How long can you survive a post-apocalyptic world? A land overrun with an infected "zombie" population, where you compete with other survivors for limited resources. Will you team up with strangers and stay strong together? Or play as a lone wolf to avoid betrayal? This is DayZ – this is your story.

About
This is Your Story
DayZ is a hardcore, survival-focused multiplayer sandbox. Thrown into post-apocalyptic wastelands, you have a singular goal: survive. There are no missions or quests. Your story will be written by facing the unpredictable challenges created by the environment, the infected, and your interactions with other survivors. Every decision is yours. This is your ultimate survival story.
Immersion First
You will find no map markers, mini-maps, or navigational HUDs. From diseases and immunity to hunger and body temperature, information is conveyed through a minimal, toggleable HUD or, more importantly, through your own observations. To survive, you must physically search for every tool, ration, and piece of gear. Your survival depends on reading the environment, monitoring the state of your character, and looting strategically.
Two Terrains to Explore
DayZ is set in fictional countries crafted with a commitment to authenticity. The base game includes two distinct maps: legendary Chernarus and the mysterious woodlands of Livonia.
Chernarus, a sprawling 230 km² post-Soviet landscape, remains the quintessential DayZ experience. This community favorite is a hand-crafted terrain, inspired by real-world locations in North Bohemia of the Czech Republic.
Livonia offers a different challenge. This 168 km² map may seem more habitable with its lush, dense forests, but looks can be deceiving. Beneath its surface lies a deep secret: one that presents a fresh survival trial for even the most experienced players.
Survive, Survive, Survive
Everything is out to get you. Dangers lurk in plain sight and in the shadows, from aggressive infected who attack on sight to wolves and bears prowling the forests. But that's not all. You'll also have to tackle various diseases, learn to diagnose them by observing your condition, and find the necessary treatments.
Loot and gear are scarce, but crafting features can help fill the gap. Patch up your damaged clothes, make a fire to cook your rations, craft improvised tools, and scour the quiet yet deceptively dangerous villages and cities.
Friendly or Foe: You Decide
Keep in mind that up to 60 players are trying to survive along with you at any time. They can be an obstacle to clear, a helping hand to cherish, or anything in between. Emote and say “friendly!” over voice chat. Maybe you’ll find yourself staring down the barrel of a gun, tied up and gagged with a rag in your mouth. Or maybe you’ll encounter the helping hand of a friendly veteran and make a friend for life. The possibilities are endless in DayZ. Every encounter is a unique experience.
Beyond Survival
Build a base, cultivate a farm, hunt, fish, and place traps to protect your space. Or fix a car or truck and cruise through the wasteland with a friend, searching for high-tier loot at various dynamic events like train crashes, abandoned military convoys, PvP hotspots, points of interest, and more. You can even find full NBC suits to enter dangerous contaminated zones. The arsenal you can search for is vast, with over 50 types of firearms available, along with their unique magazines and ammo.
It won’t be easy. And no two lives will ever be the same.

Great game, BUT, its full of hackers or bugs that still get you killed out of the blue. In few hours of playing, dead in the middle of woods with great gear, hidden, running. Just plain hacker bullet from miles a way insta kills you. Its just no point in playing when your loot ownership is up to which hackers decides to play on your server. Then it happens over and over again. You just insantly die without any warnings in hidden places where no one is even around.
> grind for loot for 10 hours with my friend > meet a dad with his son with 2 hours of playtime > kill his dad accidentally > promise the kid that we'll give him better loot when his dad comes back as an apology > the kid got a gun but had no idea how to use it > figured it out > the kid shot us in the head absolute 10/10 game i love it
I have been playing video games my whole life. DayZ is one of those games that doesn't get you the first day. your prior experience in other games is practically worthless here. Its a grind. Ther is soo much to learn! I have nearly 3,000 hours logged and i still learn something new every day i play. Its soo much deeper and stays challenging. Please give DayZ the old college try with a friend. Learn how to navigate the launcher and find a modded server you can vibe with. you will thank me later
🏕️ While many similar games like Rust or PUBG have completely changed over the years, DayZ has remained quite true to its origins. Many would say that this is a bad thing - simple building and crafting systems, a ton of expected features missing that were implemented by modders a long time ago. But I would argue its what actually makes this game unique: crafting is not bloated, its simple and straightforward, focused on things that you actually need right now, and the building system that doesnt transform the map into a metropolis of castles and one unending raid between them 🗺️ A map that feels real and not procedurally generated (because it was heavily inspired by real life locations), with realistic distances, elevation, and biome changes (not your typical videogamy ice biome goes straight into a desert). Yes, gameplay on those maps will consist of 95% running and 5% action. But that 5% will be the most hand shaking action you have ever experienced, with kills and deaths that you will remember for a long time afterward. Also, while heavily situational, having the ability to experience a non-violent encounter is so refreshing, especially for someone used to extraction shooters with a near 💯% kill on sight probability ⚠️ Just be ready that this is a challenging game, and learning things without guides will be quite hard. Also be ready that there are basically no features to ease team play, and running for hours to meet your homie is the norm. But its all well worth it in the end if you overcome the learning curve
How is this game so popular? The desync is insane. The modded servers are all cancer. The vanilla servers are poorly run. I don't get it. The ARMA engine needs to be put to pasture...
How am i supposed to sit n play the game for hours thinking "i should find smth to eat/drink" in the game while i need smth to eat/drimk in real life but i cant stop playing cuz mfckers can kill anytime labrounjaims
Really fun game except for the part where someone shoots you from a tower 300 meters away, and then you just sit there and watch the death black screen, just to respawn right after.
[English] I definitely recommend this game. It’s an awesome zombie survival game. You can create fires to stay warm, cook food, loot buildings, and keep searching for even more loot. Sometimes it can be really frustrating because you might find absolutely nothing useful until you eventually die, lol. However, interacting with other players is always fun. It's always a 50/50 chance whether they're friendly or hostile! Looting can also be quite challenging, to be fair. Overall, it's a great game, especially when playing with friends and coordinating your actions as a team. One small criticism is that some of the animations, such as drying clothes, could be improved. In my opinion, they look a bit outdated, almost as if the game was last updated in 2003 or something. Despite that, it's still a very fun game and definitely worth playing.
If i were to be completely honest i would just say to watch youtubers play this game as you can watch fun stuff happen instead of just wandering around trying to find something to happen but hey i would still reccomend playing this if you like extremely difficult games
Начал играть в 2026 году, волну хайпа пропустил. В целом мне DayZ понравилась. Атмосферное выживание, напряжение и настоящие крысы, которые сидят в кустах.
