Skyrim but interesting.
pretty good
Good RPG
Aye Arthur's back ya'll! Oh... How long did you leave him in the spin cycle for? How many centuries?! Well I guess its a wonder he can speak at all. Look at him. He's all sorts of ambivalent about atrocities and war crimes now. Oh he was always like that? Carry on then I guess. What we have in TG:tFoA is pretty solid (call it your classic 7/10) first person fantasy RPG. Dodge, parry, block, light attack, heavy attack, charge attack as you would expect. The combat here is well done and the game only occasionally pulls out the fast attack with a bad/obscure tell. So most of the time if your patient and methodical the game rewards that with triumph. If this genre has impressed you before I think this is a solid enough entry to be worth a try. Pros: Some fun writing (more humor than you would expect from the dark theme), solid combat, cool weapons, a meaty perk system, good spell variety. Cons: Late game unique gear had the dumbest bonus stipulations and it was constant most of what I ended act 1 with was what I ended the game wit, act 3 felt underwhelming, The act 2 difficulty spike was a bit jarring. Overall I had a good time with it. This may be too niche a comparison but on one end of the scale I have Skyrim with the best open world but weakest combat and on the other end I have Avowed with the best combat but the most anemic open world and somewhere in the middle lies Tainted Grail serving up a solid entry for both. So give it a shot if you have interest.
Good fun, very atmospheric
Unlike most of the reviews I’ve read here, I think the game isn’t just good - it’s absolutely brilliant and unique. A fantastic setting, great story, dark atmosphere that is TRULY dark but there is a room for genuinely funny humor, engagigng combat and a cast of characters that really sticks with you. Is it sometimes apparent that this isn't a AAA title and was made by a small studio? Of course, but that doesn't detract from the experience at all. Playability: 10/10. btw. FoA is really NOT like Skyrim (fortunately), it’s closer to the earlier Elder Scrolls titles and FromSoftware games.
