Virtual Villagers: A New Home

I was gifted this game by a friend and am happy I got to relive my childhood nostalgia and finally beat the game. However, this game is available on the Virtual Villagers website for free, so I think that it shouldn't be sold on Steam at the currently listed price. Also, after replaying it I admit it's not as fun as I remembered it being as a kid, but I am happy to finally complete all the achievements and mark it off my list.

If for some reason you're looking at this review you don't need me to tell you what this game is, you already know you played it on your mom's computer 20 years ago and now here you are reliving your childhood, have fun.

Peak classic nostalgia. But also the entire virtual villagers series and other games from them are free now on the last day of work website :)

So the game it self is fine, my problem is with the fact that this game did nothing to update to modern hardware. Here are all the issues I found It doesn't have an icon for the shortcut on your desktop leaving it as the default blank piece of paper. The full screen stretches the image and there is no option to choose what monitor size you'd like. If you have 2 monitors and want to play full screen it will boot every other open program to the secondary monitor. If your full screen and you minimize the program and come back the game will have a green filter over it, notable because this game is a idle type game, and you will have to close and re open to get it back to normal or turn off full screen mode. The 3 above points pretty much mean you have to turn off full screen mode if you want to play this game. Now for the worst part and thing I wish I knew before buying, this game has been publish for FREE on their official website, and it even fixed the full screen issues, so I don't understand why there is a worse paid version on steam

Plays just like it did way back when. Such a fun retro game to enjoy and pass the time.

Always fun to leave game, come back later on in the week, and all villagers are skeletons. 10/10

Might be biased - it's a staple childhood game for me. Loved playing it again after a 10 yr break. Nothing too spectacular compared to today's masterpieces, but it still has a special place in my heart. Great simulation game that requires patience in comparison to our daily brainrot content consumption in the big 2026.

Its a fun game, super simple game play. I do wish here were more end game things to do. Once you solve all the puzzles theres nothing else to do
