Tangled Up! is just okay. It's not horrible, but it's not good either. Pick it up on sale. MEH
Tangled Up! is a thoughtfully designed indie puzzle game developed and published by 2Pi Interactivee Pvt. Ltd. that centers its entire experience on a single, distinctive idea: manipulating opposing electrical charges to untangle a chaotic mess of connections and bring two characters back together. Rather than leaning on speed or reflex-driven gameplay, the title focuses on logic, spatial awareness, and an understanding of cause-and-effect, making it a game that rewards patience and deliberate experimentation. The core mechanic revolves around two living charges—one positive and one negative—connected by a tangled wire. As expected, opposite charges attract while like charges repel, and nearly every puzzle is built around creatively exploiting these simple rules. Early stages introduce the concept in a clean, intuitive way, allowing players to grasp the fundamentals without overwhelming complexity. As the game progresses, additional elements such as insulators, conductors, obstacles, and directional helpers are layered in, gradually expanding the puzzle vocabulary and pushing players to think several moves ahead rather than relying on trial and error alone. Level design is one of Tangled Up!’s more ambitious aspects. With roughly 180 levels spread across multiple modes, the game offers a substantial amount of content for a small-scale puzzle title. Each set of stages introduces new twists on familiar mechanics, ensuring that puzzles rarely feel identical even when they reuse core ideas. Some levels emphasize precise positioning, others require careful timing so that both charges reach their destination simultaneously, and a handful challenge players to minimize moves or optimize solutions. This variety helps keep the experience engaging over long play sessions, especially for players who enjoy gradual escalation in difficulty. Visually, the game adopts a bright, stylized 2D aesthetic that favors clarity over complexity. Characters, wires, and interactive objects are immediately readable, which is essential in a game where understanding spatial relationships is the key to success. The environments are colorful and playful without becoming distracting, creating a lighthearted tone that contrasts nicely with the sometimes demanding mental effort required to solve later puzzles. While the presentation is modest by modern standards, it fits the game’s design goals and keeps the focus squarely on problem-solving. Sound design and music play a supporting role rather than a leading one. Background tracks are gentle and unobtrusive, helping maintain concentration during longer puzzle-solving sessions. Audio cues reinforce actions like movement, collisions, or successful connections, offering subtle feedback without breaking immersion. The restrained approach works well, as the game’s appeal lies in quiet contemplation rather than dramatic audiovisual flair. The difficulty curve is where Tangled Up! becomes more divisive. Early and mid-game puzzles are generally well-balanced, offering clear logic and satisfying “aha” moments when solutions click into place. However, later stages can feel uneven, occasionally shifting away from pure logic toward precise timing or narrow solution windows. For some players, this adds tension and challenge; for others, it undermines the cerebral appeal established earlier by introducing frustration that feels less intellectually rewarding. Replay value comes primarily from completionist goals and personal satisfaction rather than branching paths or procedural variety. Optional collectibles and different modes provide reasons to revisit stages, and players who enjoy optimizing solutions may find satisfaction in refining their approaches. Still, the experience is largely linear, and once all puzzles are solved, there is little incentive to return beyond mastery for its own sake. Ultimately, Tangled Up! is a game built around a clear and creative idea, and it succeeds most when it leans into thoughtful, physics-inspired puzzle design. Its strengths lie in originality, quantity of content, and a willingness to trust players to think rather than react. While its uneven difficulty spikes and limited audiovisual ambition may prevent it from standing alongside the most polished puzzle classics, it remains an earnest and engaging entry in the genre. For players who enjoy methodical problem-solving, experimental mechanics, and indie puzzle games that value ideas over spectacle, Tangled Up! offers a long, mentally stimulating experience that is worth untangling. Rating: 6/10
It's not "bad" bad, especially for low price, but it feels like it was ported from mobile, and it definitely didn't age well. No 16:9 resolution support, weird "hint/spin" mechanics which doesn't make sense. Level loading times/animations are way longer than what they should be, and since you don't have "undo" in-game, you need to re-load the level to hard restart.
