The core combat system has a ton of depth, but the rock, paper, scissors nature of it makes it feel shallower than it is for large portions of the game. The way the skills on equipment work is among the worst mechanics I've come across in any game. The story is fine, but far from the highs of some of the series. The cutscenes are gorgeous and the models in the skits are appealing too, but the way characters move on the field outside of battle is a little clunky and the game seems uglier than it should considering how recently it came out. It's not an awful game, but for how long it takes to complete and how many better Tales games there are I can't recommend it.
🎮 Reseña de Tales of Zestiria

[th]Aspecto[/th][th]Puntuación (0-10)[/th][th]Comentario[/th]

Jugabilidad7Acción JRPG entretenida, aunque no siempre fina.

Dificultad / IA6Balance y compañeros a veces… creativos.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 13: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Battle System
The battle system in most tales games get repetitive - as do most jrpgs - but in tales of Zesteria it honestly was just frustrating most of the time. Pre-programmed combos that you couldn't change were extremely frustrating for the reason that the way they executed in game could feel very janky. I understand they were trying to change the Tales formula and were trying different things, but this in particular just felt like an untested combat system that wasn't played very extensively. Even if the battle system had been bad but all other aspects of the game had been good, I would not have minded so much. That is not the case sadly, as it was just one of many things I disliked.
Characters
The most interesting character in this entire series wasn't someone even in the party or even someone you meet, but someone you see the story of in flashbacks. I will not spoil that for people who are interested in the game. The main party is full of undeveloped one-dimensional characters that are given next to no actual story or character development. Sorey the protagonist can be simplified down to "Do good and be good for everyone." There is not really any morale dilemma because the hellions that are the enemies can either be purified or not - and its not a decision that he makes. In fact when it becomes his decisions - its taken away from him by another character entirely and that is the biggest cop out of a hard decision in any game ever. I would not say I dislike Sorey - hes just a good natured dude - but that is literally all there is to him. Alisha. If you read enough reviews I am sure you have already seen the issues with her. Overall my opinion of Alisha is this: They should have to made it appear she was an important character when she is hardly in the game. Spending a decent amount of time on a character only to literally never be able to interact or use her again is a giant waste of time in terms of story and player investment. It would have been better if she had instead died and then you were forced to gain Rose instead. But the inevitably of her having to follow her responsibilities should have meant she stayed a hard NPC away from the party. Rose was introduced as a compelling character who was considered free of malevolence despite the actions she took. This was intruging but it was barely expanded upon with her making the exact same choices throughout the rest of the story. There was never any real dilemma or change to the antagonists that made her question what she was doing or have Sorey and her really talk about their difference in opinions and of the world. Her morale stand point should have been a big point of discussion between them, because if Sorey really as okay with her and what she did - he should have no problem following the same. Instead you get Sorey just nodding and saying okay and thats the end of that intriguing plot point. Overall everyone as super one-dimensional and even after 45 hours I felt nothing for the characters.
Story Line
A setting of a war torn continent where the protagonist and the party do not choose sides is not a unique or new story - but that does not mean it is boring. When executed well having characters be forced into the horrors of war while trying to maintain their own beliefs while fighting those that would oppose them, or even those merely fighting for survival can tug at heartstrings. Like the rest of this game it was poorly executed with no depth to the story. This part of the story merely boils down to "War is bad" and never even once expands upon WHY Rolance and Hyland are even going to war. Sure there was the specific issue that is addressed in Rolance's capital of Pendragon, but according to the game, these two nations have been constantly at war, so why is that never talked about. Also if they were fighting for resources, why is the area they fight for - the battlefield in this case a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ desert. The desert holds no resources for anyone, and it could be argued that it was a coincidence that it was the no-mans land between the two regions but that is lazy writing. The war of the nations aside, the other half of the story focuses on the supposed giant source of malevolence in the world. I will attempt to not spoil anything as this is later in the game as is the things I will mention. The creation of this point of malevolence is the best thing about the game. It is a very sad and horrifying story that pulls the player in with the sheer shock and horror of the actions of a couple of people in the story. The resolution of this problem - to defeat the source of malevolence is again not an option. There is only one thing to do - and the story makes it seem as if Sorey has to overcome a large hurdle with this. It is the same as every other antagonist just at a larger scale, there is not other resolution, issue or conflict that the party has to address. It is the same basic copy, paste and repeat procedure. Malevolence = bad, The Shepard = Purify, and if that cannot be done then Kill. Done end of story. Nothing else. There are also a couple plot twists that are added could have been very good, but once again overall poor execution of them. They left too many plot holes, and brought more questions than solutions to anything.
Final Comments
Tales of Zesteria lacks quite literally everything. The battle system is medicore at best. The characters are one-dimensional and flat with no progression and character development. I formed zero attachment to a single person, and it does not even seem like the characters grew to really know each other. With pre-exisiting relationships present they are never expanded upon aside form random side talks that you never see. The plot line is horrendous, it had a good premise but was put into reality so poorly that I in fact went and looked at a playthrough for the last chapter of the game because I could no longer bare to play this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. I play tons of RPGS and this has been the MOST disappointing one in my entire gaming history by far.
