TLT is a tactical turn-based strategy game with simultaneous turns. Each encounter has you micromanaging a small team of specialized mercenaries in bite-sized time intervals as you try to plan for the most likely (and against the worst-case) move from the opposing side. The upshot of that is that you spend the vast majority of time simulating various scenarios you come up with and adjusting minute details of every single characters' every single move. It's not a game for everyone; on the contrary - the appeal is pretty evidently niche, but what it does it does really well. The single-player portion of the game consists of a single campaign, daily missions with leaderboards, and custom skirmishes against AI. Though the campaign doesn't dazzle with flashy cutscenes or extravagant storytelling, it is charming and humorous. It gives personality to characters that otherwise function as pure vessels for mechanics. A mix of simple mission types (point control, item collect, etc) adds to the novelty of the experience. Multiplayer comes in the asynchronous and live variety (with the latter having a strict limit on the time you have to make each round's choices). As of writing this review, there are still players online and likely willing to play. Even if everyone happens to be offline when you log on, all you need is someone willing to eventually accept your challenge, and you could then submit your turns separately at your individual leisure. The disappointment is front-loaded: if you're not into slow, cerebral puzzles and meticulous planning, this is not a game for you. If you try to rush things instead of thinking your moves through, you are going to end up with a handful of very dead mercs. This is a tactical game, not an action-packed shooter. If you're in for what it actually has to offer, you will probably have a good time (I know I did). If you're specifically looking for a game with simultaneous (rather than consecutive) turns, get it without hesitation. Other than Frozen Synapse, there are few alternatives out there anyway.
I always find the idea of this simultaneous tactical planning games (like Frozen Synapse) better than the execution. The planning phase is cumbersome and confusing, which makes playing and practicing enough to get good at the game a chore.

online players tend to go afk in game.....
Good, hilarious fun! Turn-based play means that it's a battle of wits and planning instead of a contest of reflexes. The replays are especially good, with destructible terrain collapsing and explosions blasting bodies sky-high.

Dead game Disappointed, no servers and very little to do if playing offline. They never thought this through... Without their servers active you can't even play a decent single player match as profiles are lost after servers went down.
