Tanglewood

First I gotta give kudos to the devs for making a game for the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis and porting it to PC, I think it's really impressive, as opposed to making it simply retro-styled. Tanglewood is an eerie platformer game. You'll find yourself traversing locations around Tanglewood that start in the bright and comfortable daytime that becomes unnerving and dangerous by nightfall. The art style is beautiful, both between the cover art and the game art style, it's really impressive, even though the little fuzzballs still confuse me what they are besides giving Nymn, our fox protagonist, special powers to overcome the challenges that Tanglewood presents. The music is fantastic and the game knows how to capture the atmosphere of the world, from the natural forest life to the intense scenes when you're chased by the creatures of the night. Controls occasionally throw me off but it doesn't take a lot to get used to what is jump, what does actions and what lets you use powers (when you use them.) Mechanically, the game works although at times I feel the hitboxes for certain enemies attacking you are a bit generous for them when they get you. That besides, the puzzles are decent and is commonly your means of progress but they do get a tad tiresome after a while. The story is pretty straight forward, Nymn is traversing the forest after being separated from the pack to find a new home and hopefully unite with others of its kin. The game doesn't have a life system, which is a blessing in disguise for some stages which might have you repeating them multiple times. The game features collectibles, passwords accessible at any time on the pause screen and two endings. In short, I feel this game is quite underrated and I certainly recommend others to give this title a try!

This game is really fun and challenging, there is no death that makes you feel it was unfair. The artwork is beautiful, and for a game with no dialog the story is well delivered and the characters are lovely. I replayed the game just to get all the fireflies and it was totally worth it!, it has a lot of replayability value IMO and if my toaster can run it everything can.

Tanglewood ha sido una experiencia de juego muy bonita y encantadora! es un juego con un estilo muy especial y lo he disfrutado muchísimo jugando lo. su estilo gráfico recuerda mucho al estilo de los juegos de la sega genesis y es mas hasta su hardware es el mismo, y la historia es sencilla pero funciona muy bien: ayudar y guiar a Nymn para que llegue a su hogar nuevamente atreves de un bosque lleno de peligros pero eso no sera un problema para Nymn! ella pose unas habilidades que la ayudaran a afrontar esos peligros de una forma mas eficaz y a todo esto. la banda sonora es muy hermosa, dicho todo esto Tanglewood es un juego muy especial para mi y es un juego muy recomendado!! vale totalmente la pena la compra por este grandioso juego ^^💛　

It's a great puzzle platformer that's not too difficult but is somewhat challenging. It's pretty comfy, the visuals are great in all their 16-bit glory and the soundtracks fit perfectly. The controls are decent and the emulation works flawlessly.

Ecco the Dolphox Do you like 16 bit platformers? Do you like 16 bit puzzlers? If you answered yes to either of those then you should give this game a try. Completed it on my SEGA Genesis using an Everdrive (purchasing on Steam includes a Genesis Rom), but fired it up for a minute on PC so I could leave this review.

This game feels so nostalgic, as if I've had played this in my childhood. So I've given myself the task of playing and finishing this game every year at Christmas period. At the time of writing I've finished the game 3 times already and i'm gonna keep doing it. On my first playthrough in 2020 i got the bad ending, i told myself to get the good ending on the next Christmas in 2021 It felt so good getting the good ending after a year's wait.

I'm only halfway through the game, but I just felt like sharing. Tanglewood is a beautiful classic-style action/puzzle/platformer with very tight controls and perfectly paced mechanic introduction. If I were to describe it in a few words, I would say that it's 'highly focused and charmingly simple.' It's worth mentioning, too, that the game introduces an AI partner early on. And, unlike what you might expect from an old genesis game, the AI mechanics are dependable (and fun). I truly love this game and I hope it finds a larger audience in the future. I think it has a lot of potential as a speedrunning game, especially if more exploits are found than are currently known. Also, if you're using a Playstation or Xbox controller, you'll probably want to change the controls. The game puts a little bit too much on the thumbs.
