It's cheap, it's on sale currently, and it's still not worth it. This game has a great concept. I just wish a better developer had come up with it. Considering it's out of Early access, you would expect more, but this is "literally unplayable" with some of the bugs right now. Graphics: If you played Rimworld, Prison Architect, or any similar game, you know what you're getting. I think it works for this game though. Gameplay: The concept of this game is awesome. It reminds me of Stronghold: Crusaders meets tower defense's long lost cousin. I love what they were going for and that's why I got this game. It's fun to play. No regrets on that front at all. Bugs: This is where it falls apart. The level of game breaking bugs in this game has destroyed studios before and brought them to bankruptcy. For example, lag aside, one of the things that happens is if you build something, materials arrive on a cart... except sometimes, the carts get blocked. You can't fix that, there's just a stuck empty cart forever. I think it's related to trying to sell goods, but either way, it broke my save since I couldn't build anything anymore. Tutorials: Picture most RTS game. Command and Conquer is the example I'm going with here. You always have a Step 1: build this. And tutorials will cover that. Step 2: Build that, and so on. The entire tutorial for this game stops at Deploy your HVC and build a power plant. Weapons, Army, anything beyond that... good luck. I realize tutorials can be a double edge sword, but some basic instructions would go a long way here. I want this game to do good. I really do. But it's not at the point I'd even recommend paying the few dollars it costs. I wish this game was good. I so want it to be that way...

Very bare bones and only one mode to play it in. There is only one unit, fighters, no archers or mages. There is only endless mode, meaning this game has no end and nothing to work towards. I have no idea how this game left early access, it has very little in it.
A very promising early access game that combines two of my most favourite genres - builders and tower defense, Surviving Medieval not only will have you build a logistically-sound town from the ground up, ala Prison Architect-style; you'll also need to recruit enough troops to defend it from barbarian hordes who will invade your town every time a turn ends - don't worry, the game will give you a heads-up! That being said, the learning curve can be on the higher end, especially during your first few runs, and you'll definitely fail miserably again and again as you learn how to best build your town and to defend it against the increasingly difficult enemies.
Watch me play!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oMkhxnqJZw - My first run where I had to learn about a lot of stuff.
Pros
+ Intriguing combination of genres and they work incredibly well together too! + Huge map for you to build on + Increasingly difficult enemies. Comes in several types. + Simple building mechanics + Very nice art/graphics! + Enemy AI is clever. It'll find the weakest point and try to gain entry to your king that way.
Cons/Feedback
- Maybe a more detailed tutorial in the future, unless you're aiming for a more "no hands-holding" route which in that case, the game's great as it is. - I'm not sure why we couldn't reuse the weapons that can technically be "dropped" from fallen soldiers. Maybe that could be made a thing in the game? I can't send my warriors to rest to regain health either because whenever I "remove" a warrior, his weapon box disappeared for some reason. - Some language stuff - typos, grammatical errors, etc. - Been having some massive frame rate issues, even at a much lower res, and getting constant audio stutters. I also have a laptop that's way above the minimum requirements. - More soldier variety please? It would be nice to have archers who can shoot over walls, for instance. - Buttons sometimes aren't responsive. - I don't get my coins back if I destroy the roads I've placed but not yet built? - I lose all my grain if I un-zoned my granary just so I can expand it. Not sure if this is an intentional part of the gameplay? - Currently, it's not possible for a 3x4 room to be built in a 4x3 way. This should be made possible IMHO. - Zoning is very squarish... odd-shaped zoning (L-shape for instance) is not possible here. - Instead of turns, I'd rather if coins are earned over time. - An arrow showing where the enemy is attacking from would be great during an attack. Helps the player to reassign troops accordingly. - AI could use a revamp? I have a ton of grain, lots of space on the dining tables, and a bunch of cooks, but for some reason, they aren't working fast enough. Keeps idling.
Tips
* Food is very important here, so make sure to set up lots of farms and a large enough granary. Once that's set up, you'll want a mine or two and start producing weapons. Science points aren't as important tbh, and you can leave that for later. * Buildings that are needed for one another to work should be placed close together to save on all those "walking time" * You can actually build castle-like walls around your town to protect it and have only a single opening so as to funnel all the enemies through there... though, I'm not sure if that's a feasible strategy early game. You can plan for it though! More to come! :)
Overall
If you love building and designing towns PLUS defending it from periodically-attacking enemies, then Surviving Medieval is definitely a game that's developed for you! The game has a bit of a learning curve, probably because its tutorial doesn't really hold you hand throughout and although most of the info you need is already there in the game, you'll still need to find and understand them. That is not to say that game is perfect as it is - Surviving Medieval is an early access game, after all! It still has plenty of room to grow and it needs to grow, if it is going to be as much of a breakout hit as other popular indie builders, like Prison Architect. It is a cool concept but not worth the money. I bought it on sale for a dollar and it's still not worth it. 1) The tutorial is bad, I didn't even understand what it was asking me to do at first. 2) The enemies come to fast for you to deal with. On the third wave some huge barbarian comes and absolutely destroys whatever men you have. 3) The building is atrocious. You can't make rooms in an L shape because if you do you can't set the room to operate as anything. For example, I tried to build a L shaped granary but you can't drag the "set room" thing through the whole building because it sees that you're trying to build a room outside of the wall. But you also can't connect two rooms, I tried to just build two granaries one in the long part of the L and one in the small outcrop of the L. But it wouldn't allow that because there HAS to be a wall on all 4 sides, and doesn't recognize the other granary being there. 4) You can't delete buildings or plans unless you click each and every tile, no click and drag. 5) Sometimes the minimum size it says a room must be is wrong, so you have to renovate it, which wouldn't be a problem if you didn't have to delete every tile one by one and the workers didn't take soooo long building everything.
If you like tower defense games, you'll like this game. The game lets your build your base and defend it from the hordes of barbarians that will attack you every few rounds. In the meanwhile you'll take care of your base economy and your citizens satisfaction. Basicly, you'll build your kingdom while defending it from the endless barbarians. Even then, this game has a learning curve to understand the best way to survive, it can be challenging sometimes. If the developer keeps updating it like this, it can become a fun casual game to play! Be sure to give it a try!

A small, yet interesting game. Something like Prison Architect, but medeival. Looks very cute tho ! Runs pretty smoothly, no crashes, which is rare nowadays. Worth playing a couple of hours :)
Cool strategy game. Playing since first beta, dev listening to community's feedback and constantly adding new features. Definitely worth the money!
сырая, похоже детская поделка на римворлд нет обучения, нихрена непонятно че ваще делать
This game is a very good game. i have tried many games like this but it has a great start as mentioned before No crashes i cannot find much bugs except for the fact they die almost instant after they cannot sleep for 1 day. so once you manage that its becoming a bit more stable but i have to say i had 10 soldiers against 6 barbarians and they killed me to the ground i wonder how i can beat that wave... well that keeps me playing pros : advanced and custom you make the challenge and story. looks good its not a game with terrible graphics this one is a good one! the mechanics for movemen needs improving but it works very well cons: no tutorial you have to learn it the hard way. it goes way to fast it seems after just day 5 the enemy becomes stronger way faster. you have to be producing weapons by then or u lose. the positioning of your warriors is not that good... its terrible. once i place a line they go to it once i place another one it every warrior moves randomly and gaps appear everywhere breaking the line of defense. here are some tips to the dev: there are not much ways to defend then warriors and extremely expensive balista as the spikepit or pitfall or what you wanna call it is useless. it killed 1 of the 8 walked over it (9x9) my suggestion would be add archer towers and archers. that way you can use walls and such more to protect ya. make those pit traps work better. when i make a 9x9 grid and they walk over it only 1 is killed. in total for the 9 expensive traps. the balista is locked until unlock and costs a enormous amount of gold. mabe a bit to much? but to be short: i really recommend this game its worth every penny you put into it and it has some great potential! Keep it up dev!
