This is a massive leap from the normal Swords and Sandals franchise .. Fast paced, non stop action.. It's a massive nod to the good old days and while it utilises a lot of new effects we didn't have back then, its doesn't go overboard to dazzle you with lights to keep you distracted from poor gameplay like some games tend to do these days. Instead.. you are right in the thick of it. Spartacus is like Prince of Persia had threesome with Rastan and Ghosts and goblins... it's just Win all round. Amazing work put into it.. only 2 hours in and I haven't event gotten that far so I can see a lot of playability in this already
The game is buggy, i found myself constantly falling into the floor. feels very unfinished. I have now gotten through the bulk of the game, it doesn't get better. don't buy this its not worth it.
you always get stuck in walls and die stuck there
An arcade style pixel platformer without the vania fuss. Having followed the development of this game it is relevant to consider the design intention behind it. It is at it's core an arcade coin-op platformer. Fast, frantic and challenging (very challenging in some areas). With that said there is a steady learning curve of which players must master both combat and player controls. Behind the abstraction of theme and combat hides a high stakes platformer, with some often challenging and frustrating leaps, which often take several death cycles to finally complete - consistent with the arcade difficulty it was clearly inspired by. I can imagine some players will get caught by surprise by the controls. The speed, and 'feel' is contrary to what one might find in modern indie platformers, but this factor is clearly part of the intended play style designed to unnerve players, keeping you from every getting too comfortable. In an era where many pixel platformer/ vanias are feeling quite samey, it's nice to play with something that some-what breaks out of conventions found in many platformers of this genre and art style.
It would be a really GOOD game if it weren't for the HUGE amount of bugs it has. The bridges make you fall into the map, with no other option than to restart, sometimes the character slows down for no apparent reason, if you spawn sometimes it doesn't allow you to jump etc etc. It makes it very difficult to enjoy the game having to restart and lose level progress.

Pozdrawiam SB
Great game!!
What a blast! Fast paced game in a retro style with cool main character Spartacus. You can run through the levels to get the best score/time or just enjoy the story and look for all the hidden secrets! There are some features you may remember from other games and I love the "super powah" one the most. Also the choice of destroying your own checkpoints for more score is tempting but... if you die you go from the start :D I followed WBS and his devlogs which I find very pleasant to watch and learn some new stuff while watching this gem being honed. Thanks for the retro trip back to my childhood.
Best hint right off the bat is jump before moving when you need to be precise. But yeah, I think it's pretty neat. It's fun to swing at guys and you move pretty quick. The game rewards you when you take your time and finish a level without dying instead of going in guns blazing. The best way to describe it to you is Imagine Zelda II adventure of link, but he moves like megaman, and it's a level based find the exit game.
