needs to be much faster at giving you the Zelda-esque tools, so you can actually enjoy experimenting with them, something the game never lets you do. Levels are either long walking segments, frustrating puzzle dungeons or combat arenas, with no in-between. I would love to refund this game but its bevvy of unskippable cutscenes took it way beyond two hours to get a solid assessment. You will really never feel like going back for the treasure chests and sidequests because the rewards feel absolutely pointless, which when paired with the low exp you get from combat, translates into skipping most of the non-obligatory combat as much as possible, just to get to the next annoying af puzzle dungeon. Fighting the same stoney peasants and fat halflings can only carry you so much, and that is less than 8 hours. I will finish the game most likely due to how expensive it is, but please please please, stay away.
While there was clearly some effort made, particularly in the art department, this game suffers from a number of issues: - There is no map. It calls itself a metroidvania, a genre that typically involves a lot of exploration and backtracking, and you don't get a map. Even when teleporting between areas, you don't get to see a map of the world. All you get is an almost entirely useless compass. -Resources are very limited, especially early on, so while you have a bow and a wide range of spells you can learn, they are too awesome to use and must be conserved. Mana can only be recovered via consumable items, and arrows are relatively scarce. So you may as well only invest in your sword skills. -The hero is the most annoying character in the game. He talks all the time, often saying completely random things, screams "damn" all the time, and attempts to fill quiet spots b y rambling story tidbits as if he's talking to the player. -The game is extremely linear. While backtracking is occasionally needed, you're solely going back to collect some item or something you missed the first time because you didn't have the needed power yet. This is in contrast to other games in its genre where you revisit areas often and there is always a new path to take when you do. -The game suffers most of all from simply being criminally boring. There are way too many dead spots where there is nothing to do but walk to the next room. -The voice acting is horrible. Well, I don't want to be too hard on the voice actors themselves here. They were honestly just given terrible lines to read. That itself isn't surprising given that the English localization is so poor with tons of typos or bizzare phrasings. It's really hard to believe it's the primary langauge for the game (the only one with full audio). Pros? Well, the game looks pretty enough The music is okay too, if rather generic. The combat isn't terrible either, though it could still be a lot better. But I don't think that's enough to save it.
This is not so much a review as it is critical feedback for the developers of this game. I have played a lot of first and third person games. Of those I have thousands of hours in the world of The Elder Scrolls, those of Oblivion, Skyrim and Online. I will not compare it to those because I don’t believe that was the intent of the developers. Nevertheless, what I will provide feedback on is the following: 1. If you’re going to provide us with a bow, don’t restrict us by giving us a few arrows at a time. That forces those of us that like to play stealth into a primary play of melee. 2. Melee is need of a lot of improvement. For one the block mechanism functions poorly and there doesn’t appear to be a ways to accurate determine at what point you should execute the block function. Two, please give us a dodge that is easy to use. Let us dodge to the left, right, backward, or forward depending on what the need is at the time. 3. The gang up factor is a poor design in the early stages of the game. Especially, that area where you first display the hint concerning the color coding of the different levels of enemies. I had no arrows left so that was not an option. I tried different approaches including stealth and simply running ahead in hopes of finding a better place to take them on one-by-one. Nothing but more enemies ahead of course. After trying four times I gave up in frustration. 4. Give us more ways to adjust the battle strategically to what works for different game play styles. Not everyone plays these types of games the same way. Currently, the game forces you into one style of game play and if you’re not well suited for it. Well, you kind of lost your money. Now, for what I like: 1. I love the graphics, the scene settings, the story, and dialog. That is all done well I believe for a smaller development team. I haven’t gotten far enough to tell you much else, but I have watched a lot of videos of other people playing it. 2. I am okay with the linear story design if there’s a story worth engaging in to keep me interested and motivated to what to see how it all ends. I think that you’re doing that so far as I can tell. I won’t ask for a refund as I am taking the bet that you will address some of these issues. You’re in a competitive space concerning the design of the game so to gain respect and lots of good reviews you’re going to have to address some of the issues that are reasonable to consider or you’re likely to become a one game wonder meaning end of the road for your development group. Finally, I like a challenge to a game, but I also like it to be reasonably something that can be accomplished and enjoyed. I don’t want to get to the end of each area and wonder whether I care enough to experience that much frustration again. Remember, we play games to have fun and enjoy the experience. Not to see how high we can raise our blood pressure during each run. I look forward to seeing some patches to fix and address some of these issues. I am open to recommendations or guides as well but at this point. I am going to sit, not play it anymore until I see where it goes. Please make good use of my money and give me a return for the dollars I and anyone else who purchased it invested in your company.
This game is a pile of cow pasture patties. With no SELF SAVE option, you are at the mercy of developers auto saves. I died about 6 times getting thru a group of about 8 mobs. When I did get thru them and down the road I died to another group of mobs, the auto-save put me back to the beginning of fighting the 8 mobs which were all alive and well. I had already put in about 4 to 5 hours fighting the 8 mobs. Maybe some people like this type of game play. I don't . I don't play easy games, I like challenges. This game isn't a challenge, it's a time waster. nannerj.
