Kurzfazit:

My Score 👍 80%
(METACRITIC 86%)

So hätte schon Episode 1 der TALES-Reihe aussehen sollen!

[th] 🔹 Facts 🧐☝️[/th]

Trivia, Nerdwissen, Fachsimpeln,...

Gehören also zum Kanon.
Leuchtquallen. Und andere Lichtquellen. Alles mögliche was eben farbiges Licht erzeugt :-)

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3494050169

[th] 🔹 Sound 🎼[/th]

[th] 🔹 Gameplay 🕹️[/th]

Steuerung, Gameplay, Gamepad, Mouse,...

The first chapter was already strong, but this installment is a clear step up. The change of setting enhances the experience, with a captivating atmosphere brought to life through stunning visuals, beautiful music, and well designed new characters. The puzzles are cleverly crafted and often amusing, offering a real sense of satisfaction when solved. And, of course, the story remains compelling and engaging throughout.
Tales of Monkey Island Complete Pack: Chapter 2 – The Siege of Spinner Cay, developed and published by Telltale Games, serves as a pivotal middle chapter in the episodic pirate adventure, expanding both the narrative scope and gameplay structure established in the opening episode. Continuing the story of Guybrush Threepwood’s attempt to contain the spreading voodoo pox, this installment sends him to the scattered islands of the Jerkbait archipelago in search of a legendary sea sponge said to hold the cure. While the premise sounds straightforward, the episode quickly reveals itself to be more about complication than resolution, layering new characters, conflicts, and narrative threads that deepen the overall story rather than neatly advancing it. One of the most memorable aspects of this chapter is its character work, particularly the introduction of Morgan LeFlay. Her arrival adds a new dynamic to the story, presenting a character who is both an admirer of Guybrush’s exploits and a determined adversary in her own right. This duality creates an engaging tension that carries much of the episode’s emotional weight. The writing retains the series’ signature humor, blending absurd dialogue, clever wordplay, and situational comedy with moments of genuine intrigue. However, unlike the first chapter, this episode leans more heavily into setup, building relationships and conflicts that will pay off later rather than delivering immediate narrative satisfaction. Structurally, The Siege of Spinner Cay shifts toward a more open design, giving players access to multiple islands that can be explored in a less linear order. This change introduces a greater sense of freedom, allowing players to approach objectives in different ways and discover solutions at their own pace. The archipelago setting helps reinforce this, with each island offering its own small set of challenges and interactions. At the same time, this openness comes with trade-offs. Frequent travel between locations can interrupt the flow of the experience, and the need to revisit areas multiple times can make progression feel slower than intended. The result is a structure that feels more expansive but occasionally less focused. Puzzle design reflects this broader approach, offering a mix of traditional inventory-based challenges and more situational problem-solving. Some puzzles benefit from the non-linear structure, allowing players to experiment with different solutions and piece together information across multiple locations. Others, however, can feel less intuitive, relying on logic that is not always clearly communicated. This inconsistency can lead to moments of frustration, particularly when the solution depends on a specific interaction that is easy to overlook. While the game does capture some of the spirit of classic adventure design, it also highlights the difficulty of balancing accessibility with complexity. Gameplay remains consistent with Telltale’s approach to the genre during this period, combining exploration, dialogue, and puzzle-solving within a semi-3D environment. The control scheme, which relies on a more direct movement system rather than traditional point-and-click navigation, continues to feel somewhat awkward, especially in tighter spaces or when precision is required. Despite this, the overall gameplay loop remains engaging enough, particularly for players who enjoy taking their time to explore and experiment. The emphasis is clearly on the journey rather than on mechanical refinement, which aligns with the series’ narrative focus. Visually, the episode builds on the stylized presentation of the first chapter, offering colorful environments that capture the whimsical tone of the Monkey Island universe. The island settings provide a welcome sense of variety, from sandy shores to more exotic and mysterious locations, helping to keep the visual experience fresh despite the episodic format. Character models and animations show modest improvements, though they still reflect the technical limitations of the time. The audio design, on the other hand, remains a strong point, with lively music and solid voice performances that bring the characters and world to life. As a standalone experience, The Siege of Spinner Cay can feel somewhat incomplete. Its role as a middle chapter means that many of its narrative threads are left unresolved, and its primary function is to build toward future developments rather than deliver a self-contained story. This can make the episode feel less impactful when viewed in isolation, as it lacks the clear arc and resolution that define stronger individual entries. However, when considered as part of the larger series, its contributions become more apparent, as it lays important groundwork for the chapters that follow. Ultimately, this episode succeeds in expanding the world and deepening the narrative, even if it does so at the expense of pacing and cohesion. It retains the charm, humor, and adventurous spirit that define the Monkey Island series while experimenting with a more open structure that does not always fully come together. For fans of the franchise, it remains an enjoyable and important installment, offering memorable characters and moments despite its uneven execution. While it may not stand out as the strongest chapter on its own, it plays a crucial role in shaping the overall experience of Tales of Monkey Island. Rating: 8/10
This is a review for all five chapters of the game Tales of Monkey Island, which is a 3D point & click adventure in the very long Monkey Island series (Secret of Monkey Island was the first PC game that I ever played, 35 years ago). The voice acting, the 3D graphics, the visual and spoken humour, and the sheer imagination of the developers, are all superb and very enjoyable. I quickly found myself back in the familiar and happy/silly/pirate-y waters of the Caribbean with Guybrush, Elaine, LeChuck, and others. But I have some reservations about the plot and associated puzzles. For the first couple of chapters I managed to work out nearly all of the puzzles myself, but in later chapters, as the puzzles became more involved but less intuitive (in my view), I increasingly struggled to progress without the use of a guide. One other frustration was the amount of tedious walking/running in the 3D world e.g. around the towns, around the woods, and - especially - around the underworld in the final chapter to move between portals/rips; better map shortcuts would have been very welcome. My play time across the five chapters was more than 23 hours for a total cost of UK £2.27, so, even allowing for the delays caused by the more obscure puzzles etc, I have no complaints about value for money. In summary, I had a very good time with the game, though some parts of its plot, puzzles and movement mechanics could have been tightened and improved. Farewell (until next time), Mighty Pirate!
Good
Good humor but some of the puzzles felt super unintuitive at times and you would get stuck for a very long time. Also it was easy to miss some items cause they blended in to the environment (like the bucket). Still even with those issues, it was a enjoyable chapter and worth playing!
