As soon as I saw a "Solomon's Key" clone I was excited. I have the actual video game in a cocktail cabinet so I'm definitely an addict. I could have got this on my phone free with "In App Purchases" but we all know what that means and my in app purchases always total ZERO. I also don't think a phone screen does a game justice. Imagine my excitement when I saw this on steam with "PARTIAL CONTROLLER SUPPORT". Purchased. $5.00 well spent. You think so...... Now, keep in mind this was a mobile phone game ported to Steam..... Well, partial controller support turned out to be remapping your keyboard. The keys cannot be remapped on your controller and you are stuck with a convoluted control structure that does NOT make any sense to anyone who plays Solomon's Key. On the Xbox 360 controller, your direction is controlled by the direction pad which would be tollerable if you could just change the up key. As I just could not get my head around the controller, I moved to the keyboard. I remapped the jump key to the up arrow, the standard control for Solomon's key, and this is why you need proper controller support. You need to be able to move up/down and left/right at the same time and the simplest way is with an 8 way controller. Well, actually, it is the logical way. NOT HERE. The jump key (remapped to up arrow) indiscriminately causes blocks to appear even though I have not mapped it to do so. The target icon (or whatever it is) appears all over the place (clearly a throwback from the phone game) and serves no purpose except to confuse. The lazy phone swipe references haven't even been updated for the pc. After stage 1, level 3 the line directs me to level 7. WTF? When you click the star icon on the main screen you are sent to the Google Play website (THIS IS UNFORGIVABLE). If you can't port this to the pc properly with decent remapable controller support when you state it on your store page, you don't deserve to be paid. This sort of half arsed attempt at a cash grab pisses me off no end and to be sent to Google to rate it (I assume) was the last straw. P*ss poor. Give it a miss. Chook Fowler.
Ghost Sweeper has the potential to be a cute and fun little game, but it's not quite there yet. It has the graphics and gameplay - two of the several things that makes a game good. Unfortunately however, it's lacking a lot in most other departments. Some text on the main menu for instance would be nice; leaving your players guessing before they even get to the actual game is never a nice thing. But what irks me the most is probably the end screen, which blatantly says "Touch to go". Touch. Now this may sound nitpicky considering how simple and miniscule it seems to many, but things like this always bother me big time. When games are 'transferred' from mobile to phone and they retain things that only make sense on mobile, it gives me the impression of laziness; and I strongly dislike that. Some achievements would do wonders too in separating mobile version from the PC version, while helping the game to stand out more and make people feel they are getting their money's worth. I want the game to be good, I really do; but it's just not quite there yet. I'm leaving a positive review because I believe in potential; I don't like shooting things down so easily. Many of my complaints are easily fixable, I feel - and considering how new this game seems to be, there are a plenty of time to fix things and make Ghost Sweeper the entertaining game it could have been.
If you've ever played Solomon's Key on NES, it's pretty much the same.
Fun game with cute graphics. Has some original game mechanics ,controls take a few minutes to figure out ,you can also change them in the options menu if you don't like the setup . I wish it had a more detailed explantion of what is what though i suppose you will gradually understand as you progress. You have weapons that run out of power if u use them too much ,you pick up gold coins and solve puzzles along the way while avoiding death by the constantly prowling ghosts. You can also make stepping stones appear or disappear as you need them, Clever little game and not as easy as you first think.
Its a fun game but the menu sucks. You have to use a mouse too much from changing levels etc, this is some lazy porting from a tablet to PC. If more work was done so it had full controller support, I'd recommend it. As is its just more frusration that the enjoyment.
Ghost Sweeper may look plain and effortless but the maps are well designed. The controls may be changed to suit the player as well. The game provides a simple tutorial in one of the menus which is pretty handy. There are carefully placed traps which are tricky to deal with and you may have to do a bit of thinking and reflexes to get the items on the map. A wrong move can easily result in death. It's a refreshing twist to the typical platformer as it includes bridge building/clearing mechanics to clear the stage. 8/10
Ghost Sweeper is a really nice puzzle shooter. It reminds me of the old arcade game Solomon's Key. The graphics are nice and cartoony and the overall level design is very good. There is a lot of gameplay here, for a very good price.
A really nice game 2d classic adventure which you have to do some puzzle task and manuever the correct way to reach your goal. The game comes with nice preview of everything, good sound/music, graphics, very cute(characters, enemies, weapons, etc). Has a good port and everything works as it is like sound, controls, fullscreen, music, etc. This game is simple but have alot of fun for only 38mb of download. About the gameplay I enjoyed playing killing enemies, moving out, trying to figured out how to get safe grabbing stuff and coins to increase my loot and reach to the goal which is the door. This game is as it looks at it fun and more. I would recommend this game for anyone. Rate would be 9+.
