6.4/10 - The Next Generation of RPG Maker; Promising Early Access This is an Early Access game which shows some real promise. I'm excited to report that there are constant updates and transparency from the developer. I really appreciate this because it doesn't take long to see the progress of the game and where things are headed. The game has the format of an RPG maker; but the similarities end there! This game has some beautiful, custom maps, live battles and an innovative forge where you can create items. The story doesn't have the most thrilling plot; a boy in search of their video game console. A few things that didn't do it for me: 1) the monsters don't have the same artistic brilliance as the rest of the game. I thought it was appropriate that a monsters name was "feclet" or poop because the monsters were all quite ♥♥♥♥♥♥. 2) Its way too easy to die; and there isn't a save option. Even if you are 20 minutes into the game if you die you will be sent back to the very beginning. I can't keep playing further knowing I will lose my progress every time. Worth A few bucks! In my opinion, it's too early for the game to be played. I'm not sure this game will leave Early Access before 2020. It's in a pre-alpha state and any criticism lowers the morale of the dev and "delays" his progress (he stated as much in the forums). I'm hoping that the game progresses as the concept is interesting, but it is lacking in mechanics and, more than anything, content, at this point.

THE GOOD: The Weapon Combos are fun to combine and the graphics are epic. The character models are the best (all Hand Drawn), also the backgrounds. The music that is there is good although there's mainly over world themes. Sound effects are pretty good as well, and satisfying to hear. Enemies can potentially be bypassed, and there are no random battles, enemies are almost always on screen. With the addition of the first dungeon I can see that the developer has huge plans for this game. And I for one con not wait to see what is in store for us. THE BAD: Nothing. Overall I enjoyed Sword ‘n’ Board for the battle system, and weapon combination. The games concept is really epic, and brings back memories of playing video games in the 80’s & 90’s it's just feels a little empty right now, at least for me. But the developer has been adding a tons of content often, and streams every weekday on his channel. And very well may change in the near future. Looking forward to it. This has to be the best early access game I have seen in a long time. I'd give Sword ‘n’ Board a 9/10. I'm going to overall recommend the game.

Do not buy. Abandoned software. Not a complete game and will never be complete. Stay away and save your money!

Sword 'N Board really offers that retro feel that I crave from older games that I played when I was younger. A lot of devs try to pull this off, from downgraded graphics and silly music, but this dev does it right in all aspects. The graphics, for one, is what first had me drawn to this game - the artstyle is incredible and a lot goes into the detail. I have watched the developer stream on Twitch a great many times now, and it's a great experience to see the artwork come to life. The gameplay is so fun. As a beginner, you may feel as though the game may be too punishing with those first mistakes, because you start off with low stats. Once you get experienced with what you're doing it becomes so rewarding, and you will appreciate all the work you put in to leveling up your character. At this point, dungeons have started to be introduced in the game. From completing the first one, I cannot wait to play more. As a beginner dungeon it was fun to find all the puzzles hidden within, and offered puzzles that stumped me at first. It alone offered a good deal of content to explore. With it being the smallest dungeon, I know this game will continue to get bigger and better, and with it I will be investing even more time into it. Oh, and item combos? AWESOME. I have never had so much fun with item combos in a game before, lol. Currently, there are just two that I can unlock I believe, and I am just waiting on the edge of my seat to get my hands on more items I can use! Overall, great gameplay, great artstyle, great music, great combos. And most importantly, a great dev that I have come to respect and support 100%. Keep up the great work- I cannot wait for what's to come.

this game is simply amazing and additing! very reminiscent of the origional zelda (and kinda reminds me of the old school pokemon games for the gameboy color a little) the controlls are a little different but honestly, their location makes total sense, they just take some getting used to. this is completley solved by using a controller, i use a wired xbox 360 afterglow controller and the controlls are competely intuitive. so far ive logged about 30 hours gameplay between 2 different computers and accounts, and the game is relativley free of major bugs, and the bugs i do find get fixed very quickly, the dev really cares and is ever present! i can post a bug and get a reply usually within an hour about it. I would have never thought this game was made by 2 people(really 1, but the music guy gets credit, cause the music is very catchy) the animations and drawings are very good and the dev is very talented. i could never do anything close to this, but then again, i have little artistic talent. Ill stick to the cubes i drew in middle school art class. I like the hidden areas, i most the time i spend on the game now is looking for hidden areas and chests. the item combinations are cool, its nice to kinda get "super powers" ill call them. something that is completely origional, at least i havent seen it anywhere. there really isnt anything i dont like about the game as when i find something that doesnt fit the developer fixes it or adjusts it promptly. if youre thinking about getting the game, get it. you wont regret it. its not that expensive, and its really nice to have direct contact with the dev to report bugs. (you might get in trouble at work, as the game is seriously addicting) i have 18 hours alone on my work computer and have only had the game 5 days...

This "game" got everything: bad collisions, sluggish controls, bad graphicd with enemies you cannot see behind props, boring music.. played it a little and uninstalled it. Also the menus are horrible.
