First episode of what has become SEEP's annual series (the fifth game is claimed as the final one but we'll see). It's not presented as "retro", as the graphics are in 16:9. Levels are short; each has a special trophy that is more or less difficult to reach or even find. Not every trophy can be collected immediately, as some require abilities to be purchased at a shop, in turn requiring the player to raise money through the levels. No death is useless, as money collected is always kept. I found the game to be extremely bland. The level design is fair but unmemorable, upgrades are few and nothing special, bosses are easier than the levels that precede them. As you need to grind some money for the upgrades, it feels padded out and longer than it needs to be, despite lasting only a few hours. It's got no terrible flaws, it just comes and goes without leaving a trace. The final reward is one of the lamest, worst-drawn cutscenes I've seen in years. It also has a strange mobile game feel, mostly due to that UI appearing when a level is finished, with an explosion of stars, icons to signal having finished the level and collected the trophy, and icons to go to the next level or the map. Yet, no trace of a release outside PC and consoles. As I proceed through SEEP's catalogue, I hope for following episodes to be better. (Edit: they are better)
Old school and full of charm.
7/10 A pretty decent seep entry. I don't understand why seep doesn't make more games like this. It seems like every time I pick up a seep game I never know if it's going to be well thought out or not. This game still has some issues like enemies take way too long to die for example. I'd prefer better enemy traps like in castlevania and megaman nes games than spongy enemies but there are some neat ideas in the levels here and it's mostly entertaining to play. Upgrades are a bit underwhelming and having to do some grinding after collecting all the gold parts at the end wasn't great (I just redid the first world) but it wasn't too bad. I do wish there was more gold as I beat the game without only about 50% of the upgrades. Still, a fun game with well thought out enemy placement. More like this, less like airborn justice which just feels rushed with terrible enemy placement. Mot of that game can be beat by just avoiding enemies and finding the best line to stay in. not how you wanna play a shmup.
Lembra Ghouls n Ghosts.
Buen juego estilo retro
All of the Sword & Bones games are fun and worth the price.
