a nice old classic game, but the first take command was even better in custom game mode.
Fantastic game. I have played Scourge of War Waterloo some and have recently been playing a lot of Grand Tactician:The Civil War, but somehow never noticed this game until very recently. It is exactly the type of game I want and I already know I will spend many hours on it. My only wish is that more battles would be made(Edit: I have now purchased Scourge of war Gettysburg, but still wish all the major battles were on the Take Command System). Controlling different levels of command is such a cool idea. The AI is top notch too especially when considering how old the game is. I played the first level 3 times and the battle played out 3 different ways depending on what I tried. That is when I knew I'd love this game. 10/10 game. Must buy if you are into Civil War Strategy.
Can create a real feeling of panic when your depending on the AI to hold up on their flank whilst trying to hold your own!! Overall great fun : )
grate game
This game grabbed me by the balls. One month and nearly 60 hours of first playing I still think of this game near constantly. I hope to god SoW finds its way back to us.
One of the finest games I have ever played. Had many hours of exhilarating combat with this game. Unfortunately, it doesn't work - or at least I couldn't make it work - on Windows 11. Cursor is invisible for one thing. I got that fixed a few years back, but don't recall how the heck I did it. Then, there's the high resolution thing. My monitor, by default, is 3840 by 2160. By changing display options I either get too tiny to read text, or scrambled desktop icons that need to be rearranged after opening the game. I finally gave up. Maybe some day I'll give it a go again. Meanwhile, I will hope that the devs can adapt the game, at some point, to the new, remastered edition of SOW.
Very good game played it years ago, liked it then like it even more now. highly recommend a person playing for the first time to do the tutorials. also the in game Help button is a good resource.
For a game from 2006, this is still a pretty good game. AI is weird a lot, but it's about what you can expect from this old of a game.
Worth a second look see. I did a sheets and giggles and installed the CMP 3.0 and lo and behold it works! It is a pleasant suprise it works as well as the old one. Alot of fun. Give it go it is worth the 9.99!!!!!!!!!!!! ---------------------------------------- Piss Poor game in steam, if you have no idea of what files you need to modify, change, edit this is not for you. If you out the box game that works after starting the game , this is not for you. If you want a game just to play because of the timeline , this is not for you. I had the old game and loved it . worked great on XP and Vista with very little to do on install. STAY AWAY from this if you want to save money, time, and effort.
My nostalgia goggles are very thick with this one, but it's one of the best Civil War wargames of all time. I think surpassed only by Sid Meier's games.
