I really, REALLY wanted to like this game. In theory, it has everything I like. Post-apocalypse setting, isometric view, team-building to some degree, base-building, the works. But i genuinly can NOT reccomend anyone this game as it is right now. While I do not own hardware to run the latest in gaming on Ultra-settings, I am able to run Cyberpunk2077 decently smooth on mid-high in 1080p. And this game amnages, at its lowest settings, to keep stuttering, lagging, call it whatever you want. The breaking point that lead me to writing this review now is the game softlocking a quest since it bugged out as I talked to the quest-related NPC, the dialouge-window popping up for a fraction of a second and then - nothing. It's not teh first time either that some NPCs just straight up do not spawn in and require a reload and a runback (through aformentioned stuttering landscapes). In theory: great concept Practically: Go and get Wastelander 2 or 3. it has no base-building, but it is way more playable.
Survive the mess and give this pile of garbage a pass. Crashes constantly, brings down your machine, needs a LOT of work to be playable. I regret that I can no longer get a refund.
keeps crashing
I don't normally bother with reviews but thought this deserved one. I thoroughly enjoyed this game. I do love squad management and survival in post apocalyptic settings. My favourite genre by far. An interesting mix of squad based real-time exploration and a separate base management mode. Think dead state but with real time pause based combat instead of turn based. Or similarities with the systems in this war of mine. You do your base management, research, food, health, production, farming etc then head out into the world to explore, build relationships with factions, scavenge, and survive as you explore the story. Story isnt particularly complicated but serves its purpose. The game is not without its faults but I would consider them quirks, easily overlooked in what was clearly a complex and well loved project. The maps are gorgeous and huge. Truly fascinating to explore. I never experienced any crashes. I'd recommend playing it on its hardest difficulty. I suspect it was balanced with that setting in mind. If you like this genre, I'd recommend giving this a look.
The game Surviving the Fall is, in my opinion, one of the few games that truly gave me a lot compared to many others I’ve been looking for. When it comes to survival, story, crafting, or combat itself, everything has its place. However, I honestly don’t understand why this game has such low ratings, because I don’t think it deserves them. Yes, the game has its flaws. For example, the first major issue is the number of bugs—there are a lot of them, and many of them could have been avoided if the game had continued to be developed and polished. The second thing that significantly affects the gameplay is poor optimization. World loading, stuttering, and overall performance show that the game does not fully utilize the potential of the system it runs on. Despite all this, these issues can be overlooked, because I believe the game has great potential and I genuinely enjoyed it, both in terms of story and overall experience. As for bugs and major issues, they can often be resolved simply by saving and reloading the game—they usually disappear. I think the game is worth the money. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to play a survival, building, and adventure game with a good story and plenty of missions. This is especially impressive considering that the game’s development is limited and likely won’t continue, which is, in my opinion, a real shame. I understand that many development studios operate with limited budgets and cannot continue supporting their projects. However, I believe that if the developers returned to the game and decided to improve it further, it would be very worthwhile. Personally, the biggest issue for me was optimization—not the bugs, but the performance, which is really quite poor. Overall, I can say that the game left a very positive impression on me. I’m used to bugs, but poor optimization in the 21st century is something I find much harder to accept.
Just... boring. Not for me.
I really want to enjoy the game, and when it works, I do enjoy it. A lot. However, when it crashes 10x in an hour or two dozen times since purchase, it makes it really really hard to keep playing.
Survive the Fall is an ambitious post-apocalyptic survival and strategy hybrid developed by Angry Bulls Studio and published by Toplitz Productions. Set in a world devastated by a catastrophic meteor strike, the game imagines humanity struggling to rebuild civilization after the collapse of society. The impact wiped out a large portion of the population and released a strange contaminating force known as “Stasis,” which transformed parts of the environment and introduced new threats to the remnants of humanity. Against this backdrop, players take control of a group of survivors trying to carve out a future in a hostile and unpredictable wilderness. Rather than focusing solely on a single protagonist, the game emphasizes cooperation and community building, presenting survival as a collective effort where every character’s skills and decisions matter. The game’s structure revolves around a dual gameplay loop that blends open-world exploration with settlement management. Players regularly leave their base to explore the surrounding regions in small squads of survivors, scavenging resources, discovering abandoned locations, and confronting enemies that roam the wilderness. These expeditions are played from an isometric perspective and often involve managing a trio of characters with distinct abilities, allowing players to switch between them or assign tasks individually. This flexible system encourages tactical thinking: one survivor might gather supplies while another scouts ahead or prepares for combat. The ability to split the group to complete multiple tasks simultaneously adds an element of strategic multitasking that becomes increasingly important as expeditions grow more dangerous. Combat and stealth play significant roles during exploration. Encounters with hostile factions, bandits, and mutated enemies require careful positioning and smart use of abilities. The game features real-time combat that can be paused to issue commands, allowing players to coordinate attacks or reposition their squad when situations become chaotic. Stealth mechanics allow survivors to hide in vegetation or behind cover to avoid detection or quietly eliminate threats before they escalate into larger battles. This tactical layer gives exploration a tense and methodical rhythm, where rushing into danger can quickly lead to disaster. When players return from their expeditions, the focus shifts to the settlement itself. Building and managing the base forms the other half of the gameplay experience. Survivors must construct buildings, gather food, research new technologies, and maintain morale within the community. With dozens of possible structures to construct—including workshops, farms, storage facilities, and medical stations—the settlement gradually evolves from a fragile refuge into a functioning outpost of civilization. Assigning tasks based on each survivor’s strengths becomes essential, as some characters excel at crafting, medicine, or resource gathering. This management layer gives the game a colony-simulation feel and reinforces the theme that rebuilding society requires teamwork and careful planning. The world itself is one of the game’s strongest elements. Instead of portraying the apocalypse as a completely barren wasteland, Survive the Fall depicts a planet that nature is slowly reclaiming. Many environments feature dense forests, overgrown ruins, and landscapes frozen in a perpetual autumn created by the aftermath of the meteor strike. This aesthetic gives the world a haunting beauty and a strong sense of atmosphere. Exploring abandoned towns, research facilities, and hidden outposts provides glimpses into the final days of the old world while also rewarding players with valuable resources and lore fragments that expand the setting. Another notable aspect of the game is the presence of multiple factions and narrative choices. As the player interacts with other survivor groups scattered across the world, alliances and rivalries begin to shape the broader story. Decisions made during quests can influence relationships with these factions and ultimately affect how the narrative unfolds. While the story focuses on rebuilding civilization rather than a personal hero’s journey, it still presents moments of moral ambiguity where players must weigh survival against compassion or loyalty. These choices give the experience a sense of consequence, even if the narrative itself sometimes struggles to develop its characters in depth. Despite its strong ideas and ambitious design, Survive the Fall is not without its flaws. Some players and critics have noted technical issues such as occasional bugs, camera awkwardness, or performance hiccups that can disrupt gameplay. The user interface can also feel cluttered at times, particularly when managing resources or issuing commands to multiple characters simultaneously. In addition, while the overall premise is intriguing, the storytelling and dialogue sometimes lack the emotional impact needed to fully engage players with the characters’ struggles. These issues occasionally make the game feel rough around the edges, especially given the complexity of the systems it tries to combine. Even with these shortcomings, Survive the Fall remains an intriguing entry in the survival-strategy genre. Its blend of squad-based exploration, tactical combat, and settlement management offers a layered gameplay experience that stands apart from more traditional survival games. The constant tension between venturing into the dangerous wilderness for supplies and maintaining a thriving community back at base creates a satisfying rhythm that keeps players invested in the long term. For fans of survival strategy titles that reward careful planning and resource management, the game provides a challenging and atmospheric journey through a world struggling to recover from catastrophe. In the end, Survive the Fall is a bold attempt to combine several genres—action RPG, survival simulation, and colony management—into a single cohesive experience. While its technical imperfections and somewhat uneven storytelling prevent it from reaching its full potential, the game’s strong atmosphere, strategic depth, and engaging exploration systems make it a worthwhile experience for players who enjoy complex survival adventures. It may not redefine the genre, but it offers a compelling and immersive look at what it might take to rebuild civilization after the end of the world. Rating: 8/10
I'm sorry to leave a bad review, but it really did get boring after just a couple hours. It just has no depth, guns and upgrades are irrelevant when you can just win ever battle with crowbar. ZzzzZZzz...
