About
Viscerafest is a sci-fi fantasy single-player arena FPS where you take the role of Caroline, a bloodthirsty, psychopathic mercenary who wants nothing more than to marry her wonderful boyfriend, Athens Fetter. The problem is money's tight, and rings aren't exactly cheap. But thankfully, there may yet be hope for her, as a warlock named Cromune has acquired a rather hefty bounty on his head.
Bringing his corpse in to the respective authorities won't be an easy task however, as Cromune has a small army defending him. Forces from the U.S.C. (United Scientific Conglomerate) led by Dr Mortice stand shoulder to shoulder with the religious zealot. But what’s a few hundred soldiers to death incarnate? Nothing but a slaughter... Nay... A Viscerafest!
Navigate hand-crafted levels stuffed to the brim with secrets, using key cards, completing puzzles, and accomplishing a variety of objectives to progress. All this is set in a vast array of locations, from a space station looming high above the Earth to realms shifting beyond our reality.
Wield 9 unique and powerful weapons, from staples of the genre like the "Bunker Buster," a double-barreled shotgun that fires explosive rounds, to the more unique and offbeat guns, such as the Plague Rifle.
Slaughter over 27 different Enemy Types and up to 7 Bosses, from the minor grunts who make up the U.S.C's forces to monsters beyond your ability to comprehend, such as the horrifying Maledict. New enemy types are introduced in almost every level, each compounding the challenges you'll face with a wide variety of attacks and behaviors.
Juggle your resources as you fight to stay alive, constantly balancing your use of ammo, health, and armor.
Move at the speed of light, chaining Bunny Hopping and Dashing together to move at speeds no man would dream of, and with your overbearing Air Control, dance around projectiles like no other.
Collect tons of goodies to unlock Gameplay Modifiers and Cheats to spice up your playthroughs, with such staples as "Viscerahot," where time slows as you Bunny Hop, or "Oops All Cultists," where your dreams of being torn apart by the hitscanning occult can be made a reality.

Doom Eternal and its consequences have been a disaster for the FPS genre. You don't need to have health that shreds so fast that the only way to keep yourself alive in a fight is to approach the blinking bodies of defeated enemies and finger them to death just to recover some morsels.
[Intro] A game called Viscerafest invokes a gameplay loop which is drastically different than the one actually in the game. If this game had a true title, it should be called "extremely limited ammo scrounging fest". [Graphics] They're the kind of cute pixellated old 3D sprite era graphics we all know and love. However, I question the decision of making a lot of things seem like they're interactable, only to not have it be so. Also, someone really needs to explain to new players that the green things on a stick are actually SWITCHES, because they look like lamps at this low resolution. The game needs a clarity pass when it comes to the interactables because with lower resolution comes a deeper need for graphics to be clear and indicative. [Sound] The music soundtrack is epic. The voice actors are on point, the main character VA is KILLING IT, damn fine work! [Gameplay] Viscerafest in terms of gameplay is a production that just doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it an arena shooter? No, you don't have enough ammo for that. Is it an Arena melee brawler? No, you only have your fists and a basic attack with zero parrying abilities. Is it a finesse dodge and weave fighter game? No, it's too fast, the enemies will straight up shoot your face the second you engage. Is it a tactical game? Only in so much that you're expected to avoid shooting enemies with shields and shoot them when they're lowered. Is it a slower game? Let me take you through the arena fight loop here: 1) You enter a room, the numerous enemies shoot at you. Some have shields raised, others are engaging at melee distance. 2) You take out the melee distance to give you some breathing room while the ranged ones attack you. 3) You decide to engage the ranged ones, you waste the precious little ammo you have because you hit their shields, so you're forced to rush them. 4) They shoot your face when you rush them, if you miss the opportunity to hit them with the melee, they shoot you. 5) You still have more enemies attacking you with ranged, you now have to run around and punch them also. There's other niggling annoyances too, such as limited save points, which makes repeating the tedious arena fights even more aggravating. There's also the fact that the levels are sprawling with key hunting elements, which in a normal shooter would be fine, but here it just feels like you're being led from one tedious arena fight to another. Then there's the fact that you don't get to visit the hub between levels either, which makes the whole point of collecting the currency in the game a moot point as you'll rarely upgrade or change anything. This is not an FPS. It's a very basic melee brawler with hints of gunplay. [Summary] This was not my cup of tea, I'm refunding this on the basis that there was no indication that shooting things would happen once in ten minutes time of playing, while you punch the rest of the time.
Good effort if your idea of fun is searching for the right door. i thought this was a fast paced shooter not a "where the ♥♥♥♥ do I go?" kind of game.
I want to like this game, but it really lacks proper synergy between the c mechanics. You barely get any ammo in this "shooter", you are encouraged to hop around everywhere both for a damage resist bonus and to move fast in order to melee smaller enemies to conserve ammo, but doing so really sacrifices your ability to move and aim as precisely while also launching you headfirst into danger and not letting you process what's going on in the fight environments, plus the melee-able enemies are ridiculously small and nearly impossible to punch when you are in the air from jumping. It's also surprisingly difficult to tell a lot of enemies apart during all the action because so many use the same color scheme and style. Viscerafest shouldn't try to be a fast-paced shooter if this is the best it can manage.
A Love Story
I was really into this game for the first 2 chapters. Playing on the "hard" difficulty was challenging, but every death felt like I could have approached the room better, and upon doing so, I was right. This game is certainly a labor or love; a passion project of someone who loves the boomer shooters of old. The problem is that knowing and loving those games and making your own are 2 entirely different things. The longer you play this game, the more the issues become glaring. Ammo is just not readily available enough. You can't call your game a shooter and then expect your players to use the boring and pathetic melee attack for over half the campaign. Despite getting decent at scrounging ammo, chapter 3 decides to throw some of the most obnoxious, bullet spongey enemies that have the capability to decimate your health in mere seconds in every room. There's simply not enough ammo to deal with every threat. Maybe on easier difficulties this is less of an issue, but if there are 3 difficulty levels above the one I played that would be presumably worse, it's inexcusable. What pains me the most is that the level of detail in the story is so good. The surprise horror elements are extremely well done. Almost no bugs or technical errors. Level design itself is great, the enemies you fight are mostly pretty interesting. However, limiting your ammo to the extent that you softlock yourself and have to restart is just not fun. No matter what realm you're in. Patch the game with more ammo and I'll see about trying again.
Half of my playtime was spent looking for keys or doors in a labyrinthine maze of generic and geometric space station hallways. Literally plays like a crappy Doom wad. You'd legitimately have a better time playing some of the sci-fi/cyberpunk map packs for Quake or Doom than this slog. The female protagonist is cool though. This game just definitely isn't worth 20 bones.
My personnal game of the year 2025 It plays differently than most boomer shooter so there is a learning curve at the begining, but once it click it's an absolutely fantastic experience
43.5 hours played / Finished campaign and explored side content The Good:

Adrenaline-pumped and melodic soundtrack that will guarantee a really fun experience;
Fast-paced, tight and responsive combat;
Gorgeous aesthetics that will appeal to anyone interested in retro-styled games;
Rewarding exploration with meaningful secrets;
The story is interesting, to say the least, and contains various bits that expand on the lore in some way or another.
The Bad:

Certain enemy types are straight up annoying to fight against due to their positioning/attack type;
Controls are good but require some time to get used to as it's not a traditional FPS experience, mechanics-wise;
Some sections of the maps have confusing layouts and can kill the pace rather easily.
Highlights:

As mentioned previously, the game has a really good soundtrack that enriches the gameplay quite substantially;
When properly mastered, the player controls can become an ultimate weapon against any foe that stands in the player's way.
Performance Notes: The game works great, without any noticeable hiccups. Price/Value Thoughts: For 20€ you get an A+ experience. Verdict: Recommended. Viscerafest is a charming first-person shooter with a strong emphasis on fast movement and short reaction time. It tries its best to combine the best elements of all classic FPS games into one package with its own mechanics on top, and it does that perfectly. One should note that it's not so easy to master all the controls but once the player gets well‑acquainted with them, the game becomes a cakewalk. All in all, an unforgettable experience with a solid soundtrack on top of that.
